This is going to be a big hit, I can feel it

Me too. It has everything going for it, honestly. They even chose two actors to voice the two characters that will be the hardest sell, that will draw in audiences. I feel even if RR or Groot are a little hokey, general audiences will be ok with them because they are Bradly Cooper and Vin Diesel.

Great teaser/trailer! A lot of it was Comic-Con footage, but no biggie.

As this doesn't come out till August, I'd expect at least 2 more official, full trailers with 1 of them definitely being paired with CA2 in April.

Might jsut be the nerd in me, but cosmic stuff was on and poping way before 2000. It really got going with the original Marvel Captain Marvel series.

I was gonna ask what is the good pre-Annhilation Cosmic stuff worth reading? I know there is the Infinity Gauntlet trilogy and what else?

I've been collecting comics since I was little, but never really knew these comics were popular enough for a movie. I did jump on the wagon and started collecting the most recent comic series, but damn, this movie looks like a toooon of fun. Cant wait!

Looks really fun but the first half of the trailer seemed to drag too long.
.
I wanted to see how sci fi stuff but either way I'm really stoked for this

Another poster mentioned this point in another thread so I can't take credit but it's amazing how much this movie's costumes look better than the new X-men movie even though the designs for this one is in effect much cheesier and was probably harder to translate into live action form.

The new X-men costumes make all the future X-men look like the Undertaker's henchmen or something.

A lot of the Star-Lord stories from Claremont throughout the 70's hold up pretty well and are pretty awesome. Infinity Gauntlet, as you said, is a must-read. Most of the Captain Marvel stuff over the years has been great.

Thx! I hope this does well and we can see more of that.

I'd recommend Thanos Quest and Infinity Gauntlet. They give a ton of background (and frame of reference for power levels) on guys like Thanos, Drax, Nebula, Adam Warlock, Galactus, and Silver Surfer. At the time, Drax was strong enough to serve the Hulk his ass on a platter.

It's kind of hard to jump blindly into Annihilation. Nova was almost a joke character for big chunks of his career before they finally have him a decent power boost. And as I wrote above, Drax was grossly overpowered before he got nerfed into buff Riddick in this saga.

Most consistently and importantly, Quasar is the ultimate cosmic jobber.

I loved the trailer. I would watch just about anything Chris Pratt is in though.

Whatever, it is an ok trailer. Not really feeling the "fun", that word is used for every Marvel film good or bad. Avengers was a B+ type film so not expecting anything higher than that for this one, will see it depending on reviews.

So amazing we are getting cosmic Marvel movies of all things and DC still can't get its shit in order. Really hope this is a big enough success so Marvel is willing to continue using lesser known sections of its library.

I kinda get the sense (both with this AND Star Wars: Rebels) that there's kind of a Firefly influence making itself seen/felt. At least a little bit.

That said, this trailer was basically "Buff Chris Pratt and a bunch of smirking aliens."

It's not great. It's not bad. But it's just a trailer.

I know absolutely nothing about Guardians of the Galaxy. I love the tone of this trailer and how it appears to be a comic book movie that doesn't take things too seriously, but I honestly didn't find any of the jokes all that funny.

Yeah, none of the jokes really hit for me. Though the tone was such that I still have hope that the movie itself could be funny.

Are the sequels to Infinity Gauntlet worth reading as well?

I remember a lot of speculation that this was going to be an R rated bizarre pet project that would have its losses absorbed by the massive success of the rest of the Marvel movies.

I guess that's not what's going to happen. But I don't care. I want more otherworldly scifi and space movies. I really hope this film gets weird and stays far as possible away from the cool color schemes and over-designed sleekness that personify modern science fiction.
