You asked. We listened. We delivered.

Yooka-Replaylee now runs at 60FPS on Nintendo Switch 2, with a brand-new performance mode available right now.

After tremendous outcry, we've given your favourite duo an even smoother adventure. Expect faster, more expressive platforming, more responsive movement, and a silky-smooth experience as you explore every corner of this colourful world.

Whether this is your first time experiencing the wonderful world of Yooka and Laylee, or you're returning to hunt down every last Pagie, there's never been a better time to jump in.

Available now as a performance update on Nintendo Switch 2.

Playing through it now. It makes a huge difference to the feel of the game. There's an in-game toggle and you can see real-time where they had to make cutbacks (mostly stuff like textures and lighting) but for the most part it looks the same.

Definitely should have been included at launch but yes, better late than never. A must-have if you're a fan of platformers.

Not sure why it wasn't there in the first place for such a game, but better later than ever.

Seems like a lot of third party developers got their Switch 2 devkits pretty late, and a lot of the games that were available at or near launch definitely were clearly rushed and not taking full advantage of the hardware. We've seen several titles get major patches a few months after release that significantly improved visual fidelity and performance.

Honestly, it's kind of amazing that Playtonic got devkits prior to launch at all, given how many small developers were reportedly still waiting for theirs even late last year, but maybe some of the founders still have contacts at Nintendo from their Rare days.

It's the best Banjo Kazooie game since Banjo Tooie. They basically improved on most (if not all) of the complaints of the original game and added a ton of new content and unlockables, like modifiers, moves, abilities, upgrades and outfits.

There's tons of minigames, secrets to find and a huge cast of Banjo-like characters. Like I said, if you're a huge fan of platformers (especially 3D platformers) it's a must get

Still haven't forgiven them for not giving uk/Europe owners of the original the discount other regions got, and I don't buy the Eshop store being the reason.
Anyway, waiting on a decent discount, current sale doesn't do it for me yet, bah humbug

I wonder if they fixed the very juddery first-person camera. IIRC there were some issues with the starry sky texture on the ice level and I got stuck once on the rocky parts of the swamp level. Normally you can wiggle your way out but one spot got me good.

I think the best of the Yooka-Laylee games is the 2.5D sidescroller; Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair. The original Yooka-Laylee was a Kickstarter project back in 2015, it was built on an older version of the Unity engine and struggled to run at 30fps on most hardware back then (back when Unity was crippled by OpenGL 4.x). While it was a valiant attempt at recapturing the vibe of Banjo-Kazooie, it was definitely rough around the edges. Yooka-Replayee was a complete rebuild of the original game on Unity 6, and apparently it is a better game in a lot of ways. Overall, it seems like Playtonic is doing alright.
