Ya know, Final Fantasy X doesn't deserve the hate

At first I didn't like the game because of the weird designs and the story didn't seem that indepth. Playing through it again now, it really is an amazing game. Very well paced, the music is perfect for the scenes. Battles aren't overly complex but they're not cakewalks either. Even the Sphere system(which I used to hate) is pretty useful:) I just really think Square did a top-notch job of creating a game that makes you want to complete the story. Even the voice acting isn't *THAT* bad aside from the laughter scene. If FFXII is half as good as this game, it'll still be a stellar game:)
 
I liked FFX a lot, I stopped playing after
entering inside sin
because the difficulty level just went through the roof and I didn't feel like leveling, but otherwise I really enjoyed it.

I love the battle system - fast paced and you can take adventage of the fact that you can see the attack order. Begone h4t3rz.

That's funny, I really liked FFX too, but I did the same exact thing. Didn't feel like spending the extra hours. Someday I'll start over again and finish (especially since my sister, not much of a gamer, finished the game completely)
 
The battle system was really fun, better than any previous FF. The voice acting is great for the series. Even, then game felt like a halfassed effort compared to earlier games. No worldmap, really lame locations/dungeons early in the game, lame main villians, etc.
 
It's my favorite Final Fantasy game. It's also the first RPG I've played in Japanese, and the only one I've ever replayed (the NA version). I loved the battle system, liked the characters, and think that it pulled off the whole cinematic-RPG thing very well. Also, the voice acting, as flawed as it might've been in some cases, still made it better than if there was no voice acting.

The worlds were breathtaking and varied. The music, while not my favorite, was always appropriate. And the battle system is the most fun I've had in an RPG. The only real flaw was the crappy animation when the characters were talking (not during the cut-scenes).

I also actually liked the linearity of the game. You're supposed to be a stranger from another world who's tagging along wit ha group on a mission, so it only makes sense that you have no control over where you're going.
 
Yeah, FFX is an awesome game IMO...I'd say it's in my FF top 3. Also, it's not really *that* hated here at GAF, there are quite a lot of posters who like it as well. And I never really understood why people disliked the voice acting so much. It's not bad, it's decent and definitely adequate. All in relation to other videogames featuring voice-acting...and there are several examples of what bad voice-acting really is like. :)

For the record, I abhor Nomura/Nomura-inspired character designs. I think it has contributed to the glut of bishonen characters and is further alienating the world from Japanese game designs. It is an absolute shame that the series of Amano has turned into some Visual Kei wank fest. The androgynous nature of the characters just ruins any power they have in the story. This doesn't mean I want stereotypical characters (child hero, muscle bound black dude, etc), because in my mind, the Gackt, T.M. Revolution, mid-90s visual kei influence in Nomura's work is just as sterotypical. For these reasons I hate FFX.

I have high hopes for Mistwalker just for the fact that they seem to be avoiding the ridiculous character design decisions going into the FF-series.

It's because it's almost 4 years and the overall quality in traditional RPGs just went down this gen. Must make FF10 stand out or something. :lol

Seriously, my tastes for FF10 didn't change yet. It's "so-so" imo. The characters aren't all that great, holy shit god damn the dungeons are lame and dull, very nice to excellent battle system and nice rate of encounters. The graphics are good too i guess. But there's nothing that really did catch me like some other FF, it misses punches and twists, i'm not fond of the game after i finish it.

To me it's
ff6 > ff4 > ff7 > ff9 >> ff5 > ff10 > other FFs.

I didn't like FFX too much, but it's wayyyyy better than 7 seriously FFVII is so overrated, yeah the game is good but not that good.

still FFVI is better than both
 
I also love the game but i just got to a point where i wasn't leveled up enough and i just didn't want to go through the hassle of just battle after battle...now with FF7 i did that though, but i guess that was a different time and place. I'm determined to go back and finish it though...

No im not trolling. There are very few RPGs I like but FF7 just blew me away. So you guys are trying to tell me FFX story is better the FF7 and the leveling up and gameplay is better? IMHO Hell no!
 
I love FFX; it was the second RPG I played(My first RPG was Legend of Dragoon on the PS and I loved it :lol) I loved the story, the battle system, loved the graphics and art direction, thoroughly enjoyed the sidequests(finding the celestial weapons, the secret aeons, the Omega ruins e.t.c) and I thought the music was good.
 
I didn't like it compared to the rest. The begining is very slow and pretty dull. Takes like 5 hours to get going for real. Also the english voices are unbearable, especially Tidus. I also missed the worldmap.

You level up in all FF games, at least I have to. Also, FFX is better storywise. FF7 might be more epic, due to things going on around it's launch, but I still maintain that FFX is better.

Personally I just run away from all the battles there and head straight to boss. :p The encounter rate went through the roof and the battles were annoying. While my characters were clearly underleveled by the time I got to the end, with some strategies, I still beat it with a few tries. I still remember beating FFT with my low level 30s characters. :D I never waste time to simply level up characters in console RPGs.
 
Well I am kinda lost for words on what to think of FFX. Beautiful graphics (though slight case of virtual alzhimers). Even if the voice acting whas poor it was still a welcomed change for me and i would rather have it that way over the traditional bubbles with words in them. But the whole story direction with Sin and all was just a total disaster for me and it got a whole lot worse at the end. So much worse that i lost all interest in playing. It felt like a kid made the story up.

And if you're inquiring about my tastes and styles i regard as FF7 and FF9 as the best final fantasies equally.

I did exactly the same thing, but because my brother completed the game I still got to see the ending :D

I've only played FF7, 8, 9, 10 and X-2 (which isnt worth mentioning) and FFX is my second favourite one after FFVII. The music was excellent, the characters were pretty good and the game seemed to flow really well.
 
i loved it and i've never played any other FF games (except FFX-II). Only game i finished this gen, come to think of it. the levelling up was a bit mind numbing, but loved the story enough to finish it :)

ah Sin wasn't too bad.

Same Old gameplay? You're very weird haha.

I like the fact that they actually made the characters abilities unique in the game, at least in combat, how you actually need to bounce party members in and out occasionally depending on the enemy type. I know when I played FF7-9 I just basically used the big 3 characters or 4 in 9's case. I like having to utilize all my resources:)

Gameplay was the biggest change I've seen from one FF to another. Not that I thought it was better (FFX-2 got it right).
 
I just beat the game not too long ago, I thoroughly enjoyed it. And blimblim, I loved the battles inside Sin. Sure, I quickly learned what battles were not worthwhile (mostly due to a high chance of death), but I could just use Tidus' flee command to escape those. The rest... you got a crazy amount of experience for each battle! I ran through this area I don't know how many times to get my characters prepared to battle the last series of bosses (especially since I hadn't learned Lulu's most powerful spells or Yuna's Autolife ability).

FFX is maybe the first FF game i loved. i hate reading when playing. FFX really helped me in this.

honestly FFX is the best game this gen for me. along with MGS3 and ZOE2
 
What? no. Final Fantasy 10 was a terrible game. The voice acting was garbage, characters were poorly designed, the story was stupid. Compared to Final Fantasy 7 and 6 it's a very poor game in the series.
 
I always thought FFX was an excellent game that could have really used a world map and a few extra 'big' areas like the plains to explore. While pretty, most of its areas and towns felt really small without that much to see or do. Spira itself was a great world design, so I wish they would have allowed us to explore more of it.

Side remark:

I'm always amazed by the hate for 'girly man' latter day FF character designs, when Amano is worshipped in the same breath.

... don't people realize that if the technology had existed to portray Amano's REAL artwork in 16-bit Final Fantasy, NOTHING would look more "fluffy" and bishonen?

Haven't the gender-threatened people seen Amano's -concept- art for the older FF games where quite a few male characters are right up there with Nomura's best in terms of bishonen looks and wildly stylized costumes?

Of course, I also don't get the general hate and dramatic whining over FF's characters 'alienating' the rest of the world. Let FF be itself. Plenty of people in the West actually like those character designs, despite what chic gamer hate would like to insinuate. If you can't stand the style - the style that has always been there in -concept- in FF - then go play Western AD&D inspired RPGs with sweaty Grignr men who need a bath and a shave.
 
Why does everyone say the acting is bad in the laugh scene? Its not ment to be good. It was Tidus acting stupid(well stupider) to cheer up Yuna. The laughing is SUPPOSED to sound fake and forced.
 
I really enjoyed FFX as well. There were a few things here and there that bothered me -- at least in comparison to other PS2 offerings (gesture quirks, shaky models during close-up cinemas, some of the voice acting) -- but all in all, twas an enjoyable adventure. I'm glad I played it.

...now Squenix, where's FFXII and the inevitable FFVII remake on PS3?
 
FFX doesn’t deserve the hate. I loved the game. What I don’t think people realise the sheer amount of cultural research that went into the game. It analyses Japanese culture and breaks it down into its three origins: Yamato, Ainu and Ryukyuan. The whole idea of Yuna being a noro (an Okinawan priestess) who travels from village to village to receive the blessing/power their local God is an anthropologists dream. What makes it even better is that Tidus in actuality is the most powerful of the local Gods, completing her ascension as a Grand Priestess (Which by the way references the Grand Priestess of Ise who presides over the sun Goddess Amaterasu, the most important Japanese God, as “Tidus” is a modification of the word “Tiida” which is the name of the Okinawan God of the sun).
 
FFX definitely deserves the hate, it pretty much killed my interest in FF for good (that and seeing Vaan for the first time). If square is so determined to make all their lead characters effeminate, why don't they make them female? It worked for FFVI.
 
All you need to do to finish FFX with ease is get to the part where you're at the long hallway leading up to the fight with Seymour in the area where
Yuna is supposed to marry him
, then simply fight and fight, using the save point to heal every so often. You'll be so powerful, and your grid will be pretty much completed, simply level up until you learn Tidus' Quick Attack, then continue with the game.

I do this every - single - time, and FFX's difficulty decreases exponentially. I have no problem whatsoever finishing the game from that point on.
 
I'm glad that most of you have good taste in games. I'll never understand how somebody can hate FFX. It had possibly the best story I've ever seen in a game, excellent production value, amazing visuals, and a lot of engaging gameplay. If its battle system was as good as X-2, I might consider it the best RPG I've ever played, but that goes to another title this generation, Tales of Symphonia. I suppose I'm a bit biased since I didn't get into RPGs until last generation and only played FFVI and CT a few years ago. Still, I thought the latter two were ridiculously overrated and very unmemorable other than thinking that Kefka was a terrible villain and Chrono Trigger was way too convoluted for its own good.

and that fucking Spectral Keeper thing that can auto-kill your summons and fuck your normal guys up fast, I loved every moment in FFX. Quick Hit and haste breaks the game, though

I've explained this to people on other forums and have been brushed off with "so whut still meens yankee VA suxxx." I guess to some people any voice acting that's not Japanese=bad
 
FFX remains the only FF game I have ever played that I never bothered to finish. Can't think of a good thing to say about it.
