New 'X' trailer [Monolithsoft] shows uncut gameplay

man, those voices during battle reminded me a lot of Xenoblade, it is my most wanted game up to now among all the announced titles!

To me, this looks like your standard action-rpg in the sense that on paper it seemingly does everything an action game does but it looks like it plays like one of the worst action games ever created.

I'd rather good turn-based than this. I've played action games before so all I'll be able to see are the massive shortcomings.

I'm very much excited for this game, but it just wish they released a freaking trailer on who the characters are and what kind of plot this game will have

To what extent was not apparent.

The battle UI and playstyle looked almost exactly the same. Back when it was announced, all I could remember was a flood of "HOLY SHIT XENOBLADE WITH MECHS" posts. I don't know how anybody could be baffled about the gameplay being the same unless they went on total media blackout until this gameplay video was released.

I havent played the previous game. This is the first gameplay clip I see of the game and Im not impressed. If its another 50 hour bloated JRPG then Im not interested.

I don't know what to say then. We knew about this game for over a year, which was plenty of time to due some research into the game from the same developer that everyone compares it to.

Maybe the new gameplay footage is the first article they paid attention to and wanted to discuss the game in the thread focused on the gameplay? Before this gameplay stuff was posted on Kotaku, all I knew about X was that it was a JRPG with mechs in it. The coverage of it wasn't particularly eye-catching or memorable before this.

If you couldnt tell its like xenobalade battle wise based off the first trailer... MORE THAN A YEAR AGO.. your as bad as the people who cant tell difference between 1080&720P

Unless you didnt play the game then maybe keep quiet then aye..?

will not happen, some here are thinking this is like Monster Hunter, lol.

I know the gameplay is supposed to be good, but man the washed out colors and ugly HUD aren't doing too much for me. It's mainly the numbers, they're so freaking large and wide. And then that clip-art-esque WOW bubble that comes up with critical hits is pretty gross. I bet if I played Xenoblade I wouldn't care as much considering how good it's supposed to be.

I was disappointed. It looked like a cheap free to play MMO with no story and depth just attacking random enemys. I hope its not the case with the final game....

Xenoblade is no different.... if you don't like "X", you won't like Xenoblade either lol. I, on the other hand, am SUPER freaking hyped for this game!

They also chose the worst possible timing to fight the big gorilla.

Just as you were in a mech and it was getting good. Wait did that mech pick up an item a couple feet away from it.

I did not understand the gameplay at all. That was kind of strange footage to show an audience not familiar with the game. I guess they were aiming directly (lol) at fans of Xenoblade.

I'm still very interested though.

I just noticed it was you, I like your avatar lol

Holy, didn't expect so much dislike and confusion, but I do agree Nintendo didn't show the best footage. And, yeah, I have to admit Xenoblade's combat wasn't super-awesome.

Still, I expect the battles are more fun than they look. The typical mobs in Xenoblade were mostly brainless, but the bosses and super enemies were strategic and fun.

Had great times fighting the Level 100+ enemies, especially considering your characters capped at 99 (and your damage/accuracy degrades if the enemy is higher Level).

I don't see what the big deal is about this game. It look like Xenoblade with mechs.
I could say the exact same thing about TItanFall except swap out the word "Xenoblade" with "Call of Duty" and there you go. If it's not your bag, that's fine, but don't go crapping on other people's excitement.

This is not action-rpg. Despite what you think you're looking at, it's pretty much Turn-based rpg with some emphasis on timing and positioning.

If it's anything like Xenoblade Chronicles, (which it totally will be) then it's not an action game. All the action you're seeing is automated for the most part. Think Final Fantasy timed inputs.

It's just showing off the combat gameplay guys (which I liked for rough footage by the way). I agree that a trailer would be nice, but I'm sure the full reveal to this game will come. X is still a long ways off from release.

Well, I pop into page 12 and it looks a lot like page 2, haha.

I still don't get the idea that the game has no story because they showed battle footage...are they expecting plot advances while fighting a roaming monkey thing? You could pick any rpg, only show uncut encounter footage, and (oddly) presume the same thing.

I'm not saying it's an impossibility that the story is significantly reduced, it just seems exceedingly unlikely given the track record of the developer. And an oddly pessimistic take away from something that was meant as a sneak peak and wasn't really framed as a trailer.

I have the feeling a lot of people in this topic are going out of their way to persuade themselves into believing X won't be great (or that Xenoblade was anything less than a game made by the gods themselves), so that gives them a reason not to get the console for just one game. A lot of the critiques seem petty, or double standards, or at the very least presumptuous.

X is still clearly in the early stages of development (MC from the clip is called "Tester" and the game still doesn't have an actual name yet) so they probably don't have anything heavily story related to show yet. I remember Xenoblade's first trailer (back when it was called "Monado") being similar.

The constant stream of battle cries and screams (especially the high-pitched girl) got old in about 30 seconds. I can't imagine spends tens of hours listening to that.

That combat looked terrible. Is that what I was missing by not playing Xenoblade? You just stand there and pour damage numbers (for a surprisingly long time) on enemies that look completely indifferent to anything you are doing. Watering a garden looks about as exciting. Please tell me there is more to it.

yup, you got it. there's certainly not anything in the realm of combo moves, real-time dodging, status effecting options, aggro, baiting...

-_-

If you don't like turn based combat you probably won't like this. That is essentially what it is except the moves have cool down periods vs the characters have to wait to take an another action.

The actual real time movement is simply to position you character because certain attacks do more damage behind, to the side or in front of enemies. Your sword doesn't actually have to make contact with enemies as long as your within the "arena area" of the initiated battles your miss rate is judged by your stats rather than actually making physical contact.

This whole reaction reminds me of SM3DW last year. People were mercilessly tearing it apart for being a bare upgrade over the original, with boring design and bland enemies. They just showed a random clip of what is basic combat against a nameless enemy.

And I also don't get why everyone was so taken aback by the combat. This is very similar to what was shown off in the first trailer, where it was obvious it was similar to Xenoblade. Everyone was saying that. So, if you got hyped for that trailer, and saw people saying (excitedly) how similar to Xenoblade it was, why would you not look into how Xenoblade played?

Yeah, that must be it.

I can't even tell if posts like this are serious anymore.
