ZeniMax Union Responds to Microsoft Canceling Unannounced MMO: 'A Future Has Been Stolen From Us'

Unions are completely useless in this day and age as we see.

In fact I didn't know this - wouldn't be surprised if MS targeted this project to gut the union.

Looks like Blackbird may have been canceled for more Fallout.

its very clear when people spend all these years pretending they are working and they don't have anything to show for it with a potential to be released soon, then obviously they are not good at their job.

Dude, come on bro, this is your head canon. Being cancelled by Microsoft does not mean your games was shit. It just means it was Tuesday. Nobody should trust Microsoft. This is the lesson.

"Screw the workers" is not a message I can get behind. I dislike unions and greedy pricks just as much as the next guy but I have a feeling at least as good as yours that Zenimax was on track for mild success with this mmo and were completely blindsided.

I do completely agree with your 2nd half but like, it seems contradictory to the first half, lol. I guess if you hate "crybabies" you could try to make this fit but ffs just because someone brings another reason to light as to why we should hate MS doesn't make them crybabies. Again it just makes it Tuesday.

Going around the net the top rated comments I see are usually "Sony too!" which is of course absolutely not the case at this scale. I don't know where to start with getting the community on the right page here. "Sony too!" and "fuck crybaby game makers" is not the message that we should take from this but I'm apparently powerless to stop it.
On top of what Zacfoldor Zacfoldor said, even top studios like Naughty dogs or Santa Monica canceled games before. Making games is hard, and it is often external reasons that end games, like lack of funding.
On the other side, I hope MS also eats shit and keeps on losing more money till they fire these idiots at the management that allowed things to go this bad. Who the fuck hires a temporary worker on the project for 1 year or 1.5 years and then tells them your contract is over, goodbye, mid-way while working on the project?

How many studios do you want to kill for your stupidity? As if this developer will pour in his passion and actually work on a project from his heart when he knows well in advance he is going to be fired regardless if he puts all of his energy and power on the project or not.
This part I do agree with.

I'm not going to wax poetically over the loss of a game I haven't seen anything off. That the Philster enjoyed playing an early version means less then nothing.

Did they own the future? How could they have something stolen that they never owned. You are not guaranteed anything in life.

Who would want to make a game with people so entitled they think they are owed perpetual employment.

This specific union is less than a year old.

The CWA was the big one who endorsed the deal. There was another one as well, but those ones cried about Microsoft fucking them over after the fact.

Is it really hard to understand why they're upset that something they worked on for years just got cancelled after their boss apparently loved it so much they had to take the controller away from him?
That he liked it at the time is irrelevant, who knows what really happened, an MMO is hard to pull off and expensive to run. We don't have enough information to know much of anything.

ESO was alright, I liked Molag Bal, Vivec, and especially getting to meet Sotha Sil. And how everything is voiced but would have prefer it so much more if it was more like Skyrim basically how Fallout 76 was to Fallout 4. So I'm not upset about this and I still see WoW as the best MMORPG by far.

People can still be understandably upset about it. He loved it in March and cancelled it in July. I doubt the issue was quality, and this team knows how to build an MMO. This was most likely similar to what happened at Naughty Dog. The cost of continued development and post launch support is not one Microsoft wanted to take on.

Who remembers when these unions were in favour of the acquisition?

The turkeys that voted for Christmas are now crying after being deep fried.

The union assumed at the time a company like MS would be rubber stamping anything they do. So no matter how crappy the product is, overbudget, or takes a gazillion years to come to come out, MS would be like a broken ATM spewing out money like a giant cash grab. And in a way, it's a natural way of thinking at face value. If someone drives up to a mansion, the assumption is the guy is rich and will pay for anything without caring. But they forget the guy got rich because he's good with his money and will cut back on dumb shit when it's not worth paying for. Just because a guy or company is loaded doesn't mean they mindlessly pay for the most costly things in the world forever.

And with the way some of these MS projects have gone on for 5-8 years with nothing to show but a trailer, I'd re-evaluate their value too.

What union members dont realize is even if there's company/worker agreements they can still get rid of you if they want. It's just harder to do and will cost more money to get rid of them. But if management wants to push it through, they'll figure out a way.

If unions were 100% job protectors you'd never have one union member losing a job in history.

Imagine the size of the turd your game was becoming for the company that greenlit Fallout 76, to cancel it.
