Xenoblade X Eurogamer Preview: Maybe 2015's Most Impressive Open World

For anyone that's contemplating getting the guide due to the lack of 'available information', I've got a big spreadsheet I've been working on full of stuff. The only significant things it's missing right now are enemy drops(and the Cauldros enemy details), and a section for devices/crafting, but I should have most of those bits done by the English release.

I'm also working on a simulator for the frontier net thing, since moving the probes around in-game is annoying and takes forever.

It's funny how you assumed that a person interested in Nintendo games is either:
  • a kid living with their parents
  • a manchild living with their parents
instead of
  • having living expenses that wouldn't allow to buy an overpriced console for exactly two games

A lil defensive here dude. People are just tired of the "at a reduce price", "when it hits some *insert some price here*" or "I am not buying a wii u for just 2 games" shit in every wii u thread. If you live in USA it cost $200 refurb from nintendo and there are many many more games then two worth playing.

sweet jesus
the best thing about these games is the "passion" some people have :p

So can a USB stick or SD card be used to hold the data packs? Do I really need to get an entire external HDD for this game?

How large is the game download vs. disc plus all data packs?

Were you involved with the original Xenoblade spreadsheet? Because that thing has been my bible for the past 4 years... I'm looking forward to making great use of this one.

You know a Xenoblade release is imminent when the spreadsheet shows up in all its glory.

edit: saw your other post saying you weren't involved with the first one. Still, I'm stoked to use this spreadsheet for Xenoblade X.

You can't use a SD card at all.

You could use an USB stick, but you should be aware that it might be unreliable. But using it for this sole purpose should be fine I guess. You should check also its speed.

Game download - 20 GB, data packs 10 GB.

Nah, but I wish I knew who did. I haven't been able to figure out how to keep the columns/rows frozen in the public version of mine, or make things sortable :/

I see you were able to freeze the rows while scrolling. I can help with making them sortable though. all you have to do is select all the cells in a sheet from the first column label in the upper left to the last cell as far as you can go in the lower right, and then create a filter. This will make everything sortable in that tab. This has to be repeated for each tab, and may have to be repeated if you end up adding alot of cells to any particular tab (the filter only sorts the cells initially selected when creating a filter).

Filter button is here in the upper left. I'm able to create a "temporary filter" as a view only guest:

In the picture below I'm able to sort the arts tab alphabetically by making a filter from cells A2:O174, as an example:

Also note that the filter, when sorted, will usually sort your blank gray divider cells at the bottom automatically.
Since this has to be repeated as you add cells, it might be worth waiting to complete (or near-complete) each tab before adding the sortable filter.

Hmm, while this is definitely useful, I was thinking more like the way this is set up, which looks like it's using javascript somehow. I know there's a thing where you can add scripts in the sheets, but I'm not really sure how/if javascript fits in there.

You're doing amazing work.

I don't think that's Javascript. Well, custom Javascript, anyway. I haven't used those things myself, but the Xenoblade spreadsheet is using a filter view: https://support.google.com/docs/answer/3540681?hl=en

If you click on Data > Filter views you can create a new one and maybe mess around with that.

Edit: Seems like the specific feature the original spreadsheet is using was "List Views." That has since been replaced in the newer Google Spreadsheets by the more powerful filter views. So yeah, seems like the right way to go.

Godspeed o7

So good. Still won't look at it so I won't spoil anything. xD

The Pre-Load finished yesterday... I have to play many other things to forget about that icon in the Wii U menu that I can't do anything with... O_O

So, what's gonna be the OT title?

Xenoblade Chronicles X |OT| It's a Skell of a Time!
Xenoblade Chronicles X |OT| Next gens best Asscaves

My favorite:

Xenoblade Chronicles X |OT| Your face, it did not render deep enough

Xenoblade Chronicles X |OT| We're stuck on a different planet

Edit: Beaten!

Xenoblade Chronicles X |OT| Just one more cave... Why is it 5 AM?

Xenoblade Chronicles X |OT| Skell, it's about damn time!

Xenoblade Chronicles X |OT| They look like dolls but they're really skells

I feel like there's a joke to be made about the people looking like dolls and dolls being the Japanese skell name somewhere.

The wiiU can do it, it's just there's no more space on the disk

But isn't all the data in the downloads on the disc? Isn't the whole point that it's just copying chunks of the game's data to a place it can read more quickly?

I assumed that was why there was no additional download for the digital version. It's just the whole game, installed.

I was under this impression as well. Data packs just put content already on the disc onto main storage for quicker load times.

It wouldn't surprise me if the Wii U required install data to be in a separate, signed archive. It's more secure that way, and support for installs in general seems to have been a bit of an afterthought.

I love this one.

Xenoblade Chronicles X |OT| They're not dolls they're skells!

I think this one is funnier with a slight modification:
Xenoblade Chronicles X |OT| They're not dolls, MOM, they're skells!

Just funnier to me that way lol.

My lame, mostly-pun-based contributions.

Xenoblade Chronicles X |OT| Earth is gone, we are Skells now.

Xenoblade Chronicles X |OT| Mira all the stuff you can do.

Xenoblade Chronicles X |OT| Not to sound cliche, but this world rocks.
