ZERO gamecube game releases for April

Hollywood said:
Well I don't think anyone can dispute Donkey Konga 2, Pennant Chase Baseball, and Geist are going to be Game of the Year candidates this year and are going to be some of the top games this generation!

This is GAF, if it's triple A or has been hyped as if it is a triple A game, it's not worth listing. Most posters think that RE4 is the only thing that came out on the GC thus far this year by that reasoning.

This week's question: According to retail release lists, PS2 and Xbox have about 20 games apiece coming out -- many of them top-quality efforts -- in April. Oppositely, GameCube owners will only see a single new release for the month. The question is, how do you hope to maintain a GameCube audience if you don't release new games on a consistent basis?

George Harrison, senior vice President of marketing, Nintendo of America: ALRIGHT, I GET IT MATT YOU FACIAL VAGINA WEARING COCKSUCKER!!!! WE HAVE NO FUCKING GAMES ON THE GAMECUBE BECAUSE WE SUCK!!! ARE YOU HAPPY NOW? WE FUCKED UP!!!! WE FUCKING FUCKED UP WITH OUR PURPLE CONSOLE!!! HERE LET ME SHOVE AN XBOX UP YOUR ASS SINCE YOU LIKE IT SO MUCH!!! HOW DOES THAT FEEL MOTHERFUCKER?

Obviously, not a professional response.
It would have better than a totally half-ass dodge (the spillover comment is basically an admission of failure) coupled with an outright lie (polarium will be the new Tetris).

I'm almost offended by the polarium comment. Comparing it to Tetris... shameful.

gamecube is almost at the $40 used price... once there RE4, RE1, RE0 will be mine along with the new zelda... that was my buying point with the dreamcast and I way got my $$$'s worth.

When was another Mario Kart confirmed for GC? I know there's that Namco arcade version, but was it officially confirmed for GC? If so, source.

Time to start buy exclusives. Nintendo can not rely on 1st party, never could. Even during Nintendo best time, SNES, they only accounted for 35% of sales on the console.

It never was. I don't know what these people who say its coming out are on.

not much of a spin can be put on this one. What happened to my Gamecube :<

Nope. I was worried for the Box, but it seems the Cube is winning the entropy battle handily. I still have PM2 to play, but eh.

I can't believe NOA doesn't take it upon themselves to bring over more titles from Japan, for any of their systems. How can you sell systems with no games? Freaking unbelievible...

Meanwhile in Japan, GameCube gets Fire Emblem and Home Land in April. Y'know, viable original role playing games from respected developers rather than a cheapo substandard Naomi shooter from a company about to go bottom up.

I know its hard to take, but a glass of cyanide may help.

If Nintendo posts a profit for the month of April, that will keep me happy.

yes, that was sarcasm

yeah, just keep holding out hope for Zelda.. the last great hurah. A month before release it will be moved to Xenon, come out a year later and have no noticible upgrades.

yeah, Im still bitter.

It was funnier before the edit! :p

I really like it when these 'anti-nintendo' fanboys gather around in these topics and show how much they care if systems/games they don’t own or care about are not doing well. Talk about insecurity. It puts everything in perspective when they bash Nintendo fans for 'blindly following a company' or 'obsesses with consoles and not games' or whatever.

Man, I was so fucking pissed about that. Hell, it can be argued that it was downgraded, with the addition of the terrible English VA (at least with Japanese VA it sounds natural even though it might be bad).

Gamecube is dead, bub.

April: 0
May: 3
June: 7 (respectable I suppose)
July: 2
August: 2
September: 0
October: 1
November: 3
December: 1

6 First party titles
13 third party

damn, that's fucked up. would suck to be GCN only gamer, holy shit.

Yea and look at the stellar releases so far

1. Resident Evil 4 GC Capcom 95.9%
2. MVP Baseball 2005 GC EA Sports 87.6%
3. NBA Street V3 GC EA Sports Big 87.3%
4. Fight Night Round 2 GC EA Sports 85.5%
5. TimeSplitters: Future Perfect GC EA Games 83.6%
6. Donkey Kong Jungle Beat GC Nintendo 82.2%
7. Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Chaos Theory GC 79.8%
8. Mortal Kombat: Deception GC Midway 76.1%
9. Star Fox: Assault GC Nintendo 73.0%
10. Judge Dredd: Dredd Versus Death GC Evolved Games 62.8%
11. Winnie the Pooh's Rumbly Tumbly Adventure GC Ubisoft 62.5%
12. FIFA Street GC EA Sports Big 60.2%
13. Virtua Quest GC Sega 51.9%
14. Dragon Ball Z: Sagas GC Atari 48.6%
15. TMNT: Mutant Melee GC Konami 48.3%

Other than RE4 got the EA sports contingent and a couple of OK to good games.

At this rate I wouldnt be surprised for the GCN to be under 1,000,000 consoles sold in the US until the Holidays.

Two very important questions have to be answered:

1) Are we truely expected to believe that Revolution will arrive next year?

2) Where's Reggie? I'd like to see him spin this.

we do have a healthy selection of new handheld products for the Nintendo DS and Game Boy Advance, including Polarium, which is a triple-A puzzle title soon to be used in the same sentence as Tetris around the world.

One possible sentence is, "there's no way in hell Polarium is anywhere near as good as Tetris."

Those release title numbers don't look so hot. Surely, it's not fair, but this is what the game industry is, completely full of shit. I have a hard time believing money cannot be made on the GC this year. The day third parties stop acting like fanboys on the playground, it would put a smile on my face.

Its sad really. The GC is really dead. But IMO this gen is also just as dead. Very few upcoming games to be interested in.

And I am seeing more mediocrity than what was on the NES. I am having a hard time finding titles that keep me awake let alone play for an hour.

Out of those 15 games on the GC only a couple are worth owning, and both of the are Nintendo titles. :/

If by dead you mean there are so many good titles coming out that I can't find time to play them, then I agree.

That's pretty crazy to say considering the PS2 could be on track to having the best year of any system this gen.

I am mainly an RPG fan and things have really dried up as far as they go. I am sick of rehashed game with little to no new gameplay elements. I am not even sure I want Zelda GC. :/

Surely, it's not fair

It's business. You look at the third parties that made money on N64 and you can see what is happening here. Acclaim no longer exists, and Xbox / Xbox 2 is much nicer target for Activision since they publish PC games and can port between the two. On top of that, Nintendo has been so slow to react to online gaming that third parties seemed to have stopped caring.

You're an RPG fan and you think this gen is dead?

FFXII
Grandia 3
Stella Deus
DDS2
Radiata Stories
Romancing Saga
DQ8
Atelier Iris 1 and 2
KH2
Namco x Capcom
Tales of Legendia
Wild ARMS 4
Jade Empire
Fire Emblem

I'm probably forgetting alot too.

Outside of Namco vs Capcom, Fire Emblem and FFXII(not sure about this one, but I heard there will be a lot of changes in gameplay so I will ateast give it a try).

Nintendo of America: From the retail lists we've seen, several of the triple-A titles you mention launching on other systems are being carried over from late Q4 of last year as titles that didn't quite make it in time for the holiday season. This kind of spill-over is natural in Q1 and has definitely placed a high number of titles on the calendar for some systems in April.
Sounds more like "Other systems had so much shit good and bad it got backlogged. But the GC is on a fiber free diet" Or something

Agreed. GameCube's clearly in decline but at the same time it's been a natural decline extending about 2 years now. And unlike what anti-Nintendo pundits have been claiming as far back as 2003, major publishers haven't and don't be looking to drop support. This is where the misguided Dreamcast associations go awry, looking at GameCube's expected 2005 release list alone shoots really down that sort of thinking…

*JP release

...109 release in a year (and this is pre-E3, where we'll inevitably see new announcements) isn't all that bad, in fact that's more releases than N64 saw at it's height. And unlike Xbox, there looks to be a healthy 1st party lineup in addition to 3rd party ports. Like clockwork GameCube's demise gets overblown by the usual suspects. And they'll be saying the same thing this time next year when GameCube's still seeing new releases.

Some of that stuff hasn't been confirmed...

for example, I wouldn't be surprised to see some of the Capcom retro stuff end up only on PS2...

I think Odama has been cancelled :( Probably not the last either. That's the problem with these Nintendo lists I've noticed. They rarely approxiamate what happens. Very optimistic, though.

The only unconfirmed titles would be the Capcom and MMX Collections... which are still unconfirmed for any platform actually. And no doubt they'll see release on all 3 consoles, especially given that Capcom already has working PS1, SNES and CPS/CPS2 emulators running for them. I really don't doubt either coming to GameCube though after how well MMAC performed (which was the reason these collections were greenlighted).

Nope, that was an April Fool's joke on Vivarium's part (Kodama DS).
