Marvel's Black Widow solo film coming?

They would be smart to do it. Scarlett is really building up cred since Avengers 2. She was great in JGL's movie and in her. You couldn't see Scarlett in her and her emotions were still readable.

I thought she wasn't a good actress, but she just phones it in for certain roles.

You know what, I think her hair looks terrible in all of these films.

Agreed, though I thought the Iron Man 2 curls were the worst.

I like ScarJo in general, but can't say I like her much as Widow. I wanted to see the character with (1) a Russian accent, (2) a more intimidating, femme-fatale kind of presence to her.

Marvel Studios Developing Stand-Alone Black Widow Film for Scarlett Johansson

Marvel Studios is developing a film that would revolve around Black Widow, the character played by Scarlett Johansson in the “Iron Man” and “The Avengers” franchises.

Studio president Kevin Feige has long been high on the character even before her role was expanded for April’s “Captain America: The Winter Soldier.” When promoting the homevideo release for “Iron Man 2,” in 2010, he said, “We’ve already started discussions with Scarlett (Johansson) about the idea of a solo movie and have begun putting together concepts, but ‘The Avengers’ comes first.”

But Feige is once again discussing the prospects for a Black Widow film now that “The Winter Soldier” is about to be released on April 4.

“We wanted to change the dynamic of the cinematic universe with this film,” Feige told Total Film magazine in a new interview about the “Captain America” sequel. “We wanted Cap and really the entire cinematic universe to be very different at the end of ‘Winter Soldier’ than it is at the beginning.”

According to Chris Evans, who plays Captain America, Black Widow’s storyline in “The Winter Soldier” revolves around “her coming to terms with her history, that she’s been a spy, and spies aren’t necessarily trustworthy,” he told Total Film.

That will be further explored in “The Avengers: Age of Ultron,” out in 2015. Film starts production in March.

“(Black) Widow’s part in that is very big,” Feige said. “We learn more about her past and learn more about where she came from and how she became in that film. The notion of exploring that even further in her own film would be great, and we have some development work with that. When we meet the Avengers at the top of ‘Age of Ultron,’ it’s a very different landscape than we left them at the end of the first film. Partially, that’s because we love the rhythm that the comicbooks have developed — each of the characters appear in their runs, occasionally they get together for a big event or crossover series, they part again, and then they come back together again.”

It’s unclear whether Marvel hopes to have a Black Widow movie become part of its third phase of films, which so far includes “Ant-Man,” “Doctor Strange” and the third installments of “The Avengers” and “Captain America.”

Phase two includes “Iron Man 3,” “Thor: The Dark World,” “Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” “Guardians of the Galaxy” and “The Avengers: Age of Ultron.”

This is the same story that the OP is about

Also, it's not really happening. Marvel's been talking about a Widow spin-off (and spin-offs for Hawkeye, Fury, SHIELD, etc.) for years. I'm sure they'll do a female-led superhero movie eventually -- probably before DC does Wonder Woman -- but Widow isn't a flashy enough character for it.

So it is, my bad.

It would be a great way to possibly reintroduce The Punisher into the MCU, IMO.

Widow by herself won't carry a movie well, but add in Frank, with a Fury cameo... We might have something.

Black Widow could totally carry her own film.

Focus on the Red Room origin, have it be restarted and have Hawkeye co-star.

If they're going to make a movie with a female lead, I want it to be Captain Marvel.

Starring, of course, Katee Sackoff.

C'Mon Marvel, everyone wants it. And Carol Danvers deserves to be in the Avengers as much as anyone.

I don't see how a BW film would get in the way of that. If anything, it will help get Carol onscreen faster.

But yeah, I really *really* hope Captain Marvel is coming soon and played by Katee.

She was so hot in Iron Man 2... then her hair got gradually worse :(

Agreed, she was perfect in IM2 and it looks like her hair is getting worse and worse with each film. Her avengers hairstyle was fine, but idk why so many people think it's better than her IM2 one.

Man, it'd be so awesome to see a major crossover flick with Black Widow and Hawkeye as the lead with Frank Castle as an antagonist/uneasy ally. Just use the versions in their current runs, Edmondson Natasha and Frank with Fraction Clint.

These are both basically perfect suggestions

I wouldn't mind seeing a Black Widow/Hawkeye film if we got cool, collected Natasha like in Edmondson's current run and Human Trainwreck Clint like in Fraction's current run.

Like, a hilariously depressing spy buddy thriller.

If not Sackoff than Yvonne Strahovski but thats a topic for another thread.

I need to be reading this hawkeye run so bad. Looks so stellar

And hells yah i'll watch scarjo's black widow all day. Make a crazy ass Bourne flick with some heavy shield backdrop and bam - there ya go.

off topic: I really REALLY hope they give Renner something decent to work with as hawkeye in the next Avengers. They trolled him soooooo hard in the first one.

Never thought she'd make for a good lead character, in comics nor a movie... Unless she's paired with someone like Hawkeye to co-lead, like someone said.
Now, you want a female-lead movie, you introduce the Kree in Guardians of the Galaxy, throw in a line about Mar-Vell being sent to earth -> Carol Danvers movie.

The problem with Avengers is you've legit grade A super heroes (Hulk, Thor & Iron man) with mad powers and then you've got B teamers like Captain America, Hawkeye & Black widow who just aren't as flashy, and it's hard to balance out that sense of contribution to the over all.

I think teaming up Black widow with CA in the winter soldier should work well, and I don't see a solo film being a bad idea but its all about the scaling in terms of the peril.
You can't have her and then say throw in Thor or Hulk for instance in a bit role because either of those character is going to be OTT compared to the threat and she then becomes relegated to second fiddle. A Black Widow/Hawkeye movie wouldn't be a bad idea, though personally Hawkeye is kind of flat.

ScarJo should just start doing porn while she still can. That acting is so dry that every ticket should come with a gatorade.

I remember nothing from her performance.

Yeah, she doesn't stand out surrounded by cartoonish characters.

This is indeed a problem.

The only time I came close to believing her was her freaking out at The Hulk.

I don't think the other characters are necessarily cartoonish. The characters are well-developed and relatively believable in the performances. But it feels like she's surrounded by people who just have more charisma and heft in their performances. Even if she's a normal agent, she should have the charisma and a sharp feeling that commands your attention. Hawkeye asides, who had nothing to do, it was disappointing.

By "cartoonish" I meant over the top/larger than life.

A movie could work, but the tone would have to match her acting abilities.

I don't see why this couldn't work. She's a secret Agent. Just have her doing secret agent stuff. (Like she DID in the Avengers before Paulson called her back to base.) No Heroes, nothing. Just her, Hawkeye, and some shit going down.

...And this pose.

Yeah. The team they used in Avengers is comically mismatched in power. A Black Widow movie with only the humans would be good, if they throw in the gods and mutants it will be a bit silly.

He was basically a villain through most of Avengers :(

A team up movie with Hawkeye and Black Widow would be great and would finally give his character some room to breath.

Plus Renner and Scarjo are friends IRL and have fantastic chemistry so that dynamic is worth exploring on film for that alone.
