Are you happy with Smash Bros 4's graphics?

This is a game that you really have to see in motion, just like Mario Kart 8. I can see why people aren't impressed by the stills, but this game is beautiful in motion. I love it.

I only wish there was a tiny-bit more of Brawl's style here. I love the brighter colors but I also miss the stitching on Mario's overalls.

Either way, looks great.

Smash is much more about the gameplay than the graphics as far as I'm concerned, so yeah I'm pretty happy with what I've seen. We also have to remember that most of the screenshots we've seen are much closer to the action than the actual game will be.

It's not trying to be an intense graphical powerhouse, but I think it still looks really really good, especially in motion.

And the art style fits the Smash Bros play style perfectly.

Also, I think this image belongs in this topic.

I do like the saturation levels on the Melee and 3DS shots in this image. Wish the WiiU punched colours that much.

Edit: No it's not the case of cranking up the saturation on your display.

Wow, I never noticed it before, but the brightness of the colors in SSB4 really contrast the washed-out, realistic look of Brawl.

This is actually tempting to get the Wii U version, even though I only own a 3DS.

It looks good enough.

But honestly rather underwhelmed with all the Wii U exclusives and their visuals. They look nice. But I am not seeing anything that hasn't been done before on the other platforms.

PS4 and Xbox One are a satisfactory leap. Just seen the Deep Down footage, and I was very impressed.

Why are you surprised by this ?, $400/500 consoles that are a year newer and 8-10x the power of WiiU have better looking games, it should be obvious.

WiiU is a 360 with 22MB's more eDRAM, an extra half a gig of RAM for games and a GPU about on par but with more modern features.

When you take all of that into consideration I think the WiiU exclusive games we've seen this far are incredible looking, esp considering they are V-Synced (no tearing) while running at 720p native (not sub HD) and 60fps with few drops.

I decided to make a comparison from Brawl on Dolphin to SSB4.

Wow. Brawl and SSB4 seem to be similar in that certain models look great, while others are pretty meh.

edit: The Brawl Link model here looks better than the one you posted:

Guess zooming in really hurts the quality.

Can GAF put a ban on people going "Right, you think this game is going to have bad graphics? *Posts small gif* CHECKMATE, TARD "

I think SSB4 looks lovely but let's not kid ourselves with the ultra compacted gifs that that doesn't make it look a lot better than what we'll see on our TV sets.

One thing that has been bugging me is that there seems to be some prominent clipping on the characters feet.

I don't why people are doubting Durante that these shots are 1080p.

This is the same guy who regularly does the high res modifications for some low res PC ports, If anything I respect his knowledge on the subject of "resolutions" and pixel accuracy in general. This is just based on what I read and the evidence he provides in various discussions in regards to determine if a still is using anti-aliasing, is upscaled, native, etc.

I just find it odd going so far to "question" Durante based on his expertise and knowledge he's shown being a somewhat authority figure on proper native resolutions around here, just seems baffling to me, just because Smash Bros 4, is on the Wii U, people would doubt him.

It doesn't make any sense to me and just screams unnecessary console war nonsense.

The shots in the OP are 1280x720.

I absolutely don't like the look of this game at all and would have preferred something much more stylized. 3DS version isn't satisfactory either. Just feels like all the characters I like have had their personality sapped away.

Then again, I've never liked any Smash Bros style and have completely soured on this franchise so don't mind me.

Man, I wish Nintendo would at least implement some sort of post-process anti-aliasing. It's virtually free and would completely clean up those visuals. The jaggies are severe. :\

They seem to have lots of personality to me...and what exactly do you want more stylized. Its already got all kinds of stylized effects.

Honestly, it looks like a Wii game
To you it does. But honestly, that's because you have poor eyesight. Even more honestly, it sounds like trolling.

Anyway. No, i always hate the artistic choices they make for these series. Unvironemental assets look drab and uninspired. Characters always look off.
But since they're always so consistent in this, they probably have a reason for it. It looks better than previous installments, so there is improvement.

Nintendo games are like a litmus test for determining if someone has any aesthetic sense or good taste.

Yes, it looks good.

I just realized Melee Pikachu is just a slightly bit more like the original fat R/B Pikachu as opposed to the anime one... it is the better Pikachu

I'm just happy how clean, vibrant and full of expression the Wii U version looks. Being 60FPS is an absolute necessity for this game, though.

Above all it's Smash Bros, they've always managed to look pretty good. Melee in particular looks amazing for 2001.

best in the business, no complaints here.

y'all should be more worried about the netcode, it's going to make or break the game. (this assuming the mechanics don't suck dill)

Appreciate the effort but none of that is really working for me unfortunately, I would need something much more drastic. Any ideas about the kind of style I might prefer (1990's manual art maybe?) would not be commercially viable though so it's all just a pipe dream, this look is obviously the way to go for most fans.

I think it looks good. A decent upgrade from Brawl, which is all I really wanted. I'm much more concerned about how the gameplay turns out.

Looks a little better than a PS3/360 game. Cleaner

It certainly won't look like that in game. Same when people look at the "screenshots" Sucker Punch releases for Infamous: SS. Extra AA added isn't representative of IQ. It doesn't look like it was super sampled, but their AA solutions so far have been absolutely non existent or a hit or miss.

*Comparison pic*

This image perfectly shows that we will never ever see a jump as huge as N64>GC again and that is after 13(!) years. So Iwata wasn't THAT wrong regarding the graphics during the GC era.
I guess a person not familiar with video games couldn't tell apart a high-res melee from 4.

Melee and Brawl looked amazing for their respective systems, but I think Smash 4 only looks decent. The stages seem a bit too simple and I think the character models could be improved.

I think smash 4 looks a bit meh. 3d world, Mario kart 8, Nintendo land and pikmin all have a really nice look to them. smash 4 is lacking in comparison. it doesn't have the nice lighting or shaders, looks closer to the wii smash than a next gen one.

direct capture of 3DS games always look extra punchy. the 3DS screens are of very low quality. seriously try white, black and gradient tests and it really shows how poor the screens are. to get around this Nintendo jacks up the color because the screens wash out a good 40% of the contrast.
