Mine's probably While My Guitar Gently Weeps. The lyrics and music are deep and haunting; it's a pity the original doesn't have the added verse of his later solo version though(I like the original more in all other respects). George Harrison wrote two songs in my top five, and I do think he has the best voice out of all of them (Harrison > McCartney > Lennon > Starr).

Runner up is She Loves You. I know it's pretty poppy and shallow, and aside from the vocals having so much enthusiasm (She-said-she-LOVES-YOU! And you know that can't be baaaad....) and the third-person lyrics being a nice change I can't really explain why I like it so much.

Norwegian Wood is stuck in my head since I first heard it a week ago so I'll say that.

Get Back is also up there though.

I'm not much of a Beatles fan, either. I understand why they were a big deal...I don't understand the current fascination with them, since I don't think their music has aged all that well. But anyway.

My favorite Beatles song is "I'm Only Sleeping." It's a weird, paranoid little song, and if I hear the story right, John wrote it after being unable to sleep because of a drug binge for a couple of days.

guitar gently weeps does indeed rock. you never give me your money is also sex through the speakers, too.

I'm probably the only person in the world to say this:

"I don't really like the beatles."

I always used to say this, but I have started to hear more and more of them from friends recently, and I'm really digging them. I'll probably buy an album or two in the near future.

In fact, can someone list all their albums and which ones are the essentials to get?

Just get their Number 1's album, and if you like it you can get more from there.

Do you prefer their early or late music? This is my collection; IMO they're the ones worth considering:

A Hard Day's Night
Help!
Rubber Soul
Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band
Magical Mystery Tour
White Album (blank cover)
Revolver
Abbey Road

Abbey Road's my favourite, and it's the last recorded album. There's also the 'Red' and 'Blue Albums', which are anthologies of their earlier half and later half respectively, which are your best option if you only want one or two.

Please Please Me
Revolver
Sgt Pepper
Abbey Road

Technically everything after Sgt Pepper is essential, but that's a short list

i'm mostly into their pop singles rather than the psychedelic stuff i guess.
still think the rolling stones are a better band.

Why the hell do people who don't "really like the Beatles" waste their time coming into a thread about your favorite Beatles song. I mean it's in the goddamn title people, you don't have to click on the thread and post in it just to realize that this isn't the thread for you.

Anyway, my favorite Beatles song is probably Something.

hyperbolically metafictive
paperback writer. actually i love all the stuff they did between rubber soul and revolver. lots of smart little pop songs with spidery riffs. day tripper, paperback writer, rain...possibly a couple others i'm forgetting. beautifully recorded too.

best thing they ever did was probably tomorrow never knows or a day in the life.

RevenantKioku

PEINS PEINS PEINS PEINS PEINS PEINS PEINS PEINS PEINS PEINS PEINS PEINS oh god i am drowning in them
Some of my absolute favorites:
For No One
Fool on the Hill
Because
Day in the Life
Love to You
Tomorrow Never Knows

Baby You Can Drive My Car is a great song to do karaoke and so is Girl.

And the beautiful thing about Because is right after it You Never Give Me Your Money starts, so starts one of the most awesome sequence of songs ever.
