Outside of Game Specific Directs, the description is meaningless. They'll show whatever they want there.

Isn't this the first art work for their 3DS game?

It was thought to be at one time, but they don't appear to be actually working on a 3DS title of their own. The X Zone team may well be at this point, but the Kyoto studio has only been involved as a support studio on other games so far.

Iwata specifically says in the direct it will focus on "future" wii u software and plans as opposed to their previous directs focusing on "upcoming" software in the "near future".
