HDMI, baby! The videophile in me is having an orgasm! ;)

Just saw Gamespot's specs for PS3 and noticed that under Video Output it says "HDMI out x 2".

Yeah, baby. That's what I've been waiting to hear, and that's all I need to know!

Digital video signal for life!

:)

Not just one HDMI, but 2 :)

Even better than that, the PS3 can run the two outputs simultanously. :D

That means no more split screen gaming.

It means a second monitor to display additional information. If it works for the DS, then is most be good for the PS3. :lol

PS3 is a videophile's fantasy come true.

1080p games/movies running through an HDMI connection on a calibrated HDTV...

F*ck! F*ck! F*ck! My head feels like it's going to explode.

Yeah, that's awesome. Sadly, my TV only has one HDMI input...but whatever, component will do for other systems.

why is this exciting news again? When they said the PS3 supported 1080p that pretty much guaranteed you would have HDMI (as component doesn't have the bandwidth to carry that much data).

I'll get excited if any of them announce you can play games at HD resolutions without HDMI, seeing as how I only have 1 HDMI port on my TV. This seems to be an unreasonable hope though :(

oh, i didn't know that.

i'm hoping (expecting) that by fall '06 i can walk into Best Buy and see tv's that can do true, pure 1080p at an affordable (no more than $1,500 USD) price.

How many people own 1080P sets? I applaud Sony but man they seem to be taargeting this system to celebs :lol

Now i have to worry about my inputs on my HD...i run just about everything through component, now i have to find an HDMI splitter...does one exsist? I have a Dish HD box but that supports DVI ( I'm sure there's an adaptor ), i currently have my PS2, XBOX, DVD player through component...have the Gamecube through S-Video and the DC and my gaming PC through VGA....now with PS3 i can move the PS2 out and into the bedroom...i'm just going to run out of space....i want to keep the XBOX becuase the 360 only offer limited BC...i could move the Gamecube if Rev is BC...i'm still going to run into an audio problem...i'm sure all three consoles will run in 5.1...argh...i have alot of shuffling to do...

::shrug::

i don't see anything wrong with thinking ahead. Sony's just preparing for the not-too-distant future. i mean, at one point in time televisions that had an S-video input were considered high-end.

I know, its sweet. I dont have a HDTV yet so I guess my TFT will have to do. There are HDMI to DVI converters right? :)

We should have an officiall "Which TV should I buy for PS3 and Xbox 360?"-thread, or maybe someone already made one? :)

Considering how powerful these consoles are, I could see them being viable for 7-8 years, probably more. 3-4 years from now I expect 1080p TV's to be where 720p TV's are at now. It's all about progress, Sony's just thinking ahead.

Don't worry about the here and now...think about it, PS2 will get 6 years. If PS3 equals that lifespan(which I think is probable, given how things are more profitable towards the end of the console cycle...and in fact Sony may try to eke out another 6months to a year), then it'll go from 2006-2012. That's a LOT of time for 1080p sets to make it's way to the market, especially if FED/SED HDTVs drive down the costs($1,000 or even maybe sub-$1,000 at some point). It's just a nice feature for those who can enjoy it now, and those who can enjoy it later on in the PS3's life.

i haven't really looked at the specs to closely but I'm guessing if it plays HD movies it has to have dvi/hdmi for copy protection.

Also it says it plays SACD's doesn't it need analog outputs?
