Same thing happened with PGR2, IIRC. Didn't stop the detractors then, either...and in some cases, they still went on early build pics even after the game was released

More or less yes. Obviously that shot looks cleaner thanks to anti aliasing. Other than that yes.

Although I'm very impressed by PGR3, I'd have to agree here.

The first console to the market in any generation typically sees the largest leap in it, it seems. I feel this is due to developers taking time to figure out what this generation is going to let them do. We didn't see as large a leap in the xbox or gamecube's lifetime as the PS2 because the PS2 was the first to the market I think. The same thing happened during the 32bit era. PSX grew more than the N64 did because by the time of the N64, developers were starting to get a better grip on what exactly this generation was going to be all about.

I predict that there will be a LARGE leap over 1st gen stuff in this coming generation. Even over games such as PGR3.

That being said, PGR3 is still fucking sexy.

Please god let them include a sequel to Geometry Wars. I was actually top20 in that game for a while, now I'm in like 40-60th place. Best minigame ever, so addictive, so beautiful and so difficult.

Looks like their 'target renders' are quite doable then, if PGR3 can pull it off. Still not sure about the cars though, especially the yellow car in the garage shot.
