Infamous Second Son has gone gold

Looks like we might get PS4s in stock by mid March here, hopefully just in time for IF. EXCITE!

Help me gaf. I'm not sure what to get out of the three.

FFX remastered - MGS V:GZ - or inFAMOUS: SS.

Only able to pick up two around that time.

If you've already played FFX then go with MGS and IF.
If you haven't then still pick MGS and IF.

I'm looking for suggestions! Any plays on superhero slogans or puns involving smoke/fire or neon/light would be great.

Infamous: Second Son |OT| CERNY Particle Accelerator

Holy sh. That's like the best OT ever.

Respect to you sur.

Wait a minute wait a minute wait a minute. So there really is no continuous time of day change? It'll just be stuck on certain times like Saints Row 3, until you do a mission or something else changes it? Most of my time in these games is spent running around doing side stuff, and watching the sky go from morning to night is so cool and has been since I played GTA III.

I'm not going to not get the game, that would be crazy, but this is still a giant bummer for me.

Yeah, that is a bit ridiculous. It is obvioulsy not a particulalry persistant world. But I suppose it wants you to think the game is taking place over a short time span I guess.

Same as all the other inFamous games.

Sometime story missions change the time a day to set the tone.

If they went with a proper day/night cycle then you'd have to wait for time to pass to do day or night exclusive missions.

For example in the recent demo they had you and Fetch light up the bay area at night.

Would you want to do nothing until the sun goes down or would you want the game to suddenly switch from day to night? The former would be a little annoying since there is no rest/time-skip system and the latter could break your immersion.

I'd be totally ok with time speeding up when I got to a mission. That wouldn't bother me at all.

Let's say I'm running around the city collecting blast shards or whatever for half an hour (theoretically, I don't even know if there are blast shards in this). And it's stuck at night time. So I'm stuck at nighttime for half an hour of real in game play time, that would get old. I would much prefer it to cycle. It'd be more visually interesting.

Yeah I always put that down to technical limitations though, aside from Festival of Blood where it made sense. I figured on a next gen system they could swing it.

I'm pretty I've seen some tech videos where they show the time of day change in real-time (in a quickened manner), so it's probably more of an artistic choice on their behalf than something they couldn't achieve. They want certain missions to happen at night and there's no way around that.

Cutscene that segues into dawn/dusk, etc. Easily accomplished, doesn't break immersion.

If those quick time of day changes happen during free roam I'd be ok with that, but I'm guessing they won't.

They could just have a card saying "LATER THAT DAY" or "THE NEXT MORNING" and I would be fine with it.

EDIT: Sorry, wrong thread.

Oh wow, so it's the same as the first two games? I thought they would change it to show their lighting deal.

I'm bummed that there isn't a day/night cycle too.

I want to traverse through Seattle and see the sun set as I do so.

Wait really? No dynamic day/night cycle, or dynamic weather?

I mean, I know it was like that in the first two titles but I wish they would've implemented it :/

GTAV did it well.

Is it me or is Sony not [edited, sorry] doing much marketing for this game? I saw a new gameplay spot a few days ago but nothing out of the ordinary (like say, Uncharted 3/The Last of Us marketing).

Is this coming in a few weeks now?

Sony is very stingy with marketing. Unless they know it is something that will potentially sell gangbusters, they won't bother too much.

What sucks is it went Gold BEFORE Titanfall, yet it comes out after.

Which basically means they are just holding up the release date for no reason.

Why not move the release date up?

One month is the regular time from gold to retailer. Titanfall is the anomaly.

Marketing is the main reason. They may also have a big day 1 patch to work on.

It just fast-forwards to a particular time when you start the mission. Isn't that how the other Infamous titles worked?

GTAV pans the camera up to the sky and shows a timelapse to the correct hour. It's pretty impressive and doesn't take you out of the experience.

Jason kind of talks about the creation of the various times of day in the Make it Rain video.

It's not like they're incapable of implementing a day/night cycle, but, as artists, I think they prefer having a lot more control over the general tone of the city during any given mission and the different light spectrum they can play around with without worrying about it changing up too drastically during the course of a given 'day' when it is outside of their planned mood.

Titanfall didn't went gold yesterday despite what they told you. They already had a retail copy on their hands and between gold master and manufacturing it takes a little time.

I love open world games that take advantage of a natural time cycle; big appeal to me and kept me away from Saints Row 4. If it is a giant bummer what is making you buy this?

What makes you avoid a game then? If a game has something that you described as a "major bummer" I would be less interested in spending my money on it.
Actually I said 'giant bummer,' not 'major bummer.' That said...

'Giant bummer' = very disappointing thing about a game that I still want to play anyway

For example in GTAV I think it sucks that each character's garage is halfway across the map from their homes (especially Trevors, WTF). It's dumb and it gets in the way of me having fun with the game, but I still play the game and loved it for the most part. I would classify that as a ''giant bummer.'

On the flip side I am not buying Titanfall because of the lack of single player or offline bots or anything that isn't online competitive MP. That's more than a ''giant bummer', it's a deal breaker.

Cool, thanks for the info. I think not having a day/night cycle hurts a game like this. Is it enough to make me not buy it? I dunno yet.
