Wish there was a Verizon one in the US. It looks like a great phone .
They just keep getting bigger, are there any high end <4" Android phones out there?
If the S4 doesn't wow me, then I might get this.
How much bigger than the S3 is this? All they did was shorten the bezel for screen size right?
Cause I it isn't that much bigger than the S3, same with the S4. The S3 is like the perfect size for me.
The million dollar question that everyone wants to know, will this phone get updates to the android Os when klp (5.0) releases
I'm tempted to grab this - is it available in Australia already?
I am wondering if it is worthy replacement to my S3 though, which I recently realised just HOW happy I was with it.
Maybe I'll wait for the S4 announcement and then work my way from there
I would say skip the Xperia Z ánd the Galaxy S4. The Galaxy S3 will remain a very solid phone for years to come. You can easiliy get 2 more years out of it.
I'll be honest, the idea of having a phone that is resilient, looks good (and admitedly better than the S3) and the water protection really has me interested.
Yeah most of my reasons are superficial, but >_> I don't know how I will rationalize that.
Yes. 4.2.2 begins rolling out soon, depending on when the GS4 releases, Xperia Z/ZL will likely be the first OEM devices to get 4.2.2, quite a turnaround from Xperia S.
I get that. You can sell your S3 for a good price and invest in an XZ.
Which one is an XZ though? One of these?
Also, just wondering, besides the water protection - what is the difference between Z and ZL
That didn't really answer the question, I would expect it to get 4.2.2 (frankly, any new device releasing now should have at LEAST 4.2.1, but what about 5.0?
Edit: Just noticed the messaging app icon, my god that is terrible.

What's the root/rom situation like on Sony phones? Is it a piece of cake like Samsung or are they a pain in the ass like HTC?
Superior auto mode
Normal mode with HDR
The camera samples turned out pretty good here:
http://www.androidcentral.com/sony-xperia-z-camera-sample-images-video
And it compares the camera to the Xperia T, overall it seems the Z is a little bit better but not as big a jump as a new backlit-sensor would suggest.
Hype has been kinda dying down for this phone, was hoping for an outstanding camera
The black ZL is the only one with the textured back I think. You guys didn't get the white ones?I work for a cell phone company in Canada and just had our in store training session for the ZL. Not sure if I'm more or less hyped for it. To be honest the feeling of the back was actually a con; I like the smooth feel of normal plastic/metal hardware. The screen was impressive. Very bright and lacking in saturation. The UI felt almost too skimped down in my opinion.
But in even more amazing news. Rumour has Sony may be making a nexus phone soon. End of year/ to Q2 next year. You heard it here first.

Xperia RX. Well I don't know what the name is going to be, but Sony's legendary imaging prowess is going to be integrated into Xperia.
I agreeeeeee. It's weird that Sony doesn't have better camera processing software. I assume they still haven't integrated the company to a point where those 2 divisions are actually working together. I mean, at least it's not Motorola bad but Sony should be better at that.Textured > Smooth.
So much better to hold.

They could have just written better imaging algorithms. It's embarrassing to get beaten by their own last gen imaging chip just because they can't write good software.

Their second half of the year flag ship?
Too many flag ships...
Good news if they can sort the camera thing out because then if they make a Nexus phone...it will truly be the peak. With that said:It's happening, now that SMC has moved to Japan it's a lot faster and they are working together much better than before. The integration still isn't fully complete, there is a lot to work out still, for example the intracompany pricing for SMC for image sensors is said to be higher than what Apple pay for them. That will all change, but as with anything Sony, it takes time.

boooooooooooooooooooooNot allowed for Nexus. Hence why Sony will never make a Nexus unless Google relax the branding/customisation rules. It's also why Samsung bailed out.
Indeed. Just as we got Mobile Bravia, we are going to get Mobile BIONZ, I think it is a software port of their BIONZ processing engine for NEX and Alpha cameras rather than an actual processing chip.
Sounds interesting. This year?
booooooooooooooooooooo
it's kind of ironicBlame Google. It's their stupid pricing and customisation rules that causes worse and worse companies to release Nexus devices.
