ZERO gamecube game releases for April

MightyHedgehog said:
Just curious, but how many confirmed titles are slated for release on the GC this year? Versus, say, the PS2 and XBOX?

There's probably 50 or 60 more releases, but that will probably go up slightly as more third parties announce multiplatform games, similar to that new Crash Racing game.

:lol and there is actually a dreamcast release this month, namely trizeal. i suppose that's an unfair us-to-japan comparision, but still: not so good for the gamecube nintendo.

It's obvious that Nintendo is way too concentred on NDS to care about developing for GameCube... It's like The Cranberries once said: Everybody else is doing it, so why can't we? But in that case, it's more like Everybody else is not doing it, so can't we stop?

Meanwhile in Japan, GameCube gets Fire Emblem and Home Land in April. Y'know, viable original role playing games from respected developers rather than a cheapo substandard Naomi shooter from a company about to go bottom up.

fire emblem and homeland look just as cheapo as trizeal. :/

(and while both fire emblem and trizeal are dated and simplistic by genre standards, both look like good fun.)

IGN poses the same question to George Harrison:

This week's question: According to retail release lists, PS2 and Xbox have about 20 games apiece coming out -- many of them top-quality efforts -- in April. Oppositely, GameCube owners will only see a single new release for the month. The question is, how do you hope to maintain a GameCube audience if you don't release new games on a consistent basis?

George Harrison, senior vice President of marketing, Nintendo of America: From the retail lists we've seen, several of the triple-A titles you mention launching on other systems are being carried over from late Q4 of last year as titles that didn't quite make it in time for the holiday season. This kind of spill-over is natural in Q1 and has definitely placed a high number of titles on the calendar for some systems in April.

Looking ahead towards early summer, Nintendo GameCube fans will soon get their hands on Geist, Nintendo Pennant Chase Baseball, Killer 7, Rainbow Six: Lockdown, Medal of Honor: European Assault, Batman Begins, Fantastic Four, and more. And that's just in the month of June alone. So don't let the month of April fool you -- there are plenty of Nintendo GameCube hits to fill your gameplay calendars between now and this holiday season as fans anxiously count the days until the next Legend of Zelda hits store shelves. Looking at the complete 2005 calendar, Nintendo GameCube has over 60 titles set to ship from Nintendo and all major publishers this year alone.

The late Q1 and early Q2 periods are not traditionally the busiest time for launching new titles. But periods of slow product release are nothing new for the games industry. Though we may not have many Nintendo GameCube products on the horizon for April, we do have a healthy selection of new handheld products for the Nintendo DS and Game Boy Advance, including Polarium, which is a triple-A puzzle title soon to be used in the same sentence as Tetris around the world.

Wasn't 2005 supposed to be the year of the gamecube? :lol

Maybe in your anti-dreams :lol :lol :lol
2005 was always meant as The Year of The Playstation, just like 2001, 2002, 2003 and 2004.

Dreamcast Tri-Zeal? Certainly not.

Fire Emblem's intro alone likely cost more than Tri-Zeal's R&D across both Naomi and DC.

Gamecube is dead, bub.

April: 0
May: 3
June: 7 (respectable I suppose)
July: 2
August: 2
September: 0
October: 1
November: 3
December: 1

6 First party titles
13 third party

And this console is supposed to survive until the Revolution in 2006?

Yeah after Zelda there isn't anything for the cube. I really doubt it'll be out fall 2006 like most people do for that reason. Spring 2006 makes more sense. Though reggie said E3 won't be revolution's coming out party... Maybe SpaceWorld 2005?

perhaps you've mistaken my reference to an amusing, superficial coincidence for an argument that the gamecube is deader than the dreamcast.

and i'd forgotten about those slick cel-shaded cg sequences. they might have saved a little of that for the actual game. :/

No need, George Harrison already did it for ya:

We NEED that pic of Mario trying to put out a huge forest fire with his waterpack. Goddamn, I can't seem to find it anywhere....

What do you expect him to say?

George Harrison, senior vice President of marketing, Nintendo of America: ALRIGHT, I GET IT MATT YOU FACIAL VAGINA WEARING COCKSUCKER!!!! WE HAVE NO FUCKING GAMES ON THE GAMECUBE BECAUSE WE SUCK!!! ARE YOU HAPPY NOW? WE FUCKED UP!!!! WE FUCKING FUCKED UP WITH OUR PURPLE CONSOLE!!! HERE LET ME SHOVE AN XBOX UP YOUR ASS SINCE YOU LIKE IT SO MUCH!!! HOW DOES THAT FEEL MOTHERFUCKER?

Obviously, not a professional response.

George gave the best answer he could.

And I don't see the point of a thread like this as anything besides flame bait--only a dummy would think that the GC is not on its final legs in the US. Thankfully this is nowhere near as drastic a drop off as it was on the N64.

That would have kicked ass tho.

Now would be a great time to release that puzzle collection they made for Japan.

I still have no idea why they never released it in the US.

Who cares? All you need is Zelda. You should be happy, because by the time it comes out the system will be like $20.

This entire year is basically Zelda and Resident Evil 4.

Uh, not really.

This year Cube gets Zelda, RE4, Fire Emblem, Advance Wars, and some other stuff.

In 2000 N64 got Perfect Dark, Zelda: MM, Orge Battle 64, Excitebike 64, Bomberman 64 2, Banjo Tooie, and others.

I'd say N64 was at least as good as Gamecube at this point in their lifecycles, maybe better.

Thats the spirit!

I don't even have a Gamecube I'm just saying, if you are a PS2 or XBox owner wouldn't you be glad to pay a low price for a decent system with Zelda coming out and a GOTY candidate in RE4? You know unless you are so completely up your ass biased enough not to recognize Zelda or RE 4 as great games/franchises.

I lost my interest in Zelda after Wind Waker. That game was really bad. And I'll get RE4 for PS2, thank you.

It's a great opportunity to go back and re-appreciate previously released mediocre Nintendo content!

MARIO PARTY 6 HERE I CUM

Well I don't think anyone can dispute Donkey Konga 2, Pennant Chase Baseball, and Geist are going to be Game of the Year candidates this year and are going to be some of the top games this generation!

Hate to say it, but GameCube is dead.

At least there'll be Zelda and Mario Kart for those who stuck around for the end of the party.
