You Will Never Be.... A God....

Can You Imagine What SureAI Is Going To Do With Garfield?
I still don't get that line. Thanos never wanted to be a god. He just wanted to snap some fuxkbois.
He was a genocidal maniac but that's true he didn't really want to become a god in the sense of being worshiped. He just wanted to be alone on a planet and cook food like a hermit as we see in Endgame.

Yeah, that line didn't make much sense.
So Thanos will never be a "god" like Loki? So what?
He can kill a "god" with his barehands, so who cares?

I'd rather watch ghost busters, than the avengers

This doesn't help out anything in this thread, just wanted to put it out there
Well it’s the greatest movie ever made so who could blame you?

Thanos in Infinity War was glorious, Endgame ... was pretty boring. Don't dislike Endgame, it was just kinda fine as a way to wind up numerous threads, retire classic chars and introduce new boring ones.

Infinity war was kinda special though as it had stakes while End Game finished stories. I can respect both but much prefer Infinity War. Have watched that far more.

Massive respect to the Russo bros for such a massive undertaking and doing it justice. Films were so big they screwed any (conitinuation) films after, gonna be hard to top it unless Galacticus or Dr.Doom. Even after that, who then? Seems a bit late to bring in a new big bad but audience is young enough, no harm in introducing someone new is it was done right. Then again a new char wouldn't have the nostalgia/countless decades of character development they heavily lean on.

Perhaps that's exactly what is needed. Gotta be a huge amount of writers out there dying for a chance instead of Marvel/Disney playing it safe.

You could argue that Thanos was a God.

In a single moment, he beat the shit out of Thor (an actual God), killed Loki (another God) and toyed with the Hulk before beating him so badly that it shattered his confidence. That was before getting all the stones.

With the infinity gauntlet and the complete set of stones, Thanos was basically a God.

This takes us back to an old argument. If Thanos had all of that power, why snap half of all life out of existence? Why not just create new planets, or galaxies with new resources?

Maybe that's what Loki means when he tells Thanos he'll never be a God. He had the power of a God, but didn't know how to use it.

Not sure if intentional but in the Loki series when Loki was observing his own death, it was framed as if Loki was speaking to himself rather than Thanos, because in away he was right, you will never be a god and Loki took that personally.

Isn't this before we learn what Thanos's plan is?

So at that point it just seems like he wants the Infinity Stones to get god-like powers. But he will never be an actual god, hence Loki's rather meager insult.

It was weird reading that story after having seen the movies just to see the source. I was like, wait, what the hell is going on here?

I mean, the comic story is cool, but at the same time I feel the movie motivation works better for a cinematic epic. I mean, one could look at it this way if we compared movie villains if they had done the comic motivation:

Star Wars villain: a mastermind with nearly unmatchable powers and a disciple hoping to lure his son to his side so he can overthrow said mastermind
Terminator villain: an AI that has determined itself superior to humanity and wishes to eradicate them
Predator villain: an alien species that excels in combat and utilizes technology above ours and aims to hunt those of us who it seems worthy of the hunt
Avengers villain: dude gains godlike powers purely because he can’t take a hint that she‘s just not into him

Like, the comic motivation just doesn’t feel like it works with a decade of films building up this guy and that’s what he’s essentially doing. Like, MAYBE if they had established Death as a character before IW as well, but I dunno. In one of the Age of Ultron trailers, there was a shot of an unknown woman standing in a cave, and one of the many theories by fans regarding her identity was Death. Then, not only did she not appear in the movie, but it turns out she was just part of the weird imagery Thor saw in the cave water and not meant to be anyone particular. Whoever edited that trailer was being a sly bastard.

Yeah, that's one of the main changes made to Thanos' character in the MCU that I wasn't totally a fan of, it kinda took away a lot of what made Thanos unique in the comics.
In the comics he was some ultra powerful being that's actually beset by insecurities and easily manipulated emotionally. That's why he never felt he "deserved" to be a god-like being.
But in the MCU since they needed some sort of final uber villain, they had to remove those things and made Thanos just another stereotypical "noble" villain or whatever that is.
