Xinput Driver for Microsoft Common Controller ( Xbox360 pads on PC? )

Overview
The Microsoft Common Controller Driver is a new game input standard that is used for both the Xbox360 console and for Windows XP SP1 and above. The Xbox360 controller or any controllers that utilizes this standard will enable the device to be used on Windows also. This Redist Package includes the driver for IHVs to redist with their hardware. For the most current APIs of the Microsoft Common Controller, please download the lasted DX SDK. These APIs are called Xinput APIs.

is this what i think it is?

There's new controller support in WinXP? So we can expect things like analog buttons and triggers to work in WinXP?

it keeps giving me an "Installation did not complete" error.

This is the CC-x86-enu.EXE file that gets extracted when you choose where to extract your files.

I've tried running it both from windows and the command line, and I keep getting the error.

I'm on SP2, but that shouldn't be an issue.

Yes. It's part of MS's strategy for creating a "console-like" PC gaming platform starting with Vista: they created an unified controller standard to which game makers and hardware manufacturers should adhere, so every game that wants to use a joypad will rely on the same controls. Xbox 360's controller is the first real implementation of this standard.

Faceless:

make a log of the install, and paste it here.

This is what mine says, which I know means it didn't install correctly yet again:
[log]
0.031: ================================================================================
0.031: 2005/10/15 01:46:02.718 (local)
0.031: f:\84413ce8f4762f448980fb3f60\update\update.exe (version 6.1.22.4)
0.156: DoInstallation: InitializeCustomizationDLL() Failed: 0xf0f6
0.281: installation did not complete.
0.281: Update.exe extended error code = 0xf0f6
0.281: Update.exe return code was masked to 0x643 for MSI custom action compliance.

Did anyone else try this?

Does running the exe rom windows work for you?

Assuming it doesn't, and you have to run it from dos, can you please use the /log <FullPath> switch to output the results to a log file, and then paste them here?

how about because you cant use it.
So?

I'd rather have it installed and waiting for me the day I get my controller than having to go and download the drivers then and deal with this potential problem.

If I can get something like this ironed out now, I won't run into problems when I pick up my controller.
