Xenoblade Chronicles X - Review Thread

I was thinking when watching the Quicklook, it seems like they negated the possibility for regular unintentional glitches and bugs by making it intentionally janky and budget in certain areas.

Aside from the gigantic world thats far more diverse than in any other current open world game (and because of that offers many possibilities of bugs), hundreds of quest and thousands of weapons/gears combinations even alone the transformation of the mechs to "cars" or "planes" and the vertically of the world could result in hundreds of possible glitches and bugs.

But X is completely bug free. Unlike other recent open world games where you encounter glitches and bugs every two minutes.

Lol this is either dumb or just plain ignorant. This game doesn't even have collision detection for moving objects

It may be silly but it's very clearly not unintended. Not a bug.

Despite that, it's entirely possible it's not something a reviewer would necissilarly encounter. Keep in mind derrick didn't say there aren't any bugs, just that he didn't encounter any

I wasnt saying no collision detection was a bug, but i think its safe to assume a game without collision detection is going to have less glitches and bugs etc

If it didn't have collision detection you'd fall through terrain, wouldn't swim in water and you couldn't pick up items or be detected by enemies etc. Some objects are obviously not checked against (eg. shrubbery and moving vehicles) but that's not equal to "no collision detection", generally.

Its physics implementation is simpler than some other open-world games but it can get away with it since it's not an action game. This is one of the ways I think Zelda will be more impressive as an open-world Wii U game. (But I still think X will remain the King/Queen of scale and geometry).

Yeah, while having a more or less bug-free experience is fantastic, I think XBX is hardly comparable to most open-world games. It seems to be far less dynamic.

I hate when npcs and vehicles stand in your way in RPG's and open-world games.
It sure looks weird but once I get really into the game I just want to go where I want without bumping into tons of useless objects.
Like in Monster Hunter, you either want to go to the next quest or to your house and not get stuck everywhere by Aptonoth carriages.

I'd rather walk through things than get totally stuck on them like in other recent open world games. I literally couldn't believe it when I saw that there were NPCs in Witcher and Dragon Age that couldn't be moved out of the way. Just NPC walls.

But we'll see how it goes in action.

Age of Conan is the first game that comes to mind where players and collision detection became the worst fucking thing ever......and I also abused it against other players haha.

Stood in the entrance to a questing zone in one of the main cities for 6 hours with a mammoth.....people couldn't get into the city or move onto while questing for those 6 hours........NPC's while not as bad....can piss me off. Fallout 4's companions come to mind where I just want my companion to move the hell out of my way so I can keep playing.

It's more expedient for movement and considering the size of the world, I'm actually happy about it

And nobody's trying to combat this opinion

Monolithsoft was really ambitious with this game but they also seemed to know when to reign themselves in which can often be the difficult part. Some pragmatic decisions were made to keep the performance (and budget) at an acceptable level.

So he hates it? Or is the game just too big for a review that is supposed to come out soon? Doesn't sound too hot either way (if it's the latter he will probably have to rush through it).

Dunno about hate, but he didn't sound too happy with it on the podcast. Though he wasn't very far in the game then

There is detection collision, otherwise we would be able to go through walls and ennemies but no you can't. They just removed it for some objects that move in the city. Yeah, it's weird the first time you see it but in the end, streamers weren't bothered by it at all. It's just a convenient thing, imo.

Yup, Digital Foundry understood and some other reviewers too.

This person must have been terrible to watch live lol.
I skipped to 1 hour 20 minutes into the archived stream and they still haven't left the first area where you're discovered. I'm not sure when in the 4.5 hour stream they actually left.

EDIT: apologies if it's anyone here :P

This is definitely already one of those games where watching other people play is making me crazy, not because I can't play, but because they're constantly ignoring the prompts to use certain abilities, or failing to get close enough to melee, or missing the soul voice QTEs.

I read it as he wants to explore the world but needs to complete the story in order to give a review, but your interpretation works also.

Yeah, he seemed a bit annoyed by some aspects of the game. Also, a game this big and complex must be hell for reviewers with a deadline.

If you're not a fan of the genre and you can't play this massive game at your own pace because of a deadline it can't be too much fun.

Wondering if its worth it to get a new Wii u Even if only to play this and the two zeldas coming next year with NX so "near"

lmao who cares about these miniscule technical aspects like collision detection? it is't a core mechanic that takes away from gameplay. like ugh i hate world of warcraft / final fantasy xiv, the collision detection ruins it for me! its totally normal for a game like this

Actually, there is collision detection for moving object, I mean NPC react when you go through them at least :p Tough in some rare case, you are the one reacting... But I won't say more

Oooh, nice. My game just got shipped (including a copy of Paper Jam). Amazon usually ships games a day before release for me and they arrive on time so hopefully my Xenoblade will arrive a day early.

What purpose does the gamepad serve for this? like can you put some of the mess that is the UI on to the touchscreen? I still need to get a pro controller so I can comfortably play Bayonetta 2 and was wondering if there was any bonus to not using the pro for XCX.

I think that bundle is a nice starter pack :

I already owned a Wii U for some time, sold it earlier this year. Don't really care about MK or Splatoon, just sold it after playing Splatoon for a lot.

I'd maybe get Super Smash Bros though, or mario maker, haven't played that one.

I got the Smash Bros bundle in anticipation of XBX and been very pleased with it. The console has a very small amount of games I'm actually interested in (like.. Five or something), but so far I feel it was worth the money.

The games the console has are good, for sure. Specially first party games, and reading about XBX just makes me regret selling it, even if it was just collecting dust for a while.

You can have seen that giant dinosaur, the massive ceiling like natural structures, when you're actually playing, the wonder is still here.
It's so over the top in a good way and like expected Noctilum is quite the exploration playground, a lot tighter than the first zone Primordia.
Something that I didn't think of, is that with the superjump, the game gain a platforming aspect that was less present in Xenoblade.
And here, figuring a way to climb high mountain and other structures, stealthing in the open dungeons bring something fresh to the exploration.
When I found that they even give stats to war cries in battle, I thought to myself, it's gonna be good!

Just a thing, why the camera get slow indoor...

Just noticed on the eShop that X has 2 5-star ratings already. I mean, I'm sure I'll agree with that but how is that possible since the game isn't even out yet?
Europe I'm guessing? Pretty simple actually. All the review copies are digital versions in Europe (this is also a reason* for no preload, preload locks all copies of that game until launch which would mean locking out reviewers too).

*-I say a reason (off-topic rambling)
because Splatoon and Mario Maker didn't have this problem as their review versions were a separate build of the game yet there was no preload offered for those in Europe. While many people are like "why couldn't NOE make a separate review build here" why would they, they don't care about preload :P

"Too Big" 7.8/10 IGN?
If you're going to do the meme right it should be "too much game".

What is the combat like in this game? Similar in style to PSO, or more like a FF type turn based jobby?

Very similar to most MMOs, if you've played any. Constant auto-attack with a handful of abilities you can execute from the menu on the bottom with d-pad and A that have a cooldown period and possibly use up some TP.

If you want a FF comparison, it's closest to XII (though different enough to make me think that while XII's combat is a ton of fun, XB(X)'s is merely pretty good)

All my friends already have the game. We all bought the game online at Game. I'm still f*cking waiting. I have a paper to do and I f*cking can't because the god damn anxiety.

Hmm, this actually makes sense and I agree with you.
