Watch_Dogs downgradeaton confirmed

God, some of the screens look like first gen titles on PS360....
What the hell happened with this game? It looks like they downgraded anything. From lighting, texture quality, level of detail and completely removed AA...
I cant believe the same company offered one the most graphically impressive launch title on PS4 and now deliver this...

Also, I was just looking at Ubisoft's twitter and any posts mentioning Watch Dogs has no comments other than one saying that he can't wait for it or something. So not only did they lie about it, they're possibly trying to silence anyone who point's it out. Some of the tweets have hundred's of retweets and favorites so I find it HARD to believe that NOBODY responded to them about it on their tweets

It wouldn't matter because gamers would say they are lying.

You can't delete other peoples tweets on Twitter.

Did you see the early footage of last years 'Aliens' game compared to what was actually released on PC? It was hilarious. Also included entire levels, sequences, and AI not actually in the game. They even showed similar footage (amazing graphics) just before release, marked "Actual gameplay" on screen, for the Wii U version. I mean, seriously.

Part of me hopes that the debacle after the release of Aliens: CM doesn't happen to WD, but part of me hopes the game falls completely fat so Ubi wises up and doesn't think they can pull this anymore.
Who am I kidding that will never happen.

The game to watch now is The Division. That game is next gen and PC only, so no 360/PS3 ports holding it back.

Main differences in that gif are:

Chase camera is farther away, so the car seems less detailed (either lack of pixels or a different LOD) and the FOV is also different, so that the proportions of the car make it looks like a toy.

Different TOD (time of day) setting. Rain is not present so there aren't road reflections and fog is not there. We don't know if they chose a specific TOD for older trailer making everything was perfect while the most recent gameplay fragment with a random TOD, so less impressive.

Within the light beam of the helicopter all interaction with the other light sources is removed.

Both scenes have cubemap reflections in the car, but most recent scene show them only in the front of the car, maybe because that problematic helicopter light interaction.

And the most important thing, when player select an object to interact (to hack it), that object is painted white on the screen. In this scene, all the bridge is selected to be hacked, and the white effect crush every detail over the bridge. A good solution for that problem is to create a small panel in every end of the bridge being it the object to hack in order to move the bridge.

The rest of the gameplay show a similar quality than older trailers. Grass and shrubbery don't cast shadows but we barely see any of them before. First reveal has a lot of dynamic assets on screen, and big decal diversity. This only can be there (in a big open city) for specific zones during a mission or in a small high densitity zone packed for a trailer. When used TOD has a bit of rain, every surface had a great specular effect in older trailers, but we can't see rain in new gameplay, so we can't draw conclusions as will be the visual downgrade in rain or nighttime scenes.

On top of that, there are another problem with multiplatforms games; they don't have a loyal fanbase that defend them for whatever reason against any criticism.

I think people are too suggestible and fall into fashions where it is easier to follow the flow. There are even people who say they have low poly density characters, lol.

Can't say I'm not disappointed with the ambience, and lighting seeming to have had a massive downgrade. I'm still reasonably happy with the density of NPC from that ?French/Italian? guys GIFS though.

The orange car looks horrendous in that chase scene compared to the reveal footage.

Debating whether to cancel pre-order and wait for the reactions thread on here.....

I was going to buy this within the first few days of its release, now i'm pretty sure i'm not going to buy it at all. Its going to have to review really well and look as good or better than AC4 for me to be interested in this again.

they took a big fat patented Ubisoft French Canadian shit all over it.
Well i'm Canadian and I totally agree with this.

Or maybe they shouldn't show an amazing looking game and then show us a massively downgraded one before release....

But, like the Sonic-Cycle, that is the Ubisoft Cycle. It happens with a lot of their Games.
FC3 just one of the latest ones.

And even here on GAF people still believe the same wont happend to The Division.

EDIT: sorry, didn't know you couldn't hide/delete tweets someone replied to you with. I'm not a big twitter guy. Egg on me. Hard to believe people didn't go nuts on their tweets,

To be honest, this is a storm in a tea cup. 99.9% of gamers won't even know what AA is. They will be queuing up at the midnight launches or their mums will buy it from ASDA in their weekly shop.

Well now I have no faith in that one at all!

Killzone SF and Infamous SS show what the PS4 is capable of now, so that E3 demo is more than capable of running on Sony's beast.

Question for me would be what specs were Ubisoft using for that 'PS4' demo? You can't advertise something on a machine if the specs aren't even comparable.

I do like some of Ubi's games, but this has pissed me right off. I expect a generation leap when purchasing a new console, and this just does not show that.

Why don't we hold all this up till 2 months time when the game actually releases. People judging games on tiny ass gifs is a too common thing round here.

What a sad state of affairs for this game.

- First trailer revealed, everything about it screamed nextgen
- Gameplay demos a while later; more like current gen GTA with hack-all phone. Graphics still looked pretty good though
- Release delayed. To give game more polish?
- Rereveal. Downgradeaton?. : /

I'm not seeing how this looks horrible.

Some serious hyperbole being bandied around. Seriously, one poor gif does not a bad game make. Still reckon it will be an awesome game. Nicely timed to fill out the mid year drought too.

Not sure what to do now, i wanted the DeadSec version for my PS4, but i may have to pull my order for this & maybe wait for the WiiU version if it happens.

I have seen the posts about the people at Ubi being worried, but really what did they think was going to be the reaction, why not release two trailers/videos one for the PS3/X360 & one for X1/PS4, all that will happen now is people will cancel their pre-orders & wait to see what the gameplay videos are like on YT & regardless of how the game really looks they will have lost sales.

I really don't see why this game was delayed for four months to tweak the game & iron out issues, because how did it look before these tweaks o.0 ?

That's fair enough, but the whole trailer looked downgraded and I doubt it will be improved this late in the day.

What's even more disappointing to me than the downgraded graphics are the gameplay mechanics. It's the same old Assassin's Creed bs. Eavesdrop on people, run up to towers to unlock shit on the map etc. I'm pretty sure that the progression in this game will feel like work all over gain, just like in the AC games after 2.

Well the best thing about this is that we can all wait until a price drop. Luckily, Ubi's games seem to be the ones that drop in price the quickest, so we won't even have long to wait!

It's a joke that they implement this in almost every Ubisoft open world game now!

That's what I do, too. Cancelled my PS4 pre-order, put in a pre-order for Wolfenstein New Order and will wait to buy Watch Dogs till the price drops if reviews/GAF say it's good.

Why cant Ubi just release the original 2012 version on the PC?

Do they have some contracts with Sony and Microsoft which forbid them to release better looking versions on PC vs consoles?

Serious question.

If I'd work in Ubi PR I'd release something right about now. Something which explains the game, shows some visuals, tells us some kind of story about the things happening in WD. Show the goddamn game, not some halfassed cuts. Sell us the game, tell us why it is a good buy.

Ubi is going head first towards a wall, they can still dodge it, but they need to be really fast.

What they have to do is a trailer showing differences between old gen and current gen version. As they did with Assassin's Creed 4, showing improvements in next gen version.

Because it was just a demo-version. The assets were specifically designed for this "area" and for this trailer.

The same happened with FC3. The demos for conventions had a better graphical fidelity than the Game when it was released.

While i think it has had a downgrade it also suffers from being the first next gen title we all saw, fast forward to now and weve got lookers like kz ryse infamous the order that totally take away the shine of watchdogs. It will look good but weve went from omfg dat next gen to yeah it looks good but weve seen better now.

I didn't think the trailer looked anymore downgraded than anything else thats ever been shown at E3.
I'm not saying it will change at all. But we really don't have any material to judge how the game looks other than a couple of short cuts and compressed to fuck gifs.

After reading GameSpots 'hour with the game' article,

http://www.gamespot.com/articles/hacking-and-hentai-one-ridiculous-hour-in-the-watch-dogs-sandbox/1100-6418125/

I sorta get why they had to downgrade somewhat. There's a lot of the environment that is manipulative - unlike GTA - which surely sucks some of the processing power away from Graphic Fidelity. Each NPC has a background story and a helluva lot of the city is there to be tampered with .. so I'm reserving judgement at this stage

Clutching at straws here, but it has to be justified someway :( That car does look like it's floating above the road though

Ridiculous that they passed that off as PS4 footage...I mean people were saying that already looked downgraded compared to the original reveal.

The each NPC has a background story won't mean much in practical terms. Background as in whatever that scanner shows up. This is a UBI game, there won't be anywhere near as much stuff to do in the city as GTAV

The 'original version' was never a game. It was a tech demo with lots of pre-baked elements and never something representative of what would be released at retail.

It's Aliens Colonial Marines again.

Are you joking? GTA 5 on the PS3 looks just as good, if not better!

I absolutely refuse to get games on a new console that look that bad, especially as the graphics were a USP from the very beginning.

I'll stick to Sony's first party titles for truly current gen games!

There was a 12 minute gameplay demo showing almost comparable graphics though, with fully intact gameplay.

What has happened is a big downgrade.

You're right, buildings in the background are totally different. Or maybe it's not the same part of the city.

I think you miss quoted?

Rather I work keeping my critical and objective observation skills. The game does not reach the levels of the first reveal. but it doesn't look like an old gen game. It's technically fantastic.

I'm sorry, I really don't see anything in the footage shown recently that makes me think "Wow, that simply wasn't possible last gen!" Yeah yeah, diminishing returns, but there should still be a substantial upgrade. This doesn't look much better than Far Cry 3.

So this does not look as bad but then I see..

a bit bigger (and higher quality) version of the gif in the OP?
watch_dogs_e3_2012_vs_march_2014_by_endless_1-d795oxr.gif

And I know it is the single worse point in the video, and if this was a mistake or (as I feel) as Last gen and Current mixed in the shots, this should have been picked up. I cannot believe the level this has dropped could be even in the slightest "Accepted" by Ubi, I cannot see that.

The Cutscene and Character Models have taken a huge improvement (well at least Aiden has).

From This last year:-

To this from the reveal yesterday

But the Lighting is the Single biggest downstep, that Daytime shot just looks Baked in, There has to be a simple explanation for this, I cannot believe the PS4/X1 cannot come closer to this:-

When Second Son looks like this

IF this is the final looking game then there has been a BIG downgrade, the OP is a bit HyperB but there is some Damage Control for Ubi to do here

Ugh... why spend money on real-time something if you are going to fake it anyway?

It makes me sad and angry. I would even prefer they used CG before - then the expectation would be different because it was CG and not real-time.

Infamous looks amazing but I think the original reveal of watch dogs still looks a bit better. I guess it doesn't matter now haha what a waste
