Infamous Second Son has gone gold

much thanks.

I'd like a beanie too, if you didn't mind.

My predictions:

Polygon - 7. Low enough so they can criticize, high enough that they can avoid adding to their "shill" reputation.

Everywhere else - 6.5 - 9. This game is going to be very polarizing for a lot of reviewers. It depends on whether they view this iteration as "just another inFamous in the series," or "the first next-gen showcase for PS4." Some people, there's just no pleasing, so I expect a high range of scores, with the overall response to be generally positive.

Metacritic: ~ 85 - 87.

I can stand when reviewers say "just another game in the series" yet wet themselves at generic shooters which do nothing to evolve the genre. Games need to be taken for what they are, you can't just pick and choose what you like. Reviewers need to look at a game from all angles, by thinking of the enjoyment they got out of it and by the enjoyment fans of the series will get out of it, after all, it's most likely the latter that will be buying the game.

Yep, I agree 100%.

I do agree that it's frustrating how some games get a pass for not being a huge step up in game design from previous games in their series', while other's are scolded for it. I don't know if there are biases going on, or preconceived notions about what genres are okay with "more of the same" and what aren't, but it's frustrating for sure.

No... That's why reviews will always favour homogenous FPS games.

They are fun, they are simple to understand and recommend. Despite GTA, 3rd person action games are more niche.

What you're looking for is a game critic. Sad news: there aren't many about. BrainyGamer was good, but kinda barren nowadays.

I like to think that when I review a game I look at it from all angles, I certainly don't mark it down for being a sequel or for being a niche product. It's the same when I review children's games, I often get my kids to play and ask their opinion/view their reaction to what's happening on screen.

I've not read shit or seen shit since December about this game but why does everyone believe this game won't get 8.5-10 instead of 6-9?

Infamous 2 has an 8.3 metacritic average. I would give it a 7.5 as I found it solid but not great. I could see this one getting between 8.5 and 9.0 as it is the first real PS4 showcase (after Killzone, I guess, which is very polarizing). Either way, I doubt there is any anti-Infamous bias out there, it's just not that kind of game.

That's a good thing, but while you may not have that kind of bias, a lot of reviewers do, even though they don't openly admit it. It just depends on a critic's opinion about a series and their expectations about that particular game when they sit down to review it. Some may have biases for/against a particular series depending on personal preferences of genres, consoles, etc.

I remember back near launch, when Polygon announced that Albert Gies was going to review Killzone: Shadow Fall, and I was sitting there, stunned. Here was a man who openly hated the Killzone series, yet he was tasked to review its most important title in years? The whole situation felt ludicrous to me.

Wonder if anyone can work the beanie magic on my icon?

Me too, if you don't mind.

ElTorro, considering your godly photoshopping abilities, do you think you could do a better job of beanifying my avatar than what someone else already did? Dunno, it just doesn't look right to me. Too tight or something.

If you give it a shot then thanks a bunch dude.

Thanks to this thread and Dinjooh for putting beanies on my Mario Bros. <3

And guess I missed on the Collector's Edition, seeing as I can't find it available anywhere (online and retail). :[

Don't know if this looks better. Some background removal wizardry was necessary.

Much love to ElTorro for the awesome beanie.

At the risk of this becoming a beanie-thread, I'll try and start a little discussion.

So...Smoke or Neon?

I have to say neon as well, that may change though after I see more smoke powers.

But neon sword with the neon running is too awesome.
