The Order 1886 Gameplay Footage

you were expecting more than cg looking graphics in game play?

or perhaps you expected this cover based shooter to not have cover based shooting?

No, I was expecting them to show off more, like enemy variety, weapon variety, etc. A decent gameplay reveal basically. I was hoping for something like the Watch Dogs gameplay reveal, where they showed a bunch of the interesting mechanics and systems in the game.

Graphically, the game is amazing, but from a gameplay perspective it's not impressive. Now keep in mind that the game isn't finished and they could have more cool things to show. (Look at the Mario 3D World reveal vs the final product.)

Except that's not how the Last of Us was previewed.

It was previewed with a cinematic trailer.

By that account, The Order was previewed with a cinematic trailer. That's how it was announced. The the GAMEPLAY reveal of TLoU was long, uncut, and fantastic. THIS, with The Order, was not a great gameplay reveal, and that's really disappointing to me, and makes me feel sorry for RAD.

Not impressed. I mean, graphically, it looks fantastic, but I already knew it would. The setting is interesting, so that's cool. But the gameplay just looks like another cover-based shooter. Yawn. And I kind of laughed how they were acting like QTEs were so wonderful when they are the worst form of gameplay ever.

They should add a hub world with stores and stuff you can explore and people to interact with and then when you go on missions it becomes linear like a gears of war game

I like the fact they are trying to change up QTE's but why even have them? Just get rid of them and focus on good gameplay instead.

Enhhh, I know people are really going to town on the naysayers in this thread but I really am disapointed by that footage. It' looks beautiful. BEAUTIFUL! And the story/world looks cool. But the game just looks like dozens of games I already played last generation. Very cookie-cutter. We have waist high walls, cover shootering, a two weapon limit, QTEs (which I've really been soured on this generation, unfair though that may be), and pretty standard looking shooting with average AI.

That wasn't a very good trailer. If you are going to do a cinematic trailer with the overlay music than just to a cinematics trailer. If you are going to do gameplay than include the gameplay sounds and dialog.

The game looks good but that trailer sucked.

This situation doesn't seem that atypical though. Gameplay for Quantum Break was supposed to be previewed at the VGAs. And it was, allbeit in a very abreviated and muted fashion that barely created a splash. This was more hyped though, and still managed to show very little.

Actually, scratch some of that, Quantum Break reveal still looked pretty damn cool in terms of the mechanics they implied and they showed more variety in their footage than here.

Still, I am relatively content knowing they have the visuals down.

Ah I call bullshit on you man. The game clearly features the best graphics from a technical perspective ever seen in a game before (outshining the recent contender Ryse Son of Rome).

The game is obviously similar in nature to gears (squad based 3rd person cover shooter gameplay, as your part of a squad of 4 people) and uncharted, especially the melee QTEs. We know there are destructible environments and softbody physics thoughout the world. How is all of that together not an evolution of Gears and Uncharted?

Who knows if it will be a great game. We haven't seen enough yet to make full determination on the matter. Yet, this teaser is extremely promising.

Again, I call bullshit on you.

Ryse didn't have the best graphics ever. If you said the Order has the best console graphics ever, that might be true. But you didn't define what you mean by "production values." This won't be as remotely as expensive as GTA5, Bioshock Infinite, and a lot of other stuff. And your points about Gears and Uncharted are still pretty tenuous. Gears of War was notable because of the drop-in coop, which this doesn't have, and Uncharted is HARDLY renowned for its QTEs... it's probably the least remarkable aspect of those games. If that's what The Order is borrowing from it, you might as well have said it's an evolution of God of War.

Again, the game could still be good, but just because everyone isn't going nuts over a pretty average reveal trailer doesn't mean they're trolling. I'm genuinely let down by the trailer, and after reading some previews, I'm more concerned. Even IGN, whose previews usually read like PR piped in directly from the developers/publishers, had less than great things to say about their time with it.

The criticism people have stems from the fact that several of the touted features: various monsters, soft body physics, level destruction, unique weapons; were not shown at all. So the frustration is understandable, especially after 8 months, on not one of these things being shown.

They're obviously saving the goods for E3. I expect an impressive live gameplay demo on the stage.

Can't believe these comments that The Order is PS4's Ryse... it's a third person shooter and we saw short clips of TPS action. If the gunplay involved QTE of any sort I'd be concerned but they haven't. The QTE's involved melee like plenty of other games have.

Game looks very interesting, graphics are insane.

I for one was expecting a third person shooter since the reveal a year ago, cause people firing guns gave me a clue. If this is a TLOU inspired game, fine with me.. All complaints I ser here can apply to TLOU too.

If this is a Gears inspired game, fine with me. There will be no gears on PS4 and in some ways this looks like something I will enjoy more if the variety of guns comes into play.

It's very good that we get new IPs, some of the complaints are nuts in my opinion.

"Wow it's a third person shooter, that you take cover and shoot things. Boring! "

Graphics look stunning, can't wait to see more.

has the footage been officially released yet? why do no versions have the actual game sounds?

They probably released it to journalists as a press pack with a disclaimer telling them not to do stuff like they did with the recent Infmouas trailer. Someone leaked the full thing though. Hopefully, someone will do it again, because it doesn't seem like Sony will officially release it.

Even though there's a shit ton of jumping to conclusions here, my friendly advice to developers is if you want to debut your new game to the world for the very first time, a simple, concise no frills gameplay demo does wonders. (see: TLOU)
Didn't The Last of Us have a trailer at the VGAs in 2011? The first gameplay demo wasn't until E3 the following year.

Definitely. Although I'm still annoyed by the "looks boring" or "looks like another third-person shooter". It's too early to make any judgements about the gameplay. It's just frustrating by how unremarkable of a reveal it was.

This game isn't your cup of tea, we get it. Silence now.

Friendly advice, don't do this.

I pray that devs don't take what they read on here too seriously.

Assuming you are correct and we can't come to any fair conclusions without playing the final product, do you or do you not believe the game is still at a point where they could make significant changes in response to criticism?

Where's the destruction? Where's the crazy weapons? Where's the werewolves? Where's more open areas depicted in the concept art?

Kinda terrible first showing...

The graphics looks outstanding. The shooting and enemies look generic. Why wouldn't they show us any cool weapons or enemies?

Just like Naughty Dog with Last of Us, they want to save the most special things about the game for later hyping/not spoil them at all. This was the first (proper) reveal of the game (the original announcement doesn't count, really), it just scratches the surface, as far as what the game has to offer goes, most likely.

I hope there's a pretty nice mix of those QTE segments. It looked pretty damn good. Shooting part didn't show enough to be excited about, but that was just a tiny snippet of gameplay, so way too early to get a read on it. I feel I have a pretty good idea of where they're going with the QTE, however. It can give the game an element that not many other cover based third person shooters possess, and I hope they take full advantage of that.

And, in anticipation of the "QTEs suck" crowd, QTE can be quite an effective tool at bringing a very cool and interesting dynamic to a game that may not otherwise exist in any other form. Done well, it adds to the game and makes it more fun to play and experience. It helps tell the story, it helps in getting the message across more effectively as to what the characters are capable of, and it gives the player a chance to feel awesome, like they have a real part in these scenes. It's a hell of a lot better than all the cool shit taking place only in cutscenes that you have absolutely no control over. They're going for something very cinematic, and obviously I'm not saying you can't be cinematic without QTE, but the QTE, if done right, are a bonus to the storytelling of the game. There's still much more of the shooting gameplay to be shown, but based on the debut trailer for this game, and with the artistic and cultural setting they're aiming for, it just makes a lot of sense that there would be more than meets the eye to the skill of the characters, and I don't mind seeing that be shown off in some flashy QTE segments. In fact, I welcome it as opposed to a pure shooter with no such QTE or other interesting element to spice things up a bit.

They also nailed the mood quite well. Even in that tiny space where the shootout occurred, the game has a very convincing look to it, not sure if it's the kind of motion blur they're using, but it just has a very nice look.

How can someone judge gunplay based on a guy taking 3 shots?

Or say the entire game is QTE based on a single button press during a combat sequence.

This is why gaming journalists exist in the world. If I want real, professional, thoughtful impressions I will go read about them on a gaming website by someone who gets paid to do the job. I come here for the instant, knee jerk reactions to things like this. It is entertaining to watch to be honest.

I mean the biggest discussion so far is about QTE's, when the ENTIRE TRAILER HAD A SINGLE BUTTON PRESS.

lmao.

And whats with all the complaining about the fact that its third person?

Dunno, maybe they were the 1% who did not like The Last of Us? Who knows.

The game looks amazing. To bad they were a bit thin on the gameplay.
Definitely liking what I'm seeing so far.

And whats with all the complaining about the fact that its third person?

Looks great visually, that''s pretty much all I can say. My hype fell though, hopefully It gets more interesting the more they show

Then they need to release it as soon as possible. I thought the first video in the OP was the official release. And that is a horrible reveal trailer.
