YAKUZA 5 LOCALIZED FOR PS3

Ah. I thought that was kind of how the storylines of the games go, or at least 3 and 4 were more like that which I was completely okay with. I played through all of the localized ones and the only one I was iffy on was Dead Souls. Otherwise I enjoyed all of them.

Yeah, same here. Dead Souls is what it is, but I still feel like the ending/final scenes in that game solidified its place in the series. For me at least, the credits track felt so genuine and heart-felt, I couldn't help but to appreciate the game for what it was worth and it made me just love everything about the characters and the universe that Nagoshi and company have created more than I already did (still rocking my Dan/Kazuma avatar back when Dead Souls and Binary Domain first released...).

I feel like there's too much love and passion in these games to nit-pick over plot details and narrative issues, etc. The games are just classy as fuck and they're shot/directed too well to feel any ill-will towards them at the end of the day, imo.

Well, shit. Releasing Yakuza 4 on Plus was well-timed. I finished it recently enough that I'm missing it, and this is from someone who was only vaguely aware of the series prior.

I'm super jazzed now, you can't bump this thread and not expect me to be excited. Day 1 insta buy...unless I'm broke which is a very real possibility if they don't give me a gosh darn release date.

Now Sega please bring over Zero
and PSO2 plz

I don't download games though. This sucks.

please shut up about how cheap you think a small run of physical releases would be; no 1 curr
just import the disc & buy digi day 1 like the rest of us

Sony is sqeezing blood from a stone with this localization, satisfying collectors is probably not much of a priority.

also this

still got a sour taste in my mouth from Yakuza 4 but I'll jump on this.

totos you bring that ol' bullshit up in here and i'll add another taste for you

don't

Can't wait. Already have an OT banner in the works, too. :)
(And the thread title.)

that's what i'm talkin' bout!

Every time this thread pops up I think it's getting released. Just give us the date when it's ready, me and my wallet are there.

Nagoshi....his face looks weirder and weirder every time I see it...

actually, i'd say this's about as weird as it's ever gotten, & involved surgery/injections - looks like something produced by an rpg character creator. depressing...

Man, I hope we get a release date soon.

Physical? Digital? I don't care as long as it gets delivered into my PS3 (I'm admittedly running out of space though). Fucking Yakuza 5 yessssss.

Already starting playing Yakuza 4 again because I can't deal.

EDIT:

Just give me a damn solid release date so I can book time off work.

This too. I've got 2 weeks to burn this year and I'm def dedicating one of them to the release of Yakuza 5. They better not surprise release this shit during E3. I need to plan my binge session with this game!

i hate digital and dont want to support a practice where i dont really won my games, but for yakuza 5 i'll make an exception if necessary :/

That Twitter message is from April 20th, mentioning that then "the long road of translations & editing begins".

I think that is in reference to the video interview they just conducted for the game.

Again, I imagine the effort to translate everything and clearing the rights is why the game is taking a while to be released. There is a lot to do in this game (including the Another Drama stuff for each character
save for Akiyama
), not to mention they might have to replace instances of the licensed songs from Kyosuke Himuro/GOSPELS OF JUDAS used in cutscenes and a boss battle.

P.S. Akiyama is awesome in this game, even if he's sporting that goofy product placement watch
that was also the focus of a blatant substory.

I always found it weird that
Akiyama never got a another drama mode, I'd have imagined either some sort of Lone Shark mode or club management, but that was pretty well covered in 4

I don't remember that side story for Akiyama, I do remember the cringe worthy one in Dead Souls though which revolved around Detective Date
shilling some kind of shaving razor. The dialogue for that was hilariously terrible
.

I think the game is stuffed as it is,
especially when Haruka herself had like 48 submissions to clear...though it might have help make his leveling to lvl 20 quicker as to not grind for the Komaki rebirth training. As for the sub story inquestion, it was the one where Akiyama has to give style advice to someone. He has to go to a store and flip through a magazine and find the ad, then take the person to Le Marche. My understanding of Japanese is very little, but the way the scene inside was set-up, the dialogue name dropping the brand and the blatant shot of the watch on the guy afterwards made it very clear.
I actually don't remember that Dead Souls sub story...then again I don't make an effort to remember Dead Souls outside of a few highlights. Haha.

I was also not prepared for the naked Yakuza ass.

Are you talking about Ishin's
second boss battle. That cracked me up so much.
/ Unless you mean in Yakuza 5 where
the boss of the Osaka talent agency is doing press ups naked for some reason
.

For Yakuza 5, I'm just looking forward to playing through the game again in English, so I get a better grip on the overall story. I was ok with most things bar Shinida's story, which while
feeling unrelated to the main game is still pretty cool when its all said and done. I really did feel bad for him in the end after watching KHH Subs translated cutscenes [/spoiler.

Only thing I don't look forward to redoing is the
optional fight against Komaki and his grandson. What an insanely one sided fight if your using Shinida, I basically lucked out in the end. Amon wasn't much easier either with him.

The latter since haven't bought/played Inshin yet (though Kenzan is next), but seriously, I had a reaction of WTF?! I don't blame you for Shinada's rebirth training, I just cheated and used weapons. I probably could have cheesed the AI if I was good enough, but I wasn't in the mood to try. I've yet to try the Amon fights because at the time I was trying to wrap the story quickly, but I might save it for the English release.

I'm keeping my thoughts on the story to myself for now, but I will say that I loved the loan collector in Shinada's story, totally not the character I was expecting at first.

Absolutely, I was expecting him to be a pretty one dimensional character from when he was revealed but I think he ended up as my favourite character by the end of Shinada's chapter.

Yup as usual we gotta buy and show that we support this series in the west so that it stays alive for all of us.

We do well and Zero would be on its way also.

When I did a fresh game on EX-hard, I just used 3-4 broken 1985m shotguns for Shinada, they rarely dodge out of way and can shoot them on the ground.

I REALLY wanna play the Yakuza games on PS3 but just never got around to them. Are they good? They seem so immersive and involving.

I've had both 3 and 4 and even Dead Souls on my backlog which one should I start at? I played a bit of 3 and watched the recap from 1 and 2 but I didn't play anymore than the grave scene at the beginning. Other games and commitments keep coming but I feel I'm too late now and missed out on the party? I know they are not short games either and the completion its inside me will want to do everything.

4 is by far the best. And probably the best game I played on PS3 and I must have 80+ its just crazy fun, immersive, great writing, great characters, great plots sometimes tragic, sometimes insanely goofy.

3 is considered the weakest of the mainline. Its very slow start. But gets good and even amazing by the end. But very very long and weak start. It probably better to start here story wise, but also, not the wisest as it's not the best entry point quality wise.

4 starts is just stellar. They introduce a new character and by the first few hours it was EVERYONE favorite character. I never saw such a fine character in a japanese game

Play them in order, the problem with Yakuza 3 is that it starts really slow. As for being a completionist, if you really want to understand Yakuza's charm you should try to complete all the sidequests (some of them are amazing), Yakuza 4 has the best sidequests in the series.

If you can only play one Yakuza 4 is your best bet, the story is way more enganging (the cut-scene direction is top notch) and there's a new cast, the story is more self-contained and the pacing is great.

If this does well enough to get Ishin here, and it had damn well better or I BLAME YOU GAF, I will cry.

I hope so. Even then though, I could see them skipping Ishin and going to 0 if this was successful enough.

But I have been surprised before. See: YAKUZA 5 ACTUALLY COMING!!!!!1
