Like the album thread, we've probably passed the bulk of good movies for the this year with exception of a few pending release. So what flicks have stuck out the most for you this year?

My Picks:

1) Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
2) Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle
3) Collateral
4) Kill Bill Volume 2
5) Spider-Man 2

I still need to see Napoleon Dynamite and Hero.

Hero was very pretty to look at. Great cinematography... But I couldn't wait for it to end, and left the theater feeling slightly bored.

Hero is a long movie, and you get lied to repeatedly. Which rocks, but once you get the shtick you stop caring so much about the retellings since you start to figure they arent real and dont matter anyway.

Dawn of the Dead
Spider-Man 2
Big Fish (was released into all theaters this year. That counts, right?)
Napoleon Dynamite

I must be the only person on the planet who thought The Terminal was really good.

Otherwise, Kill Bill Vol. 2. I've not seen much otherwise that I liked.

Twilight Samurai is a close second. (originally released in 2002, but released in the US just this year.

Fourth

Dan

No longer boycotting the Wolfenstein franchise
1. Collateral
2. Kill Bill Vol 2
3. Hero

The Bourne Supremacy was pretty sweet, but I don't really think it's all that memorable. I've probably seen 20-30 films in theater this year, but most were either bad or not memorable. The Manchurian Candidate might be worth mentioning, but I'm still not sure about the ending.

I haven't had the time or opportunity to see the following yet, but they're films I think I'd particularly enjoy: Twilight Samurai, Zatoichi, Garden State, Mean Creek and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.

Kumiko Nikaido

Vindication...sweet.
I'll just list my top 5 movies of this Summer:

1. Spider-Man 2
2. I, Robot
3. Collateral
4. The Bourne Supremacy
5. Troy

And for the heck of it, my top 3 shitfests of the Summer:

1. Alien Vs. Predator
2. Van Helsing
3. The Day After Tomorrow

What I'm looking forward to in the Fall:

1. Sky Captain & The World of Tomorrow
2. Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence
3. Alexander

:)

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless mind
Garden State
Before Sunset
Spiderman2

Still gotta see:
Napolean Dynamite
Twilight Samurai
Collateral
Harold & Kumar

Here's a list of my favorites so far this year. (in order)

The Manchurian Candidate
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
Collateral

Most everything this summer, and YES, I mean almost every damn movie I watched either seemed incomplete and rushed to take advantage of the summer sales, or was just outright shit.

Worst summer for movies that I remember, thank fuk'n god for those 3 I mentioned above. :D

Napoleon Dynamite is definitely the best so far...i mean nothing has ever matched that in the humor category. IMO. Its right up my alley and i would watch it everyday if i could.

So far, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and Garden State.

Also, since this is the year of the documentary, a shout out to all the docu-esque flicks I've seen: Fahrenheit 9/11, The Corporation, Super Size Me, and Control Room. Outfoxed and Hunting of the President are coming soon to a theatre near me as well.

Pfft, you only listed the cynical, polemic-minded documentaries. I like Super Size Me, but Touching the Void and Story of the Weeping Camel(quasi-doco) deserve more credit than The Corporation, Outfoxed, and ugh, Fahrenheit 9/11.

edit: Hey, I just saw your tag...
