Like lots of the rivalries here (Ash vs. Gary lmao you win) but this is personal:
I'm inclined to agree if we're talking school rivalries in a general sense, the amount of school pride in both sides is a little ridiculous even for my liking. In terms of football the Gators reaaaaaalllyyyy stink especially compared to the 'noles right now, to the point that even I (on the losing end) kind of laugh pfft.

I cannot remember another rivalry in MMA where two guys were at the top of their game, fought three times, and there were was absolutely zero trash talking or excuses from either side any of the fights.
These guys respected each other a ton and all three fights are excellent.

Dude, I was just about to post Paul vs Ash being a better rivalry in the sake of competition. They battled several times throughout the series and each match was great; but Electivire vs Infernape was fucking terrific. The storyline with Paul and Ash's Chimchar/Infernape was really cool.The Diamond and Pearl Series actually had a pretty good one with Ash vs. Paul, because they were both on the same level...so it wasn't as one-sided.
The first episode, Paul's set up like a newbie, so when he beats Ash, everyone thought it was the usual "reset bullshit". Then it's revealed Paul's been through all the regions like Ash has, and has like countless other, fully-evolved Pokemon that can kick ass. The fights between the two are probably the best ones in the whole show, although I guess that's not saying much, they got pretty much as classic Shonen as Pokemon ever got.
Then next season they introduced fucking Trip. :<
