didn't they say they worked 3 years for watch dogs when they revealed it in 2012?so its 5 years until release?

I wonder how big the team/budget is for this game.

If this makes the industry think twice about pulling this shit in the future then I'm all for it, I hope watch dogs crashes and burns.

It's a shame but ubi have some experience in moving new ip in the right direction

Rule #1: Set realistic expectations

Rule #2: Manage those expectations

I'm confused, I've seen gameplay and nearly matches the initial reveal.

Am I blind or am I missing something?

While I also hope the practice stops, hoping for a game to fail for just looking poor in comparison is ridiculous.

This thread just makes me sad that the industry doesn't revolve around PCs. Can't imagine where we'd be if everything was targeted at high end PC hardware.

Because everybody has a high end gaming PC at home and regularly updates the hardware for around 1k every 9 months. And there is piracy... There are reasons why consoles are the main focus.

Those comparing WD to Infamous SS keep in mind that SS has a lot less stuff running in the background, there's basically no need to have any vehicle physics or any driver AI, also there's a complete lack of shadows during nighttime, like not a single light source casts shadows, but in WD they do. There are tradeoffs in both titles and Inf is developed exclusively for a single platform instead of 5, thought admittedly SP is like 100-150 people vs 1000-1500 people working on WD.

I think with it being cross gen that's the reason the visuals have had such a downgrade, they realized that they want sales on 360/ps3 as well so catered for the lowest end hardware.

Not only that but that original vision might've been pretty damn expensive to fully create. All that money on a new unproven ip? Especially in this day and age where AAA projects are hurting studios more than anything else?

Not everyone can afford a PC for gaming. Not everyone wants to build a PC for gaming. Not everyone wants to spend money on parts every four months or so.

Consoles are typically targeted at those people. It's fine.

Some of the reactions are ridiculous, but you would think Ubisoft was more wary about what they should show.

Apparently last gen games looked like this.

Still looks worse than last year, and nothing is solved or even gained by cherry picking the bad and good parts. It's missing the entire point. Which is odd since the first part of your post seems to follow the thread.

But to follow with the last part, there are some really ugly, last gen level things in here even in regards to open world. Last gen 360/PS3/Wii U (tech wise) BTW if there's confusion. Not everything, but it's there.

A much smaller industry.

Dead?

Unless you can find a way to make AAA games profitable to only people with high end PCs.

I understand why the industry revolves around console gaming. I just wish it didn't have to be that way.

Where in the hell did you get those numbers?

They should have delayed this until 2015 as a casual gamer even I am extremely disappointed. The graphics and living city were major selling points for me, Im out.

Oh wow Watch Dogs, I remember when I used to care about this title. I must've chucked it into the same part of my mind as Final Fantasy XIII VERSUS, Ultra Street Fighter IV, and GTA Online.

I guess it just goes to show how important art direction and lighting can be to the look of a game. Rockstar are miracle workers.

I'm not seeing a huge downgrade from last year, I struggle to see much of a difference at all. No cherry picking, most of yesterdays footage shown looks like that from what I saw, but of course being an open world sandbox game there can be some inconsistency.

No reasonable person in this thread is saying this.

I agree, there just happens to be a lot of unreasonable people.

So showing a tech demo of a game that was clearly not possible to achieve with the soul intent of creating a massive amount of hype doesn't constitute misleading the consumer?

Besides, this is Ubisoft, I think people are starting to get really pissed at them when it comes to their reveals constantly looking multitudes better than the actual release.

Its not just that its misleading, its the lengths Ubi goes to make it looks real that makes it worse.

just in case people have doubts of the authenticity they throw shots like that onto the screen and get people saying "but he had a controller so its obviously real"

They did the same thing with The Division.

this is why they get shit when the downgrade eventually rears its head.

Oh for sure, just look at Infamous SS. Everyone is most likely looking at Ubisoft, laughing at them, not the capabilities of current gen hardware.

The difference here is that Infamous SS is being developed exclusively for the PS4 while Watch Dogs is being developed for last gen and current gen platforms. Look at what Ubisoft's studios are doing with The Division. They've clearly shown that they're more than capable when developing exclusively for the new generation of consoles.

right because this failed attempt by Ubisoft is the best looking game Ps4 and Xbox one can handle......LOL

Ubisoft is known to fail at graphics and be the kings at fake gameplay vids.

Just look how awesome Infamous Second son or Metal Gear looks like! Same for THE Order 1886. THESE are next gen games. Lets hope Ubisoft gets a wake up call with the sales. Because everybody know the games CAN look better. Watchdogs Next gen looks worse then GTA5 for Xbox 360.

Game is about a hacker, that cannot apparently hack car doors and has to smash them with his elbow, however when smashing, the window does not break and produces smoke and he has a magic hand that can reach through the solid window to open the door....

Maybe he is a hacker after all? A life/reality hacker...

Maybe. There might be a twist and he's in the matrix.

people need to remember this is a cross-gen game just like AC, need to manage those expectations, let's wait for Watch Dogs 2 for a proper looking next-gen game

the gameplay looks ace though

Go into Steam and look at the Stats section. Look at how much of the user base has generic Intel graphics cards, and how much have decent AMD or Nvidia cards. Hint: almost everybody has SHIT pcs.

And why does that matter with regard to number of users?

Yes really. Most AAA games sell better on consoles. The articles you posted list Dota 2, league of legends, and other free to play games as the reason why PC gaming market is growing. Watch_Dogs is not a free to play MOBA and it would not have been successful solely on the PC platform.

How can we possibly know The Division's reveal has any relation to the presentation of the game that will release?

Im voting with my wallet. Canceled preorder an Gonna buy it when it's deeply discounted.

This kind of strategy reminds me of mcdonalds great pict of the burgher but it's not exactly it!

Well yeah, similiar situation with DICE, i bet if DICE had a word to say about the Battlefield 4 release they would have never released the game at this status. but now everyone blaims the developer and NOT EA which wanted to get the game out just to compete with CoD: Ghosts. The publisher is the real problem here and not the developer.

Did you play BF1942 at launch?

Vietnam was even worse. I don't remember the others too well.

BF4 is another level of buggy, and I'm sure there was publisher pressure to get it out in time for Christmas, but it's not that far beyond what we've come to expect from DICE.

That's not smoke. I don't think car windows do because they're designed to break in a certain way but breaking normal glass will absolutely produce dust.

Listen ubisoft, you're game is a joke. It's like a 360 game. San andreas has a better city. You need to learn how to make good graphixx

/s

Screenshots from the trailer

seeing as that italian footage was debunked as PS3

we could still somewhat see a downgrade in effects on the PS4 version

the lack of reflections and good lighting hurts it real bad

-Maybe he is hacking the animus ?

-or maybe it's one of those next-gen cars we don't have yet.

Exactly. This has been Ubi's m.o. for... well, forever. They hype with unobtainable visuals, promise it will look like that, then deliver nothing close to what they showed. Over and over and...

Totally happy renting it or waiting for a price drop. I suspect the latter will happen fairly soon after release.

Pre-order canceled yesterday.

The Steam stats matter because those are your sales, basically. If your game doesn't work on Intel HD Graphics 4000, 3000 and 2000 cards, you'e lost 10% of your potential sales. (Then add laptop Intel cards etc). Just look at the CPU stats - 46.97% (a majority) of users have 2 CPU cores. 2.
