Part of the reason I had a hard time making a list is because when you look at the Simpsons' finest seasons, it's just a Symphony of Comedic Genius, and all the characters are important to the non-stop humor in their own ways (save maybe Lisa/Marge who set up humor/act as foils more than they are a source of humor themselves). Basically, everyone's good; which is why I generally prefer to rank episodes, but I'm down with any Simpsons ranking that lets me think back on the show's glory days.
