Xenoblade Chronicles X - Review Thread

Umm isnt that kinda bad? As it force some websites to affiliate with metacritic? And different weight score too? Does that mean like some big website like ign can get bigger score vs like jim sterling review?

Yeah I don't need MC telling me which reviewers to trust more.

I just learned today that this game has a bestiary. Awesome.

Yes, Metacritic is rubbish and it's stupid it has been used as the deciding factor in studios receiving bonus pay.

If I get this digitally on the Eshop will I be able to play at midnight? (Never bought an Eshop game)

If you're in the US, looks like it.

If you're in Europe/AUS/NZ, tough shit, you'll probably be able to start the download at midnight if you're lucky.

Fuck sake.

Is this the part of the review thread where we act like Metacritic is the devil for some weighing that doesn't really move the average much in the first place?

Depends on whether the Metacritic Score is higher or lower than fans want--if it's higher then the system is fine, but if it's lower the entire system is broken and we should take the street to pillage.

EDIT: It's at 34 reviews for an average of 84--and a lot of the highest scores tend to be from Nintendo Enthusiast sites...

Jeez you guys are looking to start something lol.

Well I mean how much does it move the average? I dunno. Is anyone checking? Or is it common knowledge and I'm just in the dark? Certainly you can see why people would be skeptical at MC weighing some reviews over others if they don't know the details.

edit:wow I can't even type in that particular website's name, let alone a url. That's some advanced banning. I was going to make an incredibly clever pun. Now the world will never know :'(

I was gonna ask about this. Are there viewable 3D models of monsters, Skells, and important characters as well?

How comprehensive?

e: also is this really the only XBX thread? Lol woke up and there was barely a page's worth of new posts. Where's the hype, Nintendo-GAF? I expected more!

Monsters and bosses and basically anything you fight shows up in the beastiary. It counts how many times you've killed one, and how many times you've been killed. For Overeds, it counts how many times other players have beaten them vs. been killed by them. It shows where you can find each creature, what time of day, and what they drop (but you need to have collected it first for this information to be viewable). You can remove the UI to view just the model and rotate (horizontally, but not vertically), but you can't zoom in.

Player character and Skell models can be viewed in the stats screens.

Thank you, Streets! This week has already been too long. I'm playing more Xenoblade and as much as I love it, I'm really looking forward to better camera control, more customization, and even prettier vistas.

Edit: Neiteio your face......

Oh cool, I love seeing the kill counts. It's incredibly insignificant information, but it's just something fun to have. Really applies to most stats and whatever, like total kills, most damage done on one hit, total damage done etc etc

Does XBX happen to have anything like this?

Nintendo Enthusiast is a very harsh site.

They score games 7.7 points lower than the average review site.

I think neurosisxeno meant Nintendo enthusiast sites in general (Nintendo-centric ones), not literally Nintendo Enthusiast.

e: also it looks like they give higher than average scores to almost all big Nintendo games, sounds like they're harsh only towards indies and such

Seeing beauty in the light of clearly defined flaws is either the sign of a healthy relationship or the first step on the path to a really bad one. Telling the difference takes time and, coincidentally, that's the only requirement Xenoblade Chronicles X demands from the player. You're not going to get it all at once, and that has to be OK. Barring the impulsive and impatient from a super fun club isn't necessarily a negative, or at least not if it comes at the cost of a game the size and scale of Xenoblade Chronicles X. In what it aims to do and what it actually accomplishes, Xenoblade Chronicles X stands as tall as any of its closest peers.

I dunno,

I kind of think a Eurogamer Essential is the one piece of gaming media that I give some credit to.

So congrats on that Xenoblade X

If you're non-US with a slow internet, physical (no preload for non-US people). If you're in the US or in Europe/NZ/AUS with a fast internet, digital.
If you're like me and don't wanna deal with external storage, 10 GB isn't impossible to free up if you have games you don't play often and can re-download later so physical is a decent option.

Seriously if the next Nintendo console doesn't have at least 500 GB.....

can't decide digital or physical haaaaaaaalp

Do you want to have this on your shelf?

Are there enough improvements for the load times in the digital version to warrant buying it over the physical version (with data packs installed)?

I could easily be misremembering, but I thought I heard that installing all of the data packs makes the physical version identical to the digital version. I'm pretty certain installing all the data packs at least makes the physical version incredibly close to the digital version.

Is there any info on how bad the loading times are on physical without data packs? I have like 500MB left on my Wii U and I'm not buying an external drive for one game.

Unless the online elements locks the save files to the system, you should be able to save/back-up your file and transfer to another system. I know some games on the Wii wouldn't let you transfer save files if they had an online element (like The Last Story iirc). Dunno if same thing applies on the Wii U.

You cannot in any way shape or form move save files off of a Wii U.
