Youtube rolled out another useless, needless, terrible UI update

Look at this shit, what is this?

These "thumbnails" are HUGE. There's 3 videos and 5 shorts taking up all real estate of the entire page. Three videos on the entire page!

How does Youtube keep churning out these idiotic redesigns? I know they have like 5000 UI developers on payroll, but do they not know you can just fire them instead of endlessly a/b testing bullshit?

Imagine being a video platform and a designer walks up to you and says "you know instead of pushing like 18 videos on the frontpage above the fold how about we just do 3", how do you not say "how about I shove this foot up your ass, you fucking idiot".

Scrolling through this feed is insane, it's an assault on the senses to see so many huge images flash by and they all autoplay when you mouse over.

I just want to say I absolutely hate this guy and his "funny" videos:

He keeps getting recommended because I watch other fitness/lifestyle stuff. Ugh.

I have gotten over most stupid decisions and UI changes that Youtube has done over the years, but removing the ability to see the like/dislike ratio was by far the worst thing they ever done, and even more scummy that they refused to bring it back after so much demand.

Damn you're right. Thumbnails are ginormous now. It would be nice if they gave options to customize everything.

Youtube is having a problem with visual pollution. There are no feedback, just changes and you better accept.

I don't know that guy but this dude is pretty hilarious:

But even more funny was when this guy was talking shit about him about him on a daily basis:

Maybe it will help get rid of the terrible 'youtube face' which in part exists because thumbnails are so small.

Freetube Windows app, you get just your subscriptions without some dumb San Francisco algorithm deciding what's good for you and what isn't, no ads, and great old-school interface without modern UI bullshit aimed at tricking morons. You can also subscribe without using a google account and backup your subscriptions which for me is the best part

What the... you have the exact same videos recommended/subscribed as I do. 👀

Earlier it gave me 2 huge videos and blank spaces and they wouldn't refresh and change to something I might actually want to see.

All I care about is that I found an extension that allows me to download videos again after YT blocked off my previous ones. I'm thinking it won't last long though.

I tried alternative video spaces like Rumble but there's just not enough user database. YT has decades of contents' worth and it's hard to find other places that offer this much.

They have a team of UX designers who work with UX researchers.

Unfortunately UX research often ends up creating designs that are hated by nerds like us who want the maximum amount of info on screen at once.

My thumbnails are still their normal size, and I used the ol' uBlock element zapper to get rid of the stupid SHORTS section in my Subscriptions page (ffs there's a Shorts button right above Subscriptions anyway ya fuckin' doomscrollin' weirdos)

I'm reasonably happy with the current state of my YouTube.

Is this why I can't watch embedded youtube vids for the past few weeks on GAF anymore?

I just get error pages and have to 'watch on youtube'

I hate youtube shorts, I always fall into a doom scroll for like 10 minutes with them. On my desktop computer of all things, and I am not into tik toks or insta.

It's dark tactics brain rot.

Yesterday, youtube rolled out this UI bug for me.
Here is the fix, just add it to the Ublock Origin cutom filters.
You can change the number of rows. I have it at 6.

youtube.com##ytd-rich-grid-row, #contents.ytd-rich-grid-row:style(display:contents !important;)

youtube.com##ytd-rich-grid-renderer, html:style(--ytd-rich-grid-items-per-row: 7 !important;)

youtube.com##ytd-rich-grid-renderer, html:style(--ytd-rich-grid-posts-per-row: 7 !important;)

Why do companies do this? Are they bored? Or have teams of people doing fuck all and piss around with things like UI to justify their jobs?

Happened at work a few months ago, MS updated Outlook to some god-awful new UI, it was so bad, i made my IT dept force us back to Outlook Classic.

YouTube looks like your permanently zoomed in 200%.

Fuck me, i wasted 30 sec yesterday trying to understand if i zoomed the desktop by mistake but it was just yt being trash as usual.

Unfortunately this didn't work for me, even with ) appended to the end of each line. But I found a post on Reddit which ended up doing the trick:

I've literally just found out this, AI Slop and Brain Rot have Wikipedia articles.
Yeah it's actually a worrying trend. People are also getting dumber and dumber because of it. I fear for the younger generation. I am not into the brainrot shit and AI slop luckily. And people should stop calling it AI. It's basically just LLM with prompts to give it there is literally no intelligence.

Also software, hardware etc is just getting worse. Every new version of something is somehow worse than the previous versions with less features
