Super Smash Bros. for 3DS and Wii U Thread 5: Yarning for Yoshi

Pic of the day. Little Mac's side smash attack is his straight right punch...but it can transform into an uppercut if you tilt diagonally upward, or a body hook if you tilt diagonally downward. The body hook is the most devastating of these moves and it doesn't blast the opponents away.

The trick in activating these punches is to avoid tilting the controls diagonally from the get go--instead, tilt up or down right after the smash attack starts kicking in. You can also tilt up or down while you're powering up.

I'll say, this reminds me of Marth's side B.

This is actually pretty interesting. Mac sounds like he has some good combo or mindgames potential.

They could make Wolf's stage on Sargasso Space Station and you have pirates occasionally shooting you with the turrets.

Also nice Side Smash attack.

So more of "Little Mac does combos" except reminding us of the 3DS version instead of the WiiU one *Goes to bed*

Lol I don't know why anyone would stay up for these, if they were at night for me I'd just check em in the morning.

Anyway, that's pretty cool. I know we have specials like Pit's arrows and Lucario's extremespeed, but have we had Smash attacks work like this before?

That's really neat! We've had plenty of smashes and tilts that can be aimed up or down, but none that change their properties so drastically. Little Mac is shaping up to be a very neat character.

With all of these super-specialized newcomers, I feel like the veterans are gonna be so boring to play in comparison, hahaha.

Sunday's when the clock's gonna spring forward for us US dudes...

That means pic of the day even later. :(

New information! It's interesting that the strongest damage move does not knock opponents away, so you would presumably try to immediately combo more damage after it.

...why do I keep staying up for these?

Because it's like having a small Christmas every night. Except you share the present with everyone here. And the present is usually your shattered hopes and dreams. And then Sakurai makes a troll comment to let you feel the burn, And then you realize you're losing sleep for this. And then you wallow in the disappointment.... Why do we stay up for this?

Oh right! Because it's Smash!! ^^

Directional smash attacks.

I agree.

I mean it's been 8 months of this. If you're staying up late almost every day, regardless of release dates etc, what are you doing it for? Items? ATs? Pokeballs? Stages? That one time Marth was announced sort-of randomly?

Anyway, cool update on Mac's abilities. Of course, I will likely never be good enough to pull one off, but at least I'll know what hit me.

Don't forget Lucario!

I want a Zoness stage where you're fighting on top of one of the floating tankers. It'd make for some really unique scenery with the search lights in the background, the poisoned atmosphere/clouds, random sea creatures leaping from the sea in the background and maybe some Arwings wizzing by from the foreground to the background at low altitudes.

Main reason I want it though? Dat. Music. I feel like the 3D version has the best version of the first few seconds, but it suffers from the MIDI samples used for the horns. The N64 version however has this great sense of weight to itself, but the audio quality is really low.
This song (and stage) is one of my top 5 gaming memories from childhood so a lot has stuck with me.

I'd like to see that stage too. That was actually one of the few rerrangements I felt they nailed; the instrumentation for that remake was weird.

That's a really interesting picture of the day. Little Mac essentially has 3 forward smashes? The down tilted one is noted as being different from the others.

There are characters that can tilt their forward smashes, like Kirby and Ganondorf, but apart from the actual tilt animation and (sometimes) a slight change in trajectory, there's no difference apart.

So this is really cool in how drastic it is.

ooo nice

This is actually a very exciting update. So Little Mac's side smash attack is three smash attacks in one -- different depending on whether you go straight, tilt diagonal up or tilt diagonal down. And the diagonal down does the most damage, but has the least knockback... Clearly a way to unload a ton of damage while keeping your enemy in the combo loop. Man... Little Mac is shaping up to be a very technical character. I wonder if his up smash attack and down smash attack will also have permutations (I.E. tilt diagonal left, tilt diagonal right). :-)

I'm worried that his tilt side smash will be just like his up/down smashes.

Nah, his down tilted side smash is a body blow with little knockback, his straight one is a straight punch, and his up tilted one is an uppercut in front of him.

His up smash though is an arching uppercut that swings above him. Like link's up tilt, but with a fist.

Maybe this is a unique enough thing to warrant a new thread? I'm going to sleep, so I'll let you guys decide. :P

Hmm so can you tilt the right stick (C stick) and get the same results for his side smash?

Probably more like arc it up/downward after you push it to the side

actually, maybe, does anybody else think this is thread worthy?
