so.. what are you buying this year?

It's all about Mario Kart DS. I will buy a DS for this game. Nintendo, please confirm a release date for it. Fall/Winter 2005 isn't cutting it. I'm going crazy.

I agree, the DS has a very strong lineup for 2005 and i'll probably end up buying too many games but who cares, rock!!

Disappointed Nintendo didn't show a redesigned DS. Something more like the SP. I was in favour of buying a PSP...but it's looking more and more like this generations dud - was there anything for it at E3?

I am amazed at the lack of shovelware. Compared to the GBA, where 80% of the games are not worth even looking at, it's pretty impressive.

Kasavin said DS won E3. It had the most games on the show floor that he wanted to play, and enjoyed when he did play.

Gaffers am cry.

Lemme see, what sounds good?

June
13 -- Kirby Canvas Curse
27 -- Meteos

July
30 -- NANOSTRAY DS

September
27 -- LOST IN BLUE DS

October
03 -- CASTLEVANIA DS

November
15 -- Sonic Rush DS

Of course, by then, I'll be looking more at the Japanese lineup. Perhaps there will be a bit more there...

I was in favour of buying a PSP...but it's looking more and more like this generations dud - was there anything for it at E3?

The PSP and the DS had THE SAME NUMBER OF GAMES at E3. :P Seriously. They had nearly the exact same number of games (give or take 1 game).

Yeah, but was PSP the one with the shovelware?

I've been waiting for some games worth playing on DS, but almost every game I want is coming out in November, again. That means that, once again, I'll have to pass up a number of games due to lack of time. I still haven't gotten around to Metal Gear Solid 3 or Metroid Prime 2 from last November.

Actually, October has all the other games I want for it and the only other new games I plan on buying this year are November as well.

13 -- Kirby Canvas Curse
27 -- Meteos

26 -- LUNAR GENESIS DS

16 -- PAC'N ROLL DS
22 -- Metroid Prime: Hunters DS

13 -- Ultimate Spider-Man
26 -- Trace Memory

03 -- VIEWTIFUL JOE DS
03 -- CASTLEVANIA DS
09 -- Advance Wars

07 -- Mario Kart DS
14 -- Black & White Creatures DS
15 -- Mega Man Battle Network 5: Double Team DS
15 -- Trauma Center: Under the Knife DS
15 -- Animal Crossing
15 -- Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney DS
15 -- Sonic Rush DS
15 -- Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga 2 DS

tons of fun on the way :D

Damn, I have at least 2 games to get every month starting in June, except July.. that is unless Lunar turns out to be, uh, good. I need monies. Plus there ares till GBA games to look forward to, Fire Emblem and Wario Ware are coming up, then Riviera is on its way. Yeesh.

You know the DS gives me a NES vibe. The competitors hardware may be superior, the software is all in Nintendo's system.

Damn, I wish Pokemon wasn't delayed to next year. :(
Still, lots of titles of interest. It's like a complete turnabout with the PSP in terms of interesting games on the horizon.

Must Buy
-Trace Memory
-Meteos
-Castlevania
-Advance Wars
-Mario Kart
-Electroplankton
-Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney
-Animal Crossing

Maybe
-Bomberman
-Lunar Genesis
-Metroid Prime: Hunters
-Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga 2
-Mega Man Battle Network 5: Double Team DS

Pokemon DS was delayed? was it at E3? I forgot all about it

Emerald is out this year and XD later. I don't think they want to overexposure it (if that's possible). There still have plenty of content for gamers.

I'm EXTREMELY surprised that polarium 2 didn't show. Its easy enough to make.

I do not approve of the name trace memory. The Japanese name was so much classier.

WHY ARE SO MANY READY GAMES TAKING SO LONG TO LAUNCH? I mean Meteos is more or less ready; as is kirby. How long does it take to translate. I think in this day and age of babelfish (j/k) titles should be more readily ported.

If Advance Wars, Mario and Luigi 2, Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney and Trauma Center: Under the Knife all make their dates, and if they all get good reviews, then that might finally be enough to make me buy a DS
if the price drops to $129
.

Don't think you need to worry about the PSP. The DS, at least in the US, had a 4 month head start and its just now beginning to start getting out of its drought (arguably, it still won't for a couple months yet). The DS and PSP both launched too fast in retrospect. I fear the next-gen systems might suffer from the same fate. : (

Seriously, what makes you say that? The PSP lineup is nearly as strong AND the current lineup available in retail stores for PSP absolutely crushes the DS. At this point, it's closer to something like Genesis VS SNES...

yeah.. lineup.... I mostly agree but the lack of variety is a bit stiffling.

Pricepoint is another issue. Different markets.

In your opinion. Nothing released thus far has made me want to pay $250 for a PSP.

in your opinion, see bolded. Some can/will argue that titles like Yoshi/wario/mario can match the might of WO,RR,Lumines (that's what's more or less AAA on PSP now). I have these title and I would say 2 are overrated.

he didn't comment on DS, just PSP. Way to go putting words...

Bah, whatever. I don't understand why people are being so harsh on the PSP at this point when the lineup is actually very solid. It's a great system and this sort of false word of mouth can have a bad impact...

dark10x said:

More than a PSP, yes. Not system sellers obviously, or I would own a DS. But games like Warioware, Yoshi Touch 'N Go, Puyo Puyo Fever etc are much more appealing to me than anything the PSP has right now. And Mario Kart, Castlevania, Animal Crossing, and Mario & Luigi2 are games that will ensure I own a DS later this year. What's coming for PSP that makes me want to own it? Madden, and uh, maybe Burnout Legend... And from E3 Madden didn't look so hot, and isn't going to include all of the new features on the '06 console versions. For $250 not even a perfect version of Madden with online play is going to do it for me.

What are all these comparable games that were at e3 for PSP? Seriously, I'm interested in knowing.

The GBA has some HAWT titles coming as well.

I love my PSP, really do...
But I think, as soon as the DS starts having some more decent games over here in Europe, I won't be able to resist buying one anyway...
Then again, whatever will I do with two handhelds?

harsh on psp? most people in this DS thread were interested in DS til you came in with your post to show how DS HAD NO GAMES COMING. Um Damage Control?! More like you can't handle the comment that 2005 = year of the DS.

BACK On TOPIC.

ON NEW SUPER MARIO BROTHERS

I think the 2p platforming using 2 ds + independent scrolling screens in NEW SUPER MARIO BROTHERS is fucking stupendous. Just mind blowing really if you think about it. I don't think many gaffers picked up on this but when I saw it.. I was like WHOA. They don't show the 2p mechanic but I was watching the video and luigi would run off screen and I'd think.. how the hell do they control him if he's offscreen... on the other DS.. Ingenious.

DS GAME OF THE SHOW IMO

I have a good feeling I won't be buying a PSP.

Sure, there might/will be some great games for the system, but I don't feel it's worth the price of admission. Something tells me by the time PSP drops to a price(console and games) I'd be willing to pay, I won't care any more because I'll be getting ready buy or already playing a next-gen console.

Yeah; been saying it, (still not what would get me to buy a handheld, but...) Hopefully the PSP will be following suit with an explosion of original titles before 2005, too.

Well, it's all opinion obviously and these don't "stand out" as much, but here are a few that interest me...

Burnout Legends
Stand Alone Complex
Infected
Coded Arms
Medievil
Daxter
Metal Gear Acid 2
Guilty Gear (the SoR style game)
Virtua Tennis
Death Jr.
Ys VI
Lemmings (from Team 17)
Pursuit Force
WRC
Crisis Core
Sonic PSP (well, this wasn't shown...)
PoPoLoCrois
Monster Hunter P

Then, there are a number of Japanese games that weren't even shown at E3. Once again, those aren't necessarily going to interest everyone and they certainly don't carry any big names, but they all look pretty awesome.

On the DS side, there are a lot of great games that will be released that I just don't have interest in.

So, I can understand why people might not have interest in a number of those PSP titles, but I think it's unfair to suggest it has nothing.

til you came in with your post to show how DS HAD NO GAMES COMING

Whoa, I never said THAT and it's true, I can't handle those DS comments. I just can't fully understand what it is that has everyone excited. I see a number of good games, but nothing that would justify such a statement.

The current PSP lineup is strong but it seemingly has very few interesting games coming out this year. I can't see GT4 making it because of the features they're adding and it not being shown at the show so what does that leave... Virtua Tennis, GTA, and...?

Meanwhile the DS, with its currently awful lineup, ugly design, bad 3D, and retarded gimmicky controls has -

Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow
Advance Wars 3
Mario Kart DS
Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga 2
Nintendogs (hate if you will but it looks interesting)
Dragon Quest Slime Morimori 2 (okay, I'm hoping on this one)
Super Mario Bros DS (no release date set?)

Advance Wars 3 is the clincher but damn if the DS lineup isn't looking really good. Fuck you, Nintendo (well, at least only 1 of the games is of the annoyingly bad 3D type - Mario Kart - Nintendogs and Mario DS look fine).

that's pretty much using that list to say a) there's a drought b) no good games...etc etc. Considering you only listed 1 game from that november list, out of more than 20? Urgh.

Please take the PSP stuff elsewhere.

many of the games you listed are indeed interesting , but they are not making a 2005 release (in the states) which we are looking at now.

Well, I won't be living in the states...so I don't even know what I'll be playing at the end of this year. :P

** Online games

These games interest me. Castlevania, Mario kart, advance wars and kirby is a given. Trauma under the knife and Another code will also probably be bought.

Btw Another code is coming out 2005-06-24 in europe! That's 3 months earlier than the US release. :)

Even 2006 is shaping up very well, considering the amount of online titles that are in the works from many publishers that we can expect to hit after the initial Mario Kart and Animal Crossing online releases. Though I wonder if any others will hit by the end of this year, but I don't think any third parties have said anything about that?

Yup, this year i'll be buying more DS games than any other platforms i own, DS is starting to flex its muscle and without the enormous ammount of shovelwares GBA had.

So uh, yes, pretty much the best lineup at E3, and heck, If the new mario is bringing the best of 2d marios, coop, and lots of levels, then its probably gonna end up best game of the generation.. New sonic looks awesome too

WTF? Have you seen Mario Kart DS in motion? It looks excellent.

I'm downloading a new movie now. I "pre-viewed" it in 320x240 and it looked quite a bit better than the old videos I have of it. Maybe the pictures threw me off (they're awful).
