She's playable, but that's a hack. She doesn't fight in the game.

The official Playstation channel on Youtube has removed the Yakuza 5 PSX trailer, I can't find it anywhere on there. What's that all about?
Ah right. Sony had the trailer up on their channel as well, with 80,000+ hits last I saw. Seems a shame to take it down when that's where the bulk of views for it were.
Crisis averted,
Guess SEGA wanted the hits at their channel.
And less exposure in the process.
I can kinda sorta understand SEGA being worried about Yakuza 5 working with western audiences....
I mean I guess so, but I don't think that's any more outlandish than hostess clubs or what have you.
I mean I think it's funny that people will buy a gritty violent game and have to sit through some idol music but TOO BAD
It does have videos but if you can I'd suggest at least buying 3 on disk. Great game.Is 4 a good starting point? I have no acces to a ps2. Does it have the catch up videos i have been hearing about?

Really wish it had some sort of physical release, but who am I kidding, we're finally getting it!
Just don't cut shit out like Yakuza 3 Sega.
Where any of these confirmed for the PS4 or is it just PS3? As thinking of trying these.
They won't. Y4 was fully complete. They learned from their mistake. This is digital only too so I really doubt anything would be cut.
The guy who runs KHHsubs says there might be some tricky translation stuff with Haruka's section and name kanji. I'm sure there's probably a way around it, but it will really depend on how much time/effort they can expend on it.
I'm sure any trivia stuff will be cut again too.

aw man.. 2015. and no PS4..
will have to dig out ps3 for this. (gonna hate the controller...)
really hope we get yakuza zero on ps4 though.
If that's the case.. awesome!!
So this is digital only? I was about to get rid of my ps3. Lucky i didnt!

I think you can use the PS4 controller on the PS3. Don't quote me on that, though.

Yes, you can use the DS4 in the PS3; however, not all games are compatible. Dunno if Yakuza 5 is compatible.
Btw, Akiyama also appears on Yakuza 5? I'm really liking his kicking style of fighting![]()
No real chance of that. Yakuza has been in the plans for a long time, and mainline titles are getting the priority, but the commercial viability is crap for this. This game is going to bomb anyway, but you have to reduce the risk factor as much as possible. That way you get more.It has been confirmed as digital only for North America and Europe. Really wish they'd consider a physical release with limited pressing in some fashion, but English-speaking fans are lucky enough to obtain at all after this point.
So Japan get this for free plus game this month...

I would kill for the a digital only release of 1+2 Remastered. I think Yakuza 2 will always be my favorite title in the franchise, with 4 right behind it.
I would do many things to get Yakuza 1/2 in HD, ill live with just 5 for moment though, I wake up everyday, go to GAF and seeing this thread still makes me happy.

You could do a limited retail release, but there wouldn't be that much of a point. It's a lot of hassle with logistics for a title that's basically a gesture of good will. A proper retail release with a more concentrated marketing effort is better when you're really going to get behind the product, but it's far too late with this series on PS3. Ignoring the fact that having a number five ahead of the title is a tough sell to people who haven't played the series in the first place (which is basically everyone), the PS4 is already released and there's no point to putting that kind of effort behind this particular entry. It's there to be nice to fans really. This has to come first before you can go to Yakuza PS4. You may get a retail release with that, but it's far enough not to really matter at the moment. I'd guess PS4 Yakuza ends up digital too because they'll try to cut costs, and basically screw it up in a self-fulfilling prophecy sort of way.
Yakuza fans should be happy though. They've been crying about these games long enough. It shouldn't matter if it's not retail. It's at least something for an inevitably doomed project.
I watched the 60fps videos of Ishin today... This needs to happen, it's glorious.
Playing baseball in 4 always annoyed me wishing it could be that smooth in the game.
I think he talked only about Ishin.BTW, Verendus, credit where is due: you were right![]()
I've never referred to Yakuza 5 to be fair, only the samurai and Yakuza PS4. And I wouldn't necessarily say they're bleak for that reason particularly. Although, you are right in a way.The expectations for a retail Yakuza on PS4 are kind of bleak. Once an IP enters the "digital-only market" it is hard to get out. All sales data the companies gather from that point onwards only prove the viability of the digital-only approach. I mean, if Yakuza 5 performs "well" (i.e., above Sega's very low expectations) why would they bother risking a PS4 Yakuza retail release? After all, digital-only worked, and they all know what happened the last time they released a physical disc for that IP. If Yakuza 5 bombs, they will release the PS4 Yakuza digital-only to cut costs and reduce risks, or just not release it at all.
That being said, if people want English Yakuza in the future, their only chance is to buy Yakuza games and convince others to buy them too. If people do that enough, that might convince Sega to take the risk and try with a physical disc again.
I, for one, consider myself lucky and happy with getting a Yakuza in English at all.

Personally, I still feel the samurai game getting a re-brand and a renewed push in the West would have been a better starting point. That should've been first in my opinion. It could've been a good platform to get more fans into the franchise, and then use that to move to Yakuza 5 and the modern Yakuza PS4 game due to be released. But the problem again, becomes Yakuza 5 because that would be even later.

I think Ishin is good simply because it's detached from the mainline series as a stand alone. I don't know about references or whatnot, since I've never played any of these, but if you're really going to push something, having something different isn't a bad thing. It's also easier to re-brand if you're really going to put the necessary effort in. Sega mishandled the mainline Yakuza series, and the damage done isn't something that's really going to be reversed. It's pretty much game, set, and match for those titles. And by the time we get Zero localised, it's going to be screwed anyway.I mean... yes. But even being only an hour in, I can already say that there's enough references to the rest of the series that it's kind of a weird starting point to think Ishin is good for people who haven't played other RGG games.
I obviously don't know much about Zero but it seems like that would be a more likely way to try to rope in new players.
Do you know how much is sony involved? Did they just give them a push or are they actually helping them with speeding things up?stuff
everyone basically requested Yakuza 5 more than anything else.
Here's to hoping Zero is better than it, since that's going to end up being my starting point to the franchise.as they should have. It's maybe the best game in the series.
