New 'X' trailer [Monolithsoft] shows uncut gameplay

Ok, I went to look at the 2nd Trailer again to compare something since I don't know JP, the Mech at the end being named Inferno by translators. The same thing said in English on the bootscreen of the Mech in Intro of the 2nd Trailer.

...In this Trailer we got player 2 and 4 are using Mechs of the same name. Inferno and it isn't a red one, nor does it look like the one at the end of the 2nd Trailer.
Tester and 3 are using the same thing as the first trailer by name and appearance. (I forgot what English translation people gave to it.)

This is a pretty good example of how unreactive the monsters are. For an apparently real time system, the bad guys sure do stand in place a lot and barely shown aggression towards the player character(s).

Yeah, this is one of my main problems with this kind of combat. I can see the appeal of it and I'm well aware it has a great deal of strategy involved, but it just doesn't feel as exciting as real time or even turn based on account of its weird middle ground.

I'll wait to hear about the story. Sad to say this is no longer a day one system seller, but I'm open to seeing more. :/

You don't get a very good look at the characters in the video. Can't even really see their faces. Kinda hard to tell if they look good. Don't look like they have as much character as the Xenoblade characters.

For a game that's coming out this year, I hope they start showing more off soon.

I'm not trying to be difficult, but what little I've seen of X, and what little I've played of Monster Hunter, I feel that they are very similar: you have a team of three or four, you fight large monsters that are damage sponges, and a bunch of numbers are popping up on-screen. Am I wrong?

You're wrong because you're not taking into account what the fighting is like in both games."Fighting" is an incredibly general term when it comes to video games because there are a gazillion type of battle systems out there. And the battle systems are completely different between X/Xenoblade and MH.

And like others said, 3-4 person parties have always been part of JRPGs, and in MH there aren't numbers. Hell monsters don't even have HP bars in MH. You're not always fighting big monsters in X/Xenoblade either. You fight monsters of various sizes like many other JRPGs, or even games in general.

The trailer was a bit disappointing. The enemies seemed like damage sponges, and it didn't seem like there was much thought needed to take down the enemies other than ramming as much damage down its throat as you can.

To those who thinks that the UI is complicated, how is the UI any more complicated than recent JRPGs such as this?
Final_Fantasy_XIII-2_gameplay.jpg

I don't see anyone complaining about that UI.

The current UI is already an improvement over Xenoblade's as Aeana pointed out.

You're saying that like people laud XIII-2's UI as an example of sleek interface design. XIII and XIII-2 (and to a somewhat lesser degree, Lightning Returns) both have poor interface design, artistically. It's like they tried to get as many effects, gradients, fonts, and shapes on the screen as they could.

X's UI isn't that bad, but it does seem to be busier than it needs to be. The UI elements need to get out of the way so you feel more like you're interacting with the actual combat, and not the interface.

Probably customizable/created characters. They give off that vibe.

It's not really a real time system like Tales or similar ARPGs.

That's because you're not playing the game yourself. You can describe Xenoblade in the same way. But it's not like that.

It's amazing that this is potentially not even coming out this year, when it was announced a year ago, I was expecting it to launch sometime around April, march, or in the summer, yet almost all of the 2014 titles Nintendo's been talking about at this rate seem to be slated for the later half of the year. The segment in the the direct also wasn't all that well planned, a new trailer would've be more fun than a couple seconds of game-play, which quite honestly kinda bored me. Needless to say it looks fun, just worried that the Wii U might not even have any games this year.

So is X the only thing in the Direct that did not get a Official separate reupload?

Almost like Nintendo doesn't want people seeing the footage. =/

So hyped for this game. I really hope it hits in 2014. Xenoblade was amazing... I guess the next chance we'll get to see more is at E3 in June?

I don't know what was (or wasn't) said in the english directs, but it was confirmed 2014 in the Japanese direct, and the recent release list from Nintendo had 2014 in all territories, unless I'm remembering incorrectly. Did the English direct say 2015, or did it just not give a date?

Combat looks as shitty as Xenoblade's, and they kept the annoying constant chatter too. Too bad. :(

Combat looks like a polished version of Xenoblade's, and they kept the awesome combat chatter too. Awesome.

(Yes, I liked the chatter. I never forgot what time it was.)

Xenoblade was kind of 'meh' to watch, too, but it was a blast to play (especially if you got off the main character and into some of the people that played quite differently).

Iwata just say to stay tuned. No date given.
I still am betting on a 2014 world wide release.

eh, XIII has one of the slickest UI in an RPG. Then you open the menus and it's literally a CG clip on their status screen with no loading. All very sleek.

Lightning Returns' HUD is definitely not as good. XIII and XIII-2's blow away the UI in X though.

Huh? Why are people complaining about the footage? This is the type of combat they showed off in the first trailer, and everyone seemed to dig that. It has typical "RPG" combat. What's wrong with that?

And this is still in development -- the UI is most likely still being worked on.

Ugh the UI is literally near impossible to read on my 32" TV. Just cause it's in HD doesn't mean you can make he text microscopic. :(

Really hyped to have more footage to look at. I'm still worried about the story that seems absent so far.

They wouldn't even commit to the date. Everyone was freaking out about 3D World not getting any trailers until they released that trailer a couple of weeks before the release. Why would they blow this game out when it's still probably almost a year away?

Edit: Initially quoted the wrong guy.

I disagree, and honestly, of all the complaints about those games, I've never heard one about the interface until now. The reason being, in older Final Fantasy titles the menus used to take up 1/3rd the screen space, but now they are just hovering there. I never had a problem with the UI in those games; never thought about it and they never got in the way. On the other hand, those are fully turn-based battle systems, excluding Lightning Returns. You don't really need that much screen space. With Xenoblade, you need a little more because you are interacting with the landscape as well as fighting.

It seems like this was a poor choice of footage. Gameplay trailers aren't really great at building hype unless they're well cut or are combined with an explanation of the gameplay mechanics by the developers. It was neat to see the doll powerup in action, but they should have picked an enemy that posed more of a threat.

The DK trailer was pretty decent though. It showed off some nice varied gameplay kinda like the 2nd 3DWorld trailer did.

So smooth cant wait

I dont think its a bad idea if they give up constant updates on the game, like diff clips of areas and gameplay stuff, like every month up until E3, but if this is all we get until E3 yea it was pretty bad idea to show so little.

Well, it isnt a trailer. Also, they uploaded the direct, that contains the footage. It seemed like this was more for the fans who have speculating for a long time on how it would play.

Upon second viewing, I noticed some cool elements, like watching the other players pilot the dolls. I actually like the footage after seeing it again. The first time I was just expecting this huge mega-reveal of the game and name and that's why I think a lot of people are disappointed. But there are a lot of cool potential gameplay elements at play in the video, if you really watch all the details.

The main draw of this game I think will be the open world exploration. You'll be able to basically fly or drive around, spot monsters, land and fight, all seamlessly.

That will be pretty damn fun.

The characters and battle system so far aren't impressing me as much, but they will be adequate enough for a fun, worthwhile game.

Well at least I have a third video to add to my rotating roster of X videos, which I watch ad nauseum!

I think this game looks incredible. I really hope those player names are just Engrish placeholders, like the Huge Succeeded stuff, because I really want this to be singleplayer tbh.

Maybe its because im near-sighted and its a screenshot of the stream video but I dont see a flag, can someone make a circle or something around it?

Top right corner you can see what looks like the stripes of the US flag. This is next to the text in other shots which looks to be United States.

It's just the red and white stripes of the flag, to the upper right of the top right corner of the main hitpoint box (the one at the top of the screen). Plus there's the structure with part of "United States" visible on it in the other screen grab. So I guess, planetary exploration? Resources dwindling down maybe (that countdown timer in the previous video)?

This JRPG label is worthless!

*flips table*

Actually, The Last Remnant is exactly what should be called a JRPG in my mind (entirely due to how its combat system works). The Last Story (or X or Xenoblade), not so much. Maybe the fact people don't agree with me makes that worthless.

Gotta get in on the Last Remnant love. Amazingly fun battle system and that soundtrack is godlike. Ignore what you heard of the 360 release people. Get the PC port if your PC can handle it, much much much improved.

I played it on 360 and everything seemed interesting, but then I kinda just dropped it like a hot rock. Bought it on Steam last year and still haven't started it ;\

Any game that takes more than 20 hours suffers in my hands because of my work hours. Sucks.

On topic, Xenoblade seemed roughly the same idea as FFXII with MMO-lite combat. I guess that just doesn't bother me. Not in an RPG anyway.

ITT: People who have never played Monster Hunter OR people who have never played Xenoblade.

Gameplay in Xenoblade/X is much more akin to WoW gameplay, with cooldowns and auto attacks. The only major difference is where you are in relation to the enemy (behind, to the side, etc) effects attacks. That's how it is in Xenoblade and it seems to be the same in X.

MH is wayyyy more intense when it comes to exactly where and how you hit enemies, down to tiny body parts and limbs.

TLR discussion? Never played it on Xbox only on PC but regardless I loved it. It gets so much hate. ;(

I can understand people comparing this Xenoblade like gameplay to Monster hunter at first glance, like how I can understand someone comparing Counter Strike to TF2 at first glance. "You point your gun at stuff and it goes ded" ... lol
