Youtube Vanced has been discontinued

The most popular adless Youtube client for Android has been discontinued.

I personally use NewPipe, but Vanced was great to keep the account synchronized.

that is extremely sad, I use Vanced and it's so much better than the original app, not only because of the ad block but also because the vanced specific options adding a lot of great QOL enhancements

edit: apparently some now say the souce code was made public, meaning people can keep it alive without Google being able to do anything really.

the current build will be good for a year or two as well, so I hope some alternative versions will be worked on soon

I'm pretty sure Google will screw it asap changing something in the service, so it probably won't last even weeks.

maybe. we'll see, but if it was that easy they wouldn't have had a need for a C&D and could have just blocked it and other apps like it.
so I bet it isn't as easy as that

YouTube, but it blocks ads, allows you to minimise the player and keep audio playing, allows playback when the screen is off, shows dislikes, has a true black theme for OLED screens, etc.

Just a better version of the YouTube App all round.
So basically an additional app of which i could run YT of my smartphone with all the benefits you depicted.

Vanced still provides features and customisation that normal YouTube has though. The true black theme and dislikes bar being the obvious two right now.
Nah, especially considering their content policies these days, I'd never go out of my way to give them a dollar.
I will rather use those money on disney+ and hulu+. much better, than youtube with no ads. Plus 3rd party can help me download those videos.
Shame, guess I will have to use the browser version instead.

I'd rather pay for AOL again.
OKAY OKAY I GET IT

I'll keep paying tho tkx

So basically YouTube Premium but without paying? Bro, I know money's tight, etc. but have some decency.

Considering youtube premium costs more per month that most full fledged streaming services...

I think most people would feel better paying it if it was £4.99 a month but Google want £11.99 to essentially remove adds and give you a feature that Google saw thirdparty apps doing for free, and then "borrowed" the idea and say "this is now a premium feature" with off screen playback.

We can't all get the student rates.

Damn that sucks, really like vanced. Thankfully they said the currently downloaded version should probably keep working for around 2 years.

Sad but understandable. Its literally a hacked version of the official app unlike Newpipe.

Surprised it took them so long honestly.
