Xenoblade announced for New 3DS

NEW NINTENDO 3DS - way more powerful than the old one. Trust Nintendo, an amazing looking game like this won't run on the old 3ds :^)

I lol'd.

Dunno why people are surprised though. That's how it looked on the Wii. It wasn't going to look better than the Wii version. A lot of people haven't played Xenoblade I guess.

As long as it looks and plays somewhat identical to the Wii version I am buying this. I haven't played the game on Wii so I am not sure if this is what it's suppose to look like.

Then again it is early and games do improve via dev time. Remember Sin & Punishment 2?

Eugh, Xenoblade deserves better. It can look pretty amazing in high resolution. I don't understand why there's no Wii U remaster in anticipation of X.

At least more people will get to play it, I guess.

This drives me nuts. There is no Wii U remaster because the Wii U can play the Wii version. Very few people would buy a Wii U because of a remaster of Xenoblade, especially when Dolphin can emulate it better. More people would buy a piece of hardware for a portable version.

If this handheld as about as much RAM as a PS3 then it shouldn't look like that. In fact they should be able to add some better features to this port. Lol

Presenting your thoughts based on the pillar of the false dilemma logical fallacy is not the strongest way to go about it.

This thread is so grating.

I don't care how you view my thoughts. It's not a fallacy because I'm not even discussing this anymore. I've bowed out.

Have fun.

If there is one game that will look INSANELY AMAZING in 3d its Xenoblade. Im going to so buy this (if, god willing, NOA brings it over PLEEEEASE).

I never finished the original, but now im glad, since I will visit this world in glorious 3d baby!

The PS3 only has 256MB RAM? Time flies... Going by original DS specs, half the RAM will be used by the OS. Also the VRAM is only 4MB more than the 3DS.

But I feel this in part might be a case of forgetting how small most of the textures in Xenoblade really are and how they look like ass (or just vanish) when you zoom in.

whats going on with the grass and his face.

The New 3DS that's what.

I'm questioning how much you remember of the game myself, it might have had some bad faces but never that bad.

It's like Shulk woke up and decided to smear on some extra vaseline for that added bit of protection against the Mechon.

Also, near all video footage of the 3DS never looks as good as it does on its native screen. Games I've thought looked rough in previews turned out to look good (Link Between Worlds, for example), etc.

Still very confused as to the direction of the new handheld and what else Nintendo has in store.

I just don't know.
It looked like it ran like crap. Slow and just bad looking.

Also the only reason the battle system was decent was because the Control stick was in the left hand and the control pad was in the right hand on the Wii, so you could scroll through to the Art you want as you position yourself in a favorable position for that art.

This just seems like it will be clunky (no more than playing the original with a CCP I suppose), but Xenoblade is in my top five RPGs ever so sign me up.

I am getting absolutely sick of hearing this.

Where i live right now, Melbourne Australia. I walked into an EB games a few weeks ago and was outright told that there is not a single copy of Xenoblade Wii in the entire state of Victoria.

The last time i saw a copy of Xenoblade Wii in front of me was when i was in Sydney in an area called Campbelltown (A place nearly an hour drive from Sydney itself) over one year ago and it was in a shop that specialized in selling rare games and older consoles.

Not everyone can walk into a store and find Xenoblade Wii just sitting there to get. The only reason i even have it was because i bought it overseas.

Going from playing this on my WiiU to Dolphin was such a drastic leap. Everything scales up so well. I dont know why they are bothering with this. Shoulve gave it the wind waker treatment.

Yepp the game looks great on Dolphin

I'm using HD Texture Pack with Xbox 360 controller icons.

2560x1440, 4x native internal resolution and 8xAA

Well PS3 has more VRAM, but in terms of system RAM it's the same size.

? With the sole (but notable) exception of the lowered frame rate of the enemy battles it looks exactly the same.

There's a clear smudge to the New 3DS version in addition to the lower framerate. Considering Xenoblade Wii already wasn't the crispest looking game around, the New 3DS version manages to one up an already blurry game and adds on to it with a lowered resolution.

The whole thing was really ugly though, and it was NOT the YT stream's fault. This is not the treatment Xenoblade deserves.

The footage from the actual Nintendo Direct looked pretty good I thought. I even found it better looking than the footage found online for the original release (but in no way am I saying it ever looked bad, but some would argue...)
I haven't played Xenoblade yet, but from what I heard about it, saltiness is not the reaction it deserves.

I don't give a fuck about Smash Bros. I bought the system for jrpgs and of course the one big jrpg I'd love to play on the go dosen't work on the system.
You bought your 3DS before you ever knew about the Xenoblade release or the New 3DS.

This entire argument is based around people's expectations of how long systems should last before becoming obsolete.

Basically, either you're happy with this, or you're not. And that'll never change. I'll keep on thinking that the New 3DS is a great thing, and you'll keep on thinking that it's a bad thing.

I had already left this thread behind me because it's quite obviously a discussion that isn't going anywhere, but I came back because you addressed me personally. You can argue all you want, but that won't change the fact that the New 3DS is a thing that's going to be released soon. Hopefully you guys will come to terms with that, either by deciding to buy it or to ignore it.

Fair enough.

Holy shit, can't believe they're making this an exclusive to the newer model. What a slap in the face. Why the hell would I want to buy the same console that I already have? That's really a bullshit move, Nintendo.

Also I thought Xenoblade wasn't that great, but still! This could happen with a game I'm actually interested in.

One of my top 3 games from last gen, and frankly I'm not excited. The game deserves better than this hardware. I'd be psyched if this were on a successor system similar to PSV in power. Dolphin has spoiled me.

It's pretty crazy that it requires the new system.

I wonder if normal 3DS games with poor framerates will run better by default, or if this is some special mode that only games made for New 3DS will be able to use.

I actually can't think of any 3DS games I own which have a poor framerate... but there must be some.

People are making the case as a business decision. It is most definitely not smarter to remaster than to make it available as a portable title. I'm sorry but you and the 10,000 other people that want to play Xenoblade and can't find it don't justify making a remaster for the Wii U. It's not that big of a game.

Did they say if Monolith Soft is internally developing this, or someone else?

Sorry if I missed this, but I'm trying to fake like I'm working and it's a fast thread.

You bought your 3DS before you ever knew about the Xenoblade release or the New 3DS.
And? I bought it with the expectation that it would be good for the reminder of the 3ds's life. If I did know about them I sure as hell wouldn't have bought a 3DS. I'm not happy with the system as is and now I have the shitty version of the system. It's not even about a revision. I expected a 3ds XL lite or sometime, but I sure didn't expect it to lock out games.

That appearing and disappearing grass. Barf.

Its just the limitations of Sprites, but yeah not good.

at the begining the camera rotation is too extreme to show them probabaly, and at the end, I am guessing it is the close up fade out of the sprites kicking in, or the downward camera angle limit has kicked in on them.

might as well just turn them off in that cutscene. I wonder what this looks like in the Wii version

With the expectation that it would continue to play 3DS games. Shocking.

Yeah, all those existing 3DS games will suddenly cease to work once the New 3DS comes out.

It was always blurry. And of course the Wii version looks better in general. But not great. The game looks good when you're zoomed out and looking at the landscape.

Ya... I think I'll stick with Dolphin on this one. Its pretty cool that they actually got it running on 3DS though. Who would have thought after all that localization shit a couple years ago the Xenoblade series would be getting such a push.

So let me get this straight

A game that has a spiritual successor on the way for Nintendo's main console and they think it's a good idea to remake (demake?) the original and stick it on a new revision of a handheld they are releasing as an exclusive as opposed to the actual console with the actual spiritual successor on it's way is a good idea. Why did some people dislike the PSP again, wasn't it for similar reason (Shoe horning console games into a handheld)?

So basically releasing said demake to a install base of exactly 0 (Or one that will be significantly smaller than the WiiU's) is smarter than releasing the remake that everyone who's played the game has been clamoring for since the sequel was announced on a console where the sequel will come out.

Also it's Nintendo's own fault the Wii version is so rare and difficult to find for some people. Forcing people to have to settle for what amounts to a $200+ downgraded version of it is not my idea of appeasing or appealing to the fans in anyway.

More like too many people have played Xenoblade on Dolphin and forgot what it originally looked like.

Yeah, all those existing 3DS games will suddenly cease to work once the New 3DS comes out.

Even if you're okay with what Nintendo is doing, are you really incapable of understanding why people would be upset? Also "The New 3DS" is a revision. A revision!

What it says to me is that they didn't want to bother taking the time/money to invest into a new console. So instead they're trying to force people into double-dipping on the same old thing.

I don't even know what this means, but whatever. Eat up whatever Nintendo feeds you. I don't care.

Yeah, all those existing 3DS games will suddenly cease to work once the New 3DS comes out.
Um what about future titles? Gee it's so great that I may have to miss out on 3ds games or certain features just because I don't have the right 3ds. Sure is a nice feeling for a console owner to have.

I'm not unaware of this?

With the expectation that it would continue to play 3DS games. Shocking.

Based purely on your reaction, you certainly seemed to be.

DS -> DSi is the best example anyone could provide for this sort of thing. Your 3DS games will continue to work on your 3DS; as will future 3DS games. However, 'New 3DS' games will only work on a 'New 3DS'. Whether it happens to be a game you actually like or not is beyond irrelevant.
