It's pretty sad when you have a game console in your hands with a bigger screen than your phone, and have to switch to that phone to watch a video.

YouTube on phones is much, MUCH better than on consoles, lol. Especially the Switch.

I could have sworn there was an app for Switch 1. Was it not backwards compatible?

YT has been on every Nintendo console since the Wii. The news here is that it took them over 6 months to get it going on S2.

I prefer using phone or tablet, though I guess some people prefer playing games while running the walkthrough in a small screen picture-in-picture. Because it supports PIP, right?

Still don't get the point of having stuff like Youtube on a console, I have a laptop + phone for that.

I use YouTube on my consoles pretty often. Sometimes I want to watch engine teardowns or police bodycam videos on a big screen, especially if they're longer videos. Being able to control YouTube from my tablet while it's playing on the tv frees up the smaller screen for doomscrolling.
