Fighting Games Weekly | Feb 17-23 | United, Divided, Anime

Sadly I'm not as hype as I could be for the new GG, it looks really fun and I'm exited to play as Ky again as he's my favorite fighting game character in general. New music new visuals that look amazing all that stuff. But damn the gameplay looks like a step back from AC and BBCP
It looks significantly slower. Like we're moving back to BBCS.

will they say tatsumaki right

nope

they didnt

hats pats puts puu ken

i really miss them saying that in sf4, that shit is hilarious in every game where they try to say it

i wonder if there are any games at all where ryu actually says tatsumaki sempukyaku

Yeah, the new cancels don't help much either. I don't like them in general even though they are in favor of the character I use. It's such a bad decision but I guess they wanted to make the game easier overall.

They're making the game more approachable with the art style and slower speed/shorter combos. It makes sense- it's not like BB is going anywhere.

I'm still hyped for it. I'm just looking forward to a new fighter with new added mechanics to mess around with, despite if they end up broken or whatever. I want to get my hands on YRC and see what I can do with it as a defensive tool (like backdash YRC or using it to confirm punishes).

Also been watching P4U2 vids (been avoiding them lately to focus on BB). While I didn't (and probably still don't) want to put in the time for it, Narukami looks so dumb that I'm going to play it. The tools he was given are so good.

Combos are short in GG in general and yeah, though it's kind of funny that the games roles are reversing now. BB started off as the easy to get into series with GG being the "OMG TOO COMPLEX" fighter. Now BB kept getting more and more complex as time went on then GG turns and becomes the easy to get into series.

GG was always easy to get into that "omg it's so hard" stigma made by it's own fans kinda poisoned it imo. Also people saying BB is easy to play well is just as bad.

I've always thought of it as Guilty Gear Arena.

I'm ok with that.

I need some recommendations. Haven't touched a GG game ever, plan to buy Xrd. I play Zangief in SF and Wolverine in Marvel. As you can see, I like heavy rushdown/pressure characters, any recommendations? Hope the character you suggest is a badass.

Half the cast.

Sol/I-no - easy *I-no's inputs were simplified in this version also lack of having to do her FRC stuff makes her a lot easier*

Bedman/Millia/Slayer - Intermediate Though bedman is more well rounder style like Ky he wants to be mostly on the offensive hard with his mix ups.

Eddie/Venom/Chipp - Advance *chipp is there because he has wet noodle defense*

Potemmkin - Grappler

The pure rush down characters though are Sol, Chipp, Millia and I-no

potemkin is really fun for a big dude

I always hated that when people tried to pick up Guilty, they tried to jump to advance stuff right away. For that game, it doesn't work too well.

Yeah, that's the wrong way to learn it. Hell that's the wrong way to learn ANYTHING. GG is really really easy to pick up if you learn it in the proper order as each thing builds upon the last.

I-No and Millia have autopilot mix ups.

I guess this week is the start of three majors in a month's span. I am honestly not hype for East Coast play anymore since the White Ranger left. But just like Philly teams, I'll root for them even though they'll get their asses kicked.

An anime... VF? If that actually happened I would end up quitting fighting games after that because I would never find anything to be better. (Insert DoA joke here, but that game is neither good enough... nor anime enough.)

they're retooling it for more loli

Juunen hayaindayo desu~
Lolis can SPoD too~

No really Miyako you're 12 you really are 10 years too early come on
That's money I could be spending on FB, not yet another SRS Tetris game. :/
Good decision. Pure Guideline rules can get bent.

Actually Sega has 4 fighters this year, right? P4U.

All anime, all the time.

Would love to see Sega get serious about going for a share of those NESiCa coins though.
Why would Sega ever put anything on Nesica when they have their own network (Aime/all.net/etc.)? Hell, if a P4U3 happens I wouldn't be surprised if it ended up moving over to all.net. Also, it wouldn't shock me that part of the terms of Sega selling GG back to ArcSys would be that Sega would have platform exclusivity on future releases, as applicable (GGXrd Dreamcast 2 exclusive??? ZOM...no)... and that move is looking absolutely brilliant now, if that's the case. Sega with actual good business decisions?

Too much @_@

Winter Brawl, SCR and ???

Besides, Justin Wong will always be East Coast in our hearts. Just as Chris G.

I-No and Millia have autopilot mix ups.

Chill, I at least wanna look like a smart player with this game.

Are you good at marvel? Try Dizzy, you'll "get" her if you've played magneto at all

I hope Venom is the purple character. I'll pick him up.

No that's eddie, he's brain dead to play and just has a high execution barrier.

Can you control his minion and negative edge good? You do well and fairly auto pilot. Can't do that? He's a worthless character.

I would be interested in your thoughts regarding the proper way to learn GG. I'm going to give Xrd an honest try and need all the help I can get.

Dead!

I would also benefit from this.

The fact I-No is easier to use this time around makes me happy. Sol and Potemkin are still gonna be what I expect though so that's cool too. I'm just glad that with a small roster going in my three favorite people to use from before are all on board already. I understand why it's not gonna be as large, since they gotta make the new models and stuff, not complaining about that.

Sure, but it sorta depends on the character you are interested in.

But the standard steps to learning GG goes.

Learn where your normals hit.

Learn how to use your specials on a basic level,

Learn about momentum with Running, Super Jumps and Air dashing

Experiment with what normals cancel into other normals

Learn a super basic BnB and a super basic BnB into super

Know that in order to block ground to air attacks you must use Fauntless Defense It also negates chip damage and prevents guard gauge gain.

Fauntless Defense also cancels any delay on run recovery and makes your attacks recover a little faster.

Learn how to throw.

Learn how to instant air dash

If your character has a good one learn how to use your dust as an overhead mix up.

Learn how to build your opponents guard gauge and a few combos based on counter hits.

Learn basic applications to Cancels, such as making an unsafe move safe or combo extentsions.

Learn how to use Yellow Cancels to create mix ups and create set ups

If your character has a usable Instant Kill learn how to react to the dizzy state and instant kill as soon as possible.

If you are a chipp or faust player you need to learn how to Fauntless Defense cancel at this point, which is basically a kara cancel on moves that alter your air momentum to create mix ups.

This is based on Xrd there are a few steps missing here that are in AC. But honestly going at it in a orderly fasion like this with a new character or just being new to the game will make you a solid player in less than a few weeks

Beef reminds me that I should get on that soon. PSQuad about to see some good use now.

In other news, has anyone else ever found themselves getting better at old mainstay games after getting used to fighters? One of the biggest reasons why I never played Fox in Smash despite liking the character (both as a fighter and as an old Star Fox 64 addict) was because I felt like my fingers just weren't fast enough for that shit.

Fast forward to now and I'm messing around in the lab translating hundreds of hours of Marvel 3 Viper quirks into my Fox and he actually looks like he could become decent in my hands. Doing tiger knee motions for advancing and pivoting short hop double lasers puts a smile on my face every time. Who knew SHDLs were easier using the control stick to short hop? (Project M mind you) I've almost got waveshining down too. I just need to get more consistent with getting max distance wavedashes forward.

the best video i know of for learning the system of AC is this. it covers everything you might wanna know from FD to slashback to IB to jump install. everything included is still in +R and most of it will be in Xrd (slashbacks and FRC's are some examples of things that wont.)

Klaige a midwest player whos been doing it forever has some good tutorials on youtube under the name IADtv. his match analysis vids are actually really awesome and insightful.
