PSP version for me!
PSP version for me!
dark10x said:The PC version is only available in Japanese AFAIK. The reading difficulty was moderate, I'd say (though I'm not expert). I got hung up on a few dialog boxes here and there, but it wasn't too difficult to read. I'm sure ferricide would classify it as easy reading, though, so it really depends on your own level.
I also had the chance to play Eiyuu Densetsu VI (I do not have this game, however) and found the dialog to be much more difficult to read, for some reason. I'd go in and out of understand what was being said and found it quite frustrating. Too many unfamiliar characters for me at this point.
I enjoyed playing Ys VI on the PC. The visuals were absolutely beautiful and clean. I still have a few screenshots even...
Nice high resolution art + a bit o' Engrish.

Nice tower in the same town...

Blur on the PC?! OK OK, that was impressive back in 03...

I just hope they kept the texture resolution the same on PS2, as that really is what makes the game look so nice.

Can anyone help Dark and I out and tell us whether Konami will port the PC version? Don't get me wrong....I'm glad the PS2 version is coming out and everything, but the PS2 is not a machine I can take to work, while a laptop is![]()

"Original music composed specifically for the PS2 version of the game."

In addition if you take a look at the screen shots it is also noticeable that the original 2D character sprites have in fact been replaced with lifeless polygon characters. Gotta love those American localization teams.....

ferricide said:personally i think the era of SD sprites is over, with a fucking bullet. good move on konami's part, IMO, in that regard.
There's no "localization team". The game's being developed by Konami Digital in America, then localized for Japan. The PS2/PSP games are being made with the west in mind first, aquiring it was part of Konami's plan to become more RPG focused in western markets.segatavis said:AFAIK, this change was done for the PS2 Japanese version as well, not by an American localization team, although the change was done with western gamers in mind...
I'm guessing the PS2 polygon models were more to appease SCEA than anything, especially given that the PSP game retains the original PC sprites.segatavis said:I was thinking of a quote out of the IGN article: "Konami also had to go back and replace the 2D sprites with 3D polygons to make the game more acceptable in the west." Yah, it would be more acceptable to me with sprites...
I'm actually surprised Microsoft didn't swoop in to ally with Falcom for Xbox. It would've helped immensly in Japan, Ys VI PC actually outsold Xbox there.Shaheed79 said:Falcom is one of my favorite Eastern developers I was hoping this gen that a big Japanese publisher would pick them up so they could make Console and Handheld versions of games like Arcturus and my favorite Zwei!! in the west.
well, yeah, i'm definitely not against 2D games, or 2D artwork. i just think SD sprites are fucking archaic and unnecessary. at least the NIS games have an overriding SD aesthetic, as not terribly appealing as i find it in either concept or practice. but the ys series has always had full-fledged anime style artwork. there's no reason to reduce that into cute little bobbleheads anymore.lachesis said:The thing about PS2 version's 3d character is... you don't really get to see much of Adol either. I mean, SD ish sprite is yes, it is outdated, but at least it has some distinct charm to it. And as for Ys6's Adol animation was quite smooth and I had no complaints regarding stiffyness that are found. Personal pref, yes, and I would be really sad if the days of sprites are all over. We could use good sprite based game now and then, such as Castlevania.

dude, that would be great. there has been a distinct lack of actual human-proportion sprites in RPGs. suikoden is one of the series that actually took it and ran with it. also phantasy star.duckroll said:That's true! Let's lobby for Falcom to have hi-res 2D sprites in detailed fullsize form in Ys7!![]()

They're still using the small portrait size for both the small and large portraits, and scaling it up for the larger one. Ick. Yuck. Bleh. Puke.
