Falcom has announced Ys X: Proud Nordics, a significantly upgraded version of Ys X: Nordics, featuring a new story, new setting, and numerous new elements. It will launch in 2025 in Japan. Platforms were not announced.

Visit the teaser website here.

Get the first details below.
“With pride in our hearts, set off on a new adventure!!”

Ys X: Proud Nordics will launch in 2025 in Japan as a significantly upgraded version of the action RPG Ys X: Nordics, featuring a new story, new settings for adventure, and numerous new elements.

Aland Island is a massive island located to the north of Obelia Gulf. In the midst of battling the immortal creatures known as Griegr, the red-haired adventurer Adol and the pirate princess Karja visit the island and encounter countless ruins on its unexplored lands.

What happened on this island…?

An encounter with another “Mana user” leads Adol and his companions on an unknown adventure…

In addition to the exhilarating offensive and defensive “Cross Actions” between Adol and Karja, Ys X: Proud Nordics introduces new “Mana Actions” along with a vast map of Aland Island and exploration areas! There is also plenty of additional content, including new bosses, Mana Ride races, and arena battles where formidable foes await.

Please look forward to a new Ys story, reborn as Ys X: Proud Nordics!

Åland island? Finland mentioned!

Edit: Also didn't have the chance to buy this yet. Hopefully it will be DLC and not a separate SKU.

An upgraded version... With a new story? I'm a bit confused here.
So they mean they just added content or also changed some of what was already there?

I'm mildly curious because this was a game I was somewhat anticipating, but then the demo convinced me it wasn't really my cup of tea (not at its price anyway).

if this is one of those “should’ve been DLC but we’re selling it as a separate full priced game” things then Falcom can eat shit

What a shitty ambiguous announcement.. New history/new game? or an upgraded X Nordics? Just greed... instead of a $15 dlc it is now a full priced game? What is it?

Funny they decide to do this with this game instead of one of the good ones. First Ys I dropped before finishing; or seeing any of the "big plot reveals".

Not really surprised, Ys X was considerably worse than IX, let alone VIII. It was ok-ish, but disappointing considering what it could have been. Still, ok isn't bad, and I will buy this version (though hopefully as a DLC upgrade).

hopefully this is DLC in the West because otherwise it’s really insulting for them to announce this only 2 months after the game released here

a full price re-release announced right after the original was localized definitely won’t do Falcom any favors in their efforts to build up an audience in the West

edit: the comments on the Gematsu article reflect this as well

Cores, shaders and BIOS oh my!
I mean, they better give you an update/dlc option, this isn't 199X to have different revisions as full new products (even if discounted, even if supposedly AAA huge publisher Square botched it similarly with DQXI relatively recently). And they've yet to contact Durante regarding a PC version. We'll see.

Yes! So glad I waited. Hope this is their Y'x X: Golden.

Honestly, a big quality bump is just what this game needed to make my rotation.

These games are good, but just below the level needed for me to play them, so if they start iterating on each game and improving them after launch this just may become something I buy at full price. If you already bought it, that sucks because of the pricing structure, but you are arguing against them improving the game and I don't approve of that my bros.

Are there big improvements beyond the added area and its dungeons/story/whatever? It doesn't mention specifics outside that even though the initial wording proclaims that. Edit: I guess those "mana actions" specials are it? I was gearing for a more robust combat system/feel/flow etc. overall.

Stealing a reddit comment:

"Bruh I got Atlus'd by Falcom."

This isn't unheard of from modern Falcom. When Ys VIII was ported to PS4, Falcom added a whole new dungeon just for Dana. Similar case for Tokyo Xanadu, although it saw much more new content and was also rebranded as Tokyo Xandu eX+. I agree it has been a while since Falcom's done this, and more importantly for us, this is the first time that the west has gotten the base version of the game.

I had Ys X coming up in my queue but, uh, given the circumstances, I think I might wait.

I wonder what NISA thinks about this. Did they know?

If not, they have been stabbed in the back basically, and just around holiday season. Lot of people saying that now they will wait for the enhanced version instead of buying the normal version.

Yup it must suck for them if they weren't aware.
It's still full price in most places too, I think even people who are interested in buying this version will wait for a heavy discount now.

This needs to be some kind of free/discounted update or launched at a reduced price otherwise that's just so diabolical even ATLUS would blush.
sadly I doubt it will be, the PS5 versions of Cold Steel III & IV + Ys VIII & IX were full priced with zero discount to owners of the PS4 versions (just like how Atlus handles things)

edit: but at least those weren’t announced only ~2 months after the ‘old’ version released in the West

Even knowing I wasn't going to care much for this installment, I broke down and grabbed Ys X a few weeks ago, just out of longstanding affection for the franchise. For the moment, this announcement feels kinda crap, especially if there's ultimately no means to DLC the upcoming content into the existing game. In all honesty, though, if there's not much more enticing than Ys X but with a new area to explore (regarless of size), I'm not sure how much the expansion really interests me.
