Super Smash Bros. for 3DS and Wii U Thread 5: Yarning for Yoshi

Ridley-chan~

Guys, it's not the size that matters, it's how much I really don't care about Ridley.

I mean, Ridley has absolutely no character whatsoever. As far as the games have portrayed him, he's just a mindless boss character. He's not even the most important villain in those games.

I know it's about taste and whatnot, but really? Ridley? Not sure where all this comes from.

I think it will be very disappointing if Metroid didn't get another character. I would even be happy if they just split off zero suit as an alt instead of the smash switch. It's hard to get good with someone who you rarely get to use.
Select Samus. Hold Z till you select a stage. You'll start off as ZSS.

Yes, that's definitely the reasn cause the game is for only you and personality is the most important part of a character to be chosen for Smash.

You know who deserves a second rep? Mr. Game and Watch. There's like over 60 games and yet only one rep. That's despicable.

With the exception of captain falcon, and the 'retro' characters (specifically rob, G&W is debatable), every character has had a personality or major presence in their respective franchise. Wolf, at least, has lines of dialogue and converses with fox and falco. Ridley just shows up and fights. That said, I wouldn't discount him entirely, but if we're basing it off that, I agree.

I guess Sakurai should remove every Fire Emblem and Star Fox character from Smash Bros, then, since I don't care about these two franchises.

He should also remove Mr. Game & Watch, ROB, Captain Falcon and even Samus, because they also have no personality whatsoever.

They even took liberties on the design of Mr. Game & Watch with him having a big nose and no other features.

This is legit.

Pretty much how I feel. I mean, the boss fights he provides are fun and all, but I just...don't...really care for him and don't see the appeal (ala Ghirahim).

I mean, you know, respect and all. Just don't see it.

I wonder if it would be possible to not get Ridley mentioned once in one of these threads in 24 hours. Would be an interesting experiment.

Nah.

This thread made me realise how bizarre Ridley's body build is. Especially his neck, what the hell. I played all Metroids several times and never actually thought about it.

BTW, I just had a thought - why the hell are there absolutely no references to Eternal Darkness in the series? Melee OK, I understand, but Brawl? Brawl had a ton of trophies and then another few tons of stickers yet nothing, the game is not mentioned at all, nowhere throughout the whole thing. I mean, Nintendo owns all the rights to ED, right? I finally got around to playing the game after so long, I finished it today and thought how cool it would be to at least get a Pious Augustus trophy in SSB4. It's a freakishly great design, I loved it and he instantly became one of my fav villains ever. I'd love for the game to be represented in at least some way in SSB4.

Let's start now.
I wonder how much longer until we see more of the Palutena's Temple stage, considering we only got a glimpse of it last Wed. Also, I really want some Paper Mario music to make it in.

We should get a Luigi's Mansion rep. King Boo perhaps? Or is he too big?
I could see him working as a stage hazard in the LM stage. Not sure how he could work as an Assist Trophy, though I welcome the ideas.

I hope the day we actually get everyone who lurks this thread to agree to a 24 hour no Ridley talk the very next day Ridley is confirmed playable/assist/hazard

It's listed in the Chronicles for Brawl. Baby steps! ;)

I was thinking about a playable rep. I mean, we already have floating balls in the series, so I think King Boo could work.

So I wondered if ED was popular enough in Japan to even have one bit of fanart. The answer it yes:

(No, it's not just the one, but I'm not going to image spam. There were cute versions of all the ancients!)

I don't understand the people that say "I wanna see Ridley deconfirmed just so I can salt my fries, lul". We have already seen that during the Melee and Brawl days. It is nothing new. The orgasmic explosion of jittery madness that would occur if Ridley is announced would be a fresher experience to behold.

I'm done with Ridley speak for now.

I would honestly like to see Luigi's Final Smash be changed to this. Just imagine, he pulls out the Poltergust 5000 and just unleashes King Boo and maybe incorporate the Dark Moon pieces. I would love to see any move of Luigi's use the Poltergust. Plus it's a much better final smash then his current one.

So how many characters do you guys think will be on the final roster? 64 had 12, Melee had 25, and Brawl had 35, so I think it's logical that their will be at least 40 characters in the game, maybe up to 44. Sakurai seems intent on keeping as many veterans as possible, and only 5 players were cut in the transition from Melee to Brawl.

So if Sakurai cuts something like 7 fighters in the transition from Brawl to 3DS/Wii U, that means that their will be around 28 veterans. 4 newcomers have been announced so far, and I think it's highly likely that at least 8 more will be revealed, which would bring the total to 40.

Sakurai would probably like to have the roster selection screen be rectangular like in Brawl's, and adding another row to Brawl's roster would bring the total to 44 characters, plus one space to select a random character.

TL,DR: I think that their will be around 28 veterans and 12 to 16 newcomers.

Mario used F.L.U.D.D. literally once in his entire lifetime, and it's being represented in Smash as a primary move?

Why? Seriously.

My only gripe with FLUDD is that it is indirectly responsible for taking away Mario's drill kick dair from 64 & Melee and that the Galaxy spin could have been both a better spin move for Mario and given us something similar to Brawl Fox's aerial Reflector stalling (one of the coolest things ever).

Edit: I say 45 to 48 characters counting transformations and Pokemon trainer like characters.

You think that there will be seven cuts from Brawls roster while retaining people like Toon Link and Lucario? I don't see it.

Nah, man. King Boo deserves better than that. He should be at least a boss or stage hazard, though I definitely think he could make a great playable char.

I don't think any character will be cut. Okay, perhaps one or two... Snake and someone else.

Ok it does look like it could be Eternal Darkness fan art but whoa what. What is the girl on the right supposed to be? Is she supposed to be a giant pan-dimensional red lobster? I'm so confused.

So if Sakurai cuts something like 7 fighters in the transition from Brawl to 3DS/Wii U

Yoshi
Captain Falcon
Ness
Jigglypuff
Ice Climbers
Mr. Game & Watch
Falco
Ganondorf
Wario
Meta Knight
Lucas
Diddy Kong
Pokémon Trainer
Ike
R.O.B.
Wolf
Snake

How in the world are 7 of those going to be cut?

The blade will get dull after one cut.

Problem with your satement is that you didn't factor what happened during development of Brawl. Sakurai didn't really managed the time and resources wisely so they burned more times than they should have, therefore SSE ended up took most of production schedule.

Now Sakurai are not interested to do SSE again due to the reasons, and they are working along with Namco-Bandai which are very experienced. I'm pretty sure that they will do fantastic job with the development schedules, etc. I meant they port everything from Brawl and started to working on the game. They even had first prototype ready by June 2012.

I could see a heavily toned down Pious Augustus as a playable character.

I'd love to see the Tome of Eternal Darkness as an item that has unpredictable, messed up effects.

I don't see anyone but Snake being cut, but I agree that adding another row to Brawl's roster for 44 characters is about what we can expect.
So, 10 newcomers. We've already got Villager, Mega Man, Wii Fit Trainer and Rosalina, plus I think Palutena, Dixie Kong and Mewtwo are a lock.
With the last three I'm personally hoping for Wonder Red, Shulk and Little Mac, though I expect Pac-Mac, Mii, Takamaru or someone over Wonder Red.

I put a roster towards the bottom of page 5.

Spear Pillar will be replaced with an Eternal Darkness stage based on the place Pious talks to the Ancients (does that place have an official name?) and the Legendary Pokémon will be replaced by the Ancients.

Chattur'gha - beams of whatever and dropping explosions all over
Ulyaoth - slows down time or teleports people.
Xel'lotath - everyone's favourite stage flipping and mirroring!

See, it makes perfect sense.
