And think about what the US is doing instead and then think about who will be poised to dominate energy projects around the globe? If Nigeria needs a solar plant, they will look to China guaranteed. Hillary may not have said it in a proper way, but she was absolutely right,those US coal miners will lose their jobs. But instead of mining coal or working on pipelines, let's build factories developing Tesla style batteries, let's get American companies manufacturing solar energy on a large scale. Invest and subsidize now so they are poised to dominate 20 years from now.

China currently produces 28% of global renewable energy capacity and plans to spend a further $360 billion on renewable energy and achieve 50% commercial green building certification by 2020. Meeting these objectives would create as much renewable energy capacity as the entire US electrical system and would mean half of the world’s green building space was located in China.

China has been taking this very seriously, now yeah, the outcomes are still quite bad in some areas, but they invest in renewable energies way more than any other country and take pretty drastic steps to curb emissions.
This renewed emphasis is not surprising, but still good.

Tiger and rhino trade have been banned for years. I mean yeah, there's still a black market, but that's a law enforcement issue, and I don't think it's something that should be addressed on that level in this platform.
Shark fin soup is more of an ethical issue than an environmental one (it use is also really declining).

Who would have thought China was the good guy environmentalists

When the air quality gets as bad as it is in China, it is always a wake up call that something needs to be done, as it becomes a problem one can't ignore. The USA had a similar come to Jesus moment in the 70s with smog alerts in LA, and the river catching on fire in Ohio, leading to the formation of the EPA under Nixon.

China has been showing lots of signs of taking seriously their newfound green initiatives. It will, however, take a lot of time and money to reverse the damage they've already done. Even the US hasn't done so yet, and from what I can see, China is setting up the groundwork to be the global leader of green tech in the future.

Its amazing that the authoritarian government with the horrible human rights records actually has a better grasp of climate change and its long term consequences then the selfish, greedy bastards that make up the GOP in this country who care about nothing beyond their next 30 years of life.
