I'm not really going to defend the "pushiness" of TW101 fans but I think in due part the large enthusiasm about the game, mostly stemming from this board since it's hard to find any other places invested in it, is how it combines a certain number of niches that this board loves yet failed to kick off because they were too focused on those specific niches. For one it's a Platinum developed title, for two it's Kamiya-directed which means a higher level of content and polish, for three it's a Wii U game that has a good hardcore appeal and finally it's built with a concept and new franchise that Nintendo can call it's own, which is exciting in it's own right. It was even built originally with Nintendo characters in mind before the change happened, and in ditching that they got recognizable personalities because of it.
I'm not going to claim the game is for everyone either cause it isn't, but for someone who can put in time to let it click it truly respects it's audience. The only real thing I will defend is their right to be in Smash Bros., since J-Tier put it already, the characters are really suited for it. And as an aside, short of including new mascots from eShop games there's really little modern inclusions for them to pick from the way I see it. But I've really expressed that opinion a ton of times enough.
Pretty funny how they're right beneath one another.

Pikachu is all about speed, Sonic is a semi-casual runner. Makes sense.
