Ubisoft should feel a bit embarrassed, on one hand they had a game many were touting to be the first real next gen game with a open world you can inter-act with and manipulate to do your bidding via hacks. Undoubtedly hundreds of people have worked on it to optimise and create content only for their labour of love to be rightfully bashed to hell and back.

Its really their own fault, why show anything until you have some sort of working code on a retail system. I dont think hype would have been any less had they announced Watch Dogs for the first time this E3.

The most shocking thing is this is how it will look on PC as well. Clearly the engine isnt up to much when you only have to look at Infamous SS to see what is possible in an open world on PS4 literally disgusting that they fed us bullshit then did a switch and bait.

This is beyond anything EA would do.

You've never owned a PC.

Yeah, I'm not on one that I own or anything. Actually think about what you type.

"Four months" is hyperbole to be certain, but it's speaking to more to the culture of having to update your PC hardware in X amount of time with X amount of money. Some simply don't want to do that.

Its not just that its misleading, its the lengths Ubi goes to make it looks real that makes it worse.

just in case people have doubts of the authenticity they throw shots like that onto the screen and get people saying "but he had a controller so its obviously real"
Well the reveal/tech demo was during E3 2012. The DS4 design wasn't even reveal by Sony. So at this time there wasn't any gamepad.

edit: ok i'm an idiot it's not a DS4. -_-
But it don't mean they wasn't using the gamepad, it could just be an heavy scripted demo were you only have to use few input.

But you are right, it's misleading to use a gamepad on tech demo.

There is a metric fuckton of good looking games exclusively for PC. Watch_Dogs is small potatoes by comparison.

right because this failed attempt by Ubisoft is the best looking game Ps4 and Xbox one can handle......LOL

Ubisoft is known to fail at graphics and be the kings at fake gameplay vids.

Just look how awesome Infamous Second son or Metal Gear looks like! Same for THE Order 1886. THESE are next gen games. Lets hope Ubisoft gets a wake up call with the sales. Because everybody know the games CAN look better. Watchdogs Next gen looks worse then GTA5 for Xbox 360.

All I'm saying is that I would love to see what these games with huge budgets would look like if they didn't have to target low end hardware. I'm not saying that to shit on consoles, I feel the same way about low end PCs.

I understand that that can't happen for financial reasons, which is why it makes me sad that the industry will always be 5 years behind where it could be.

You don't HAVE to upgrade anything, if you've built a good rig it'll last you years. If you want to crank up the settings of games then sure you can upgrade at any point but no one is forcing you to.

Yeah. It is time to start calling companies on this type of BS. I was interested in Watch_Dogs, but I'll pass on it.

I just can't stand the big corporations that lie through their teeth about everything anymore.

You're welcome sir. Gaf, how much was your hype or interest for Watch Dogs during the PS4 Feb demo and E3 2013 PS4 demo on stage and what is your current level interest for Watch Dogs?

I'm not sure if you're asking just that one guy or all of us. But ahem.. My interest before this was sky high for months. The only game where my interest was any higher is Destiny.

I wanted this game so bad. Now.. I don't even think I'll buy it until there is a steam sale for less than $15.

And originally I wanted it for my PS4. You can see how badly my hype decreased.

What I don't understand Is why the media didn't catch up to this! It's baffling that they didn't even mention it in their previews

my 2+ years old Alienware X51 with 7870 still outperforms my PS4. Not sure what you are on about.

Those comparing WD to Infamous SS keep in mind that SS has a lot less stuff running in the background, there's basically no need to have any vehicle physics or any driver AI, also there's a complete lack of shadows during nighttime, like not a single light source casts shadows, but in WD they do. There are tradeoffs in both titles and Inf is developed exclusively for a single platform instead of 5, thought admittedly SP is like 100-150 people vs 1000-1500 people working on WD.

That's a load of misinformations And halfinformations right there.

The difference here is that Infamous SS is being developed exclusively for the PS4 while Watch Dogs is being developed for last gen and current gen platforms. Look at what Ubisoft's studios are doing with The Division. They've clearly shown that they're more than capable when developing exclusively for the new generation of consoles.

Its always the next thing with the publishers. Isn't it?

This is not true though. The fact is it is a massive city with lost of individual light soucres. I dont they could make them all dynamic. Certainly they are not doing that in WD and never were as far as I am aware.

I agree, the PS4 is simply more powerful than any other console hardware at the moment and WD does not utilise it's power due to them developing the game for 5 platforms.

Can't fault the ambition of Ubisoft, but they need to have a look at themselves after this and concentrate on this gen.

Not even sure there's any point in releasing a Wii U version. If I were there I would take the hit on the sunk costs...

And I'm not sure why you think anyone cares about how your "rig" performs.

The actual point I'm trying to make is that some PC owners may feel obligated to swap out parts if they feel they're being outpaced by graphical/performance requirements, a choice that is not always cheap. A console is a one and done sort of deal (if you're lucky).

How can we possibly know The Division's reveal has any relation to the presentation of the game that will release?

We don't, to be completely honest. I was simply pointing out that the Ubisoft studios appear to be capable of developing great looking games when exclusively targeting the current console generation rather than having to deal with the constraints of the previous gen.

I will buy this, and it will be good.

I hope the "frightened Ubi" is true, hope that will stop the bullshit trailers and presentations.

I didn't want to quote him at the time, but is any bit of what he said even remotely based on reality?

Its true that not every point or texture light casts shadows. But when you have a city with millions of them, its understandable. They made choices in which do and don't.

Meanwhile the game looks pretty slick with a lot of dynamic lighting going on, and a bit less shadowing.

Rest is pretty much bunk.

watchdogs never had reflective surfaces either. street lights reflect, car headlights didn't at the reveal, but do now. but the vehciles and people themsevles don't reflect in wet surfaces...unlike infamous where EVERYTHING reflects.

Yeah. Visuals styles are pretty different, with Infamous definitely looking more stylised. I think it lends itself much more to eye candy though.

Pastel day colors and worse lighting looks great? Vintage Deadly Cyclone.

What? I have a thing for pastels? Good thing Easter is coming.

But seriously, that gif looks way better than the car one. I don't know what to think. The lighting in that gif could use work, yeah, but nothing there looks absolutely horrifying like this thread seems to indicate.

people need to remember this is a cross-gen game just like AC, need to manage those expectations, let's wait for Watch Dogs 2 for a proper looking next-gen game

the gameplay looks ace though

Cross gen that has it's lead platform as PC, unless Ubisoft was bullshitting us there. Its one thing if a game has to be developed with last gen first, but that isn't the case. Some things like particle effects, reflective surfaces, PhysX, and animation I can understand as they aren't quite as simple to...carry over for lack of the proper term. But lighting, shadows...those are at least easier to scale down. This is also ignoring things like breakable glass that have been achieved last gen.

So this cross gen excuse has it's limits.

But I'm hoping that its at least a fun game. I'm wondering if a lot of the concessions actually have to do with making sure the game runs well with the multiplayer aspects running.

Right, but we don't know that, because the only current-gen only title they have announced, The Division, could be complete bullshit.

I think this 'cross-gen' thing is kind of misleading. When three of the five versions should be high end, and you have a huge team size, you should be able to deliver beyond this quality. I don't think anyone is expecting it to look as good as InFamous, we all know exclusives historically outperform multiplatform releases (but even when saying that, GTA5 on PS3 was better looking than any previous generation open world exclusive).

Moreover, again, I don't think people are bitter about it's graphical presentation. Very few people complained about Black Flag on PS4 for example, because the game wasn't misrepresented. The game looks about on par with GTA5, and that being 1080p and solid 30fps would be perfectly fine, if that's the product people were expecting.

I am asking the entire GAF community :)
