Did I miss the Skell shitstorm? Was there one?

I think it's ok
Also I can see why they'd change Union to Profession.

Ok guys sorry for my prudish 20th century outrage. I guess I'm not evolved enough to appreciate Japan's postmodern game design.

I think it's more this thread. The people in this thread came to watch streams for a game they are very interested in. If you were posting in a thread dedicated to that subject specifically the over all responses would be different.

As a good Christian, I STRICTLY believe we shouldn't allow people to dress up so revealing! This liberal revealing clothing should be covered! I don't want to see any skin! Who's with me?!

Will we be able to use the Gamepad as a map while we play with the Pro Controller? Would be awesome to always have a map at my fingertips like that.

Started to watch the second Johndoe stream, watched 15 minutes of it and closed it. That's it, I don't want to watch anything more of it.

I really freaking need this game now! Give us a release date now, NoA!

What are some other streams? I'm currently watching BSpowerx's, i'd like to see what others are doing.
I think the music has grown on me. Especially that 1234 song in NLA Blade area.
Edit: Oh shit i'm a member now.

Not a single person has accused anyone here of being a pedophile. One person made the suggestion that the inclusion of the character and the armor options were designed to appeal to pedophilic tastes.

What I've seen in the last few pages are individuals grossly misrepresenting why some have a problem with the character/armor design. These have ranged from "You're just a prude", "I guess you don't play GTA" or "I'm sorry if you find her sexual" which so spectacularly misses the point (or even what has been argued) that it is hard to believe.

This isn't about "Oh well, you don't HAVE to do this. . ." You don't have to do a lot of things; it doesn't mean their existence is ok. You have threads where individuals go ape because of how gaming "culture" is represented in the media or by those on the outside looking in, and then you have nonsense like this that is hand waved because "Epic RPG!" and you just have to sit back and wonder.

The game is going to be good. I am going to get the game. That doesn't mean the developer gets a free pass on design choices.

What was the original title?

Guy releasing Pure Sexual HD videos of Xenoblade X, Headphones Highly Recommended.

Ask again once the game is officially out in Japan and more gaffers have access.

The irony :P

The title would have been perfect with what the discussion devolved into.

So you're saying...and I don't want to mess this up:

If someone doesn't like some outfits in the game, they secretly really do, so much so that they shouldnt be trusted around children?

No, I dont like those outfits in the game.

But I said my peice about it, decided I wouldnt use it , and am pretty comfortable in the fact it wouldnt make it through localization anyways, and if it did, I wouldnt use it anyways. Just like many others. Its pretty normal. Then I stopped thinking about it, and went on to other things in the game.

People who spend pages upon pages upon pages upon pages talking about little girls in outfits designed to fit any and all avatars that can be made with a creat a character system, and wont talk about anything else, are obsessed with the subject of little girls in outfits.

Kind of the same way I would feel about a preist whos sermon day in, and day out, was about how pokemon made teens homosexuals, and is trying to get people to donate enough money so that he can get himself a private jet. Wouldnt drop my kid off at his churches pre-school service, because the chance hed try to use pokemon to lure kids onto a private jet and take off is just a smidgeon too high.

People not having a problem with Lyn's outfit aren't automatically pedophiles. Some of you jump to conclusions and generalize way too easily.

It's indeed awkward that outfits that were probably designed for a mature avatar also scale to fit Lyn, as well as showcase her body in ways that aren't appropriate for a 13 year old girl. However it's all the choice of the player and these lewd outfits are amongst a wide selection of other outfits that don't show skin. You as a player have the choice of how you want to present Lyn, her character and strong persona stands separate from her look and I appreciate that. Should her outfits get censored or her age raised? I wouldn't mind, but I also won't put her in those outfits if I get the game so it doesn't even bother me. That's how I feel about it.

No one's a pedophile just because they don't personally have problems with it. I haven't seen anyone actually say this, but if they have it's not worth listening to.

I would however like to question your stance here. It's basically "I won't do it so it's not a problem for me". Is it really all about yourselves? The game is saying "this is ok", they think it's absolutely fine that under-age characters can be represented in inappropriate outfits. Is that alright? Sure, it's a choice, but why have that choice?

I wouldn't say the game is in any way actively encouraging it, but it's definitely not discouraging it either. Why is it even there in the first place? Developers should be better than this; I want them to care about this stuff so we won't have to have these boring debates in the first place.

Last I'm going to say about this, is that this post is correct. Thanks ANDS.

Blue cat guy's first post on the last page was pretty abrasive.

They get a pass in this case because their design choice was correct.

What about the multiple posts that gave pretty good reasons why Monolith's design choice was, for the most part, correct?

The game is saying "this is ok"

I apparently have pretty different opinions from you about the role of choice in video games. Making something possible in a game is not a moral endorsement of said thing, especially not in this case where the ability of that one character to wear that specific outfit was a very natural consequence of the game's existing systems.

Not gonna talk about the swimsuit for fear of a random ban but I do think he made a good looking avatar. The face and hair combo is pretty good. The eyes are a little wonky with how big the irises are but other than that, it's so much better than what the treehouse has been showing with the generic avatar.

If a character is under the age of 18 in the U.S., they should not be portrayed in their underwear.

I can't speak to other cultures, other than the laws and norms should be respected in those territories as well.

But that's what localization is for ::shrug::
They can simply age up the characters if you feel so strongly about the need to see them in their underwear.

My two cents anyway.

Ok, something I am curious of, do the guys have similarly skimpy outfits? Like, Free! stylized skimpy made-to-show off outfits? Because 1) that would show that Nintendo all about that equal opportunity fan service and 2) ...my sister needs to know before she starts drawing incorrect fan art...

I'd be really surprised if they didn't, considering how they handled it in Xenoblade. I mean, Shulk's swim trunks is his alt in SSB4.

Would be fun, if NPCs got upset about the MC's outfit.
This is how every NPC will treat you when you dress in that bikini as Lynlee

I feel similarly. I seriously hope they pull a Bravely Default on this stuff and just alter Lynlee's outfits.

Yeah I think if we get a bit of eye-customization we'll be free of uguu faces. They just need to be rotated and maybe shrunk a bit. The overall amount of customization and freedom in this game is seriously impressive.

Also I wonder if we'll get DLC.
amiibo suits incoming.

I think Lyn's character is supposed to be a genius engineer for her young age, so it's not like aging her up to 18 would take away from that. It's an easy fix for western audiences.

what? is it really that bad they would need to change the age of the characters.?
Its the swimsuit for the child so innapropiate? haven't seen it.

Aging up characters for western release is REALLY common to avoid any potential shitstorms. It's the easiest way to do it without making any major alterations to game content.

Why do you guys think it will be censored? look at the Shulk/Sharla examples Seik just posted.
I don't know if I think it will, but Shulk and Sharla are 18+ and obviously look around that age. Lynlee is clearly supposed to be younger than that. Her face and body are that of a 13 year old. Sexualization of characters might get a pass by NOA (and I have no problem with sexualization normally as long as it's equal opportunity), but sexualization of characters who are clearly minors might lead to controversy in the US which is something most companies would like to avoid.

Lyn doesnt have any outfits.

No character has specific outfits, all outfits scale to fit any character that can be created in the character creation system.

Which on the bright side means localization will be that much easier, they dont need to try and decide which outfit for which character needs or should be changed, they can just alter an outfit, and it will be altered for all characters.
