Are you happy with Smash Bros 4's graphics?

It looks like a WiiU game. Sorta boring, but it still looks looks good? It doesn't look like its pushing any hardware.

They're adequate I suppose. I always just want to see the Earthbound worlds and remixes though, probably look rad now. I haven't followed so I don't know if they revealed this stuff yet.

Between that and the new potential Megaman remixes, should be a fantastic soundtrack. I like the way Megaman's stage looks visually.

It looks really good to me. In motion the animations look fantastic along with the added visual effects. Everything is so vibrant and so smooth.

Looks completely boring to me. I guess I'm one of the few people who enjoyed brawl's "realistic textured" spin. Seeing them revert back to a more melee-oriented style kind of hurt me.

My initial impressions weren't great, but I've since realised it's a great step up from brawl, not only in graphics but also art style

The 3DS version looks way better than the WiiU version.
riiiiiight

I feel the opposite. Brawl was boring and dull and muddy. Smash 4 is smooth, vibrant and just looks more lively.

Not yet...they've been revealing characters in accordance to the Japanese release of new games (such as Olimar for Pikmin 3 and Zelda for ALBW), though there are several characters that are randomly revealed (Marth and Lucario), so they'll probably show the boys and the levels whenever.

Makes me wish they had more muscle to work with, and push the animated CG look they seem to be going for a bit further. Aside from that I do think that it looks very bad in some pictures, good in others, and it looks great in motion.

It looks really nice, theyre simplifying the color palette to make everything more iconic and recognizable, which is a huge plus in a fighting game ... Which is expected because the Namco team is experienced in fighters unlike the Star Ocean 3 team, who made Brawl.

I can actually understand that viewpoint. Perhaps boring wasn't at all the word I was looking for. Smash 4's style is more vibrant. I guess I just wasn't looking for that kind of vibrance after brawl.
Its like anticipating a reveal for a new Battlefield game, where its fanbase expects 'gritty' visuals, only for it to be revealed as a cell-shaded shooter. The change isn't necessarily bad, just so jarringly unexpected that I throw it up.

Pretty awful example, but sums up how I felt nonetheless.

It's not appealing to me, but I'm a graphics whore. I never liked the Smash series even when Nintendo made a fucking effort to compete technologically.

The team behind SO3 is Tri-Ace. Tri-Ace didn't work on Brawl. You're thinking of Game Arts, who worked on the Grandia games.

Good, not incredibly. But it's a good deal since the game is 60 fps and 1080p.

The only thing I really dislike is the fact that Link model is very ugly. It appears that his head height is too short.

Very happy with how it looks. The animations, expressions, and lighting has been looking great and I love the style they're going for. Though, all that really, truly matter with Smash Bros. is content and fun and I know this will deliver on both. Can't wait to buy both versions.

Could careless about the tech specs on this game... Cuz whatever they are showing looks beautiful! Both the characters and stages look gorgeous. The whole things is just so pleasing to the eyes despite the on screen chaos.

Nintendo games used to ALL be bleeding edge. Just kind of a bummer that they don't keep up anymore.

This is amazingly false and nostalgia blind. Consoles of the NES/SNES era used the cheapest available parts that could be mass produced with ease. We're talking 10+ year old processors and the bare minimum amount of RAM they could get away with.

About the only thing Nintendo splurged on during SNES' development was the Sony SPC700 sound chip.

Nintendo INTENTIONALLY went as cheap as possible and instead used the fact that the system could gain "additional power" via additional processors/ram in the cartridges themselves. They knew the system would be around for years, and that these co-processors would inevitably get faster/cheaper as their system aged... but even then the vasty majority of games DIDN'T use them and those that did tended to be quite a bit more expensive and STILL way behind what top end consumer hardware could do (though admittedly, it was the time when PCs cost $2000).

Even during the PS1/N64 age, neither Nintendo or Sony went "all out" on hardware (aside from Sony pushing CD)... it wasn't until Microsoft and the OG XB that specs were really pushed in hardware, then it became a race between Microsoft and Sony while Nintendo kept playing the hardware game the way it always had previously.

I wasn't initially feeling much but over time I've been liking it. Strong use of color to make it pop, and the hit effects look majorly improved.

But there's a lot of inconsistency character to character. Marth in particular looks amazing and far beyond the other vets to me, while Fox looks pretty bad. Link has a weird face, and DK's fur is blah. Hope they tweak some more with them.

I think it looks very attractive, although they should have gone to Retro for the DK model; the Smash one looks awful compared to Tropical Freeze's rendition.

There's still time. A lot time.

DK's fur changed in TF as well, from the E3 reveal.

EDIT:
ah, double. Thought somone was in between me.

The bump in textures/model quality doesn't look that big, but the animations look so much nicer. Looking forward to this one.

I think it looks great. Most of the shots shown won't ever be that close in actual gameplay. They're running 4 player characters on screen at the same time, with tons of background detail and items and other junk on screen. A game like that will never match the graphical fidelity of a 2-player fighter anyway.

Has this been confirmed? I asked for the quote before and no one gave it to me.
I don't want another DK with a 20 page thread situation

It's the same confirmation that said DK, MK8, and Bayonetta 2 would run at 1080p. So take it as you will, probably with a grain of salt.

60fps is a given though.

That's bullshit. Don't talk about things you have no idea about. The info comes from Sakurai during press briefing back in the E3. We don't have many sources mentioning that he said that but press kit shots being 1080p as opposed to other 720p games like Mario Kart 8, Bayonetta 2 and DK pretty much tell you what you need to know.

DKTF was questionable because we had never seen a single 1080p screenshot despite the claim. However we have seen 1080p screenshots for Smash.

It's amazing how drab Brawl looks in comparison. At the time it was a looker but Sakurai made the right call bringing bright colours back to the series. It's especially refreshing considering how many games use "earthy" colour palettes.

I'll believe it when I see it. If I'm wrong, I'm wrong.

You're wrong when you claim the source is the same that faulty has claimed that "DK, MK8, and Bayonetta 2 would run at 1080p". That's simply just not true. In fact it's wrong in more ways than one. The source that claimed DK was 1080p was different from the rest. For Bayonetta 2 and Mario Kart 8 we never got any credible information about the resolution. Not that the DK source was very legit either. Just some misinformed PR person. That's not Sakurai though.

We have more reason to believe that SSB4 is in fact going to run at native 1080p so that I would like to in return here what reason is there to believe this wouldn't be the case?

Why is this even a thread or an argument? There are always going to be people who despise the graphics anyway just because it's on an "underpowered" machine.

I honestly think both versions look spectacular and anyone who thinks otherwise probably doesn't like pretty colors or are just fans of tech than with games.

Some textures could be improved but as a whole, the models and backgrounds for the game are amazing and you can only imagine how efficient things need to be for it to look that good, especially on a 3DS.

Looks fine, but I don't think it's close to as good looking as Super Mario 3D World or Mario Kart 8 seems to be, nor does it make the impact that SSBM did when it was new (which was one of the best looking games anywhere at its release)

After looking at the dolphin side by side comparisons it is disappointing. Some characters like Link got improvements, and some look downgraded. I find the aliasing bothering in still pictures, hopefully it's not noticeable in motion.

As long as Peach is better in this one I'm game. :-)
