What did you name your animals and why? And what are the funniest ones you have heard?

I have 5 cats, and yes I am going to be that weird cat lady down the street that nobody talks to and looking forward to it, to say the least.

Anyway, my cats names are

Sherbert (boy)- also called Sherb, Sherby, Sha boo boo, Sherbs
Hobo (boy) - also called Hob (hard O), Hobosky, Hobs, Hoby, The Big Hobosky
Little Big Momma (yep, a boy) - Munchkin (he is 24lbs and far from a munchkin but he thinks he is one and we never refer to him as a him - always female references like her, she, girl etc.)
Jack (boy) - Jack-a-vito, Jackie, Mr. Jack
Jill (girl) - Jill-a-vita, Jilly, Jill-a-vita Conchita Rodriguez Venezuela Cardinale! Yes, I actually do call her that with much gusto.

Jack and Jill were already named when I got them from the shelter and I though it was cute, so I kept their names. Sherbert had the color of orange sherbet when I got him, then I had him groomed and he is more tan now. Hobo - cause he was a hobo with a bad ear. Little Big Momma....well......I first had named her X-Rox since someone thought it was funny that I screwed up saying Xerox. But it was put out there and I thought it was very cute and funny and she actually answered to it and it stuck and fits her since she was such a tiny kitty and grew and grew and grew.

Then there is Joey my brother's dog now. I named him after Joey Buttafuco. He's a yellow lab that needs a pinky ring and a gold cross necklace to be set. ;)

So what are your names and why did you name them that?

Echo (dog) - fiancee's brother named her.. and it just stuck.
Mango (cat) - we like mangos.. and she has the whole color scheme going on.

DarienA

The black man everyone at Activision can agree on
Winter(dog) - 9 month old male Alaskan Eskimo named that way because he's all white.

The only pets I've named are my old Eskimo spitz, Zelda, and my betta fish, Kirby (so named because he routinely gulps up bits of fish food and spits them back out).

My fiancee and I have decided to name our future pets after file formats. We just need to find a dog cool enough to pull off "Jpeg".

Kiriku

SWEDISH PERFECTION
My cat: Tova

I didn't name her, the previous owners did. I got her when she was about 1 year, and decided to stick with the name. Mainly because she was somewhat old already, and it feels weird to change someone's name just like that.

And about the name, it's a Swedish expression...the best translation would be 'tangle'. Her fur is kind of big and gets messed up at times, especially when she's outside rolling around in the garden during summers and on similar adventures. And well...the previous owners didn't exactly take care of her fur that much, so I'm not surprised by their choice of name. :/ You have to brush her just about everyday.

Oh, and my previous cats were called (I named them myself)...

First cat: Cayenne. No special reason other than it seemed fitting and catchy
Second cat: Salsa. Same as above

Bruno (Broon, Brunoid) (dog, 2 )
Jess (quite loopy i think she is senile...) (dog, 15)
Tilly (fatass, beats up the other cat) (2)
Twiggy (quite weird, has a bit of a manky eye and is chased away frequently by bruno, who is the newest addition to the house) (cat, 5)
Scruffy (was 10 about 2 weeks ago when we had her put down. my favourite cat - she almost talked) :(

i think bruno was named after a boxer... dunno where jess' name came from, it was back in 1989 :p, tilly had a nice ring to it, twiggy was named after twiggy ramirez from marilyn manson when i was going through a phase :p scruffy was named due to her .. well scruffy appearance.. she always had tufts of hair sticking up all over the place, and would walk in dragging half a tree in her fur

the only other pet names i can remember that are hilarious are :
minky mong (friend's cat)
NIGEL (british blue cat, awaiting purchase by a friend.. they asked for the most british name i could think of.. nigel is what i came up with :p not that hliarious as a name, but i thought so for a cat )

There's around 4 cats here, all came from the street. The first 2 we fed them out of pity and they decided to stay, then the rest just started sneaking in to eat the food of the cats already living with us and they settled in as well.

Bert, Krispy, and Rocko are all male, and Sony is the female.

We've got 7 cats right now, but there are only two that anyone here would find particularly interestingly named.

Al Sharpton - When we got five kittens earlier this year, my brother wanted to name them all after Democratic candidates. o_O This is the only one that stuck, though. Little black girl.

Danny Glover - So the other cats ended up named by people not me... but I couldn't let ANOTHER cat get stuck with such a generic-ass name as "Boots", so I looked for an interesting alternative. Rather than boots, gloves. And going from there, Danny Glover.

I have one cat right now, her name is Mystic. Had dogs named: Cystal, Snowy, Rocky and Ebony. Had cats names: Tiger, and Yacki ( there's been 4 different versions of Tiger, i have retired the name at V.o4)
I also had a Dinosaur, his name was Denver and fortunately for me, he was the last Dinosaur :D

female Labrador - Penny (if you knew our last name you'd understand... it sucks because I always wanted to name a daughter Penelope but now my parents damn dog stole the name)

female cat - minouche (called Min-Min). My family's last 4 cats were all namd Min-Min in a shocking display of unoriginality.

my brothers iguana - Marcel (he might have been male, we always just assumed)

turtles - Rufus and Rex (gender... well we never did figure that out)

female cat - Fluffy (named when my brother and I were very young because she... was fluffy. Her horrible accidental death when I was 7 still scars me.)

male mixed German Shepard/st bernard - Schultz (great dog, would pull my brother and me on our sled around by himself)

Two cats:

Mashy, named after Count Lazlo De Almazy, because he's a huge drama queen, just like the book/film.

Ruki, after Haruki Murakami, because one of the first conversations my present GF and I had was about Wind-Up Bird Chronicle, still one of our mutually shared-favorite books.

We take ourselves very very seriously.

Hamster - Popo
Dog - Cujo

Next dog will probably be named zugzug (warcraft peon speak) or Poochy (Simpsons reference)

2 cats named Handa and Obi. 1 dog named Arti.

Handa is the tuxedo son of a cat named Harley. She was named by my nephew because he loved motorcycles. Cat purr = vroom to him. Handa is the amalgamation of Honda and Panda to continue the vehicle theme with a nod to color pattern. Also, our first stray kitty was named Princess Leia until she dropped balls and became Han Solo.

Obi looks like a siamese with white tux and boots on the end of his seal pointed feet. Add the blue eyes and he looks like a furry tan-cloaked Ewan.

Arti is a stray mix hound with silvered black and tan that could reasonably be said to be everything from a beagle to a shepherd to a greyhound depending on how serious or silly she looks. Ex named her Arti saying it was an Indian goddess which seems incorrect. It is however a basic ritual which uses lamps to join the devotee's energy with the deity. Because of the cats people think it's shorthand for R2-D2(Artoo if your that geeky). Sometimes call her Miss Artimess when she gets away with something and then smiles and crosses her paws.

I'm not really a huge Star Wars fan it just worked out that way. serious.

Obi... short for Obi-Wan.

...
hrmm.gif

Yes, that one. But before you say anything: I DID NOT NAME THE F*CKING DOG. My sister did, because she's the one who brought him home. When he was a puppy, his ears stuck out from his head like a bat's; they were so disproportionately large, you'd swear a strong breeze would pick him up and carry him off. Because of his unusual ears, she wanted to name him Yoda; however, an aunt already has a cat named Yoda. Since there couldn't be two Yoda's (
rolleyes.gif
), he became Obi-Wan instead. And I've loathed the name ever since.

But now that he's mine, I call him any number of a variety of names that he'll respond to, as well as Obi. I'm particularly fond of calling him "Monkey."

:D

SteveMeister

Hang out with Steve.
Yellow Collared Macaw: Duncan, named after Dune's Duncan Idaho, I felt it was a good name for a companion considering he'll be with me for another 20-25 years. I've had him for 13 years now, longer than I've known my wife. He'd hatched 3 months before I bought him.

One dog named Chelsea: She was a stray found by some friends who couldn't keep her, and was about a year old when my wife & I got her. We just liked the name. Nothing to do with the Clintons' daughter. We think Chelsea may be a finnish lapphund. She's around 11 or 12 now.

Another dog named Taya: Collie-shepherd mix. Named after a character in a book about the Celtic migration from France to Great Britain. Taya's around 8 or 9.

My wife has an arabian mare named Miss Piggy -- that's her barn name, anyway. The horse's registered name is Mia Fadjo, whatever that means. And my wife used to have a warmblood-thoroughbred cross gelding named Twrch (registered name Welcome Wonder), which is either Welsh or Gaelic for "wild boar".

Cats (which aren't mine, as I hate cats) left to right: Coquisha. Azrael.

Dog: Boo.

And I was so proud of Boo for the "don't mind me, just passing by" surprise attack captured here. What followed was a 5 minute biting/barking/hissing fit that rivals that of Ode to Joy, as far as I'm concerned.

Boo (R.I.P. little dude) - my first cat that died earlier this year at only 7 years old. Named him Boo because he liked to chase, and try to scare people. Also named after the ghosts in Mario.

Milhouse - He's about 5-6 months old now. He has these eyebrow markings, which were absolutely huge when he was only a few months old, so I named him Milhouse (aka Thrillhouse). Plus he likes to freak out at night and haul ass through the house in the Milhouse 500.

Sweet Pea - My other kitten that is about 7 months old. It wasn't my decision what to name her obviously. She is sweet though.

This is Molly. She is a 2 year old Shitzu. My wife named her Molly just becuase she liked the name. I named her middle name which is Moo. Molly Moo. Moo because when she was a puppy she had cow spots underneath. Molly is show calibur but we never went that route. Her fathers name is City and he won several shows. Enjoy her picture.

4 cats
3 females, 1 male.

1. Pebbles, wifes slightly psychotic long haired calico. Very tempemental. about 12 years old.
2. Bubba or Bogart, my male cat. Big, fat, lazy, but adorable silver colored tabby, also 12 years old.
3. Gizmo, 2 yr old Egyptian Mao mix. Really small cat, about the size of an average 7 month old kitten. But lovable as all hell, almost to the point of annoyance. Must be pampered and babied. Neat freak, if anything is on the floor, she pisses on it.Also plays fetch, like a damned dog.
4. Lilo, the latest addition to our family. A 1 year old long haired all black cat with a shitty disposition. Hates being touched, and if you pick her up she whines like a little bitch. Addiction to playing with small, cat sized soccer balls. Nothing else. She currently has about 6 stashed under our entertainment center.

Pete Carroll Owns Me
I have cats names are.

Jet - This cat seriously thinks its a dog. It constantly follows you around wanting pet. Whenever you sit down the first thing it does is try to get in your lap. If you dont let it, it will just lay at your feet. Always comes when its called and always does what its told. I just gotta teach him to shake now.

Jibberjabber - A fatass cat that does nothing but lay around. Unless you give it a milk jug ring then it goes crazy.

Alex - Outside cat now cuz it couldnt get along with the other two. Always acts like a coke fiend.

Also have a half German Shepard half Siberian Husky named Jake. His sister lizzy just died a couple month ago.

Oh, Jack copies everything Sherbert does. So when I was playing fetch with Sherbert, Jack learned.

So now I have 2 cats that actually fetch a little squishy ball. :D I fling it and they run their asses off. :D

Mini dob? Becareful, many of them have throat/trachea problems. I always wanted one but I took care of one with that problem of underdeveloped trachea and everytime it barked, it would make itself vomit.

I wanted a big red/black doberman and a mini doby. :) Both with matching silver link chains on them.
