Super Smash Bros. for 3DS and Wii U Thread 5: Yarning for Yoshi

Pic of the day. This chubby guy is also Little Mac. Burn that fat!

lol

These random little Mac updates have been pretty good. heh.

Love that background for the Wii U Trophy, makes me feel comfy.

Epic Yarn-inspired?

Agreed. I said almost the same thing to myself. lol

Nice background.

I remember being able to change them.

Also, you guys made me want Captain Rainbow in this game. A stage would look glorious.

I wonder what their work process for trophies is. For Melee we heard they did a lot of it at the end but I think it is safe to say we are not at the final stretch just yet for this game. Maybe they are used as a cool down. After working hard on a stage or character take it easy by making a few trophies.

What obscure game did Brawl make notable?

Though suddenly I am thinking of ROB's existence since people are still confused about his existence.

If we do get Captain Rainbow, what would his moveset be?

I have been hoping they'll further differentiate Falcon and Ganon. Why was Ganon a Falcon clone in the first place? Cloning Samus would have made more sense, as far as projectiles go. Also give him a sword, you could even work from Samus's arm cannon A attacks.

Melee had a large collection of original models only used for trophies, while Brawl mostly had imported models from other games or from Brawl itself. I guess it's mostly a matter of assigning staff just for these extra trophy-only models and whether that's considered worthy. So far, the two trophies shown for the new Smash have been recycled ones.

The entire point of cloning C.Falcon was reusing his animations. Samus doesn't have hand animations for one of her hands due to the hand cannon. The screw attack and bombs would look even more out of place for Ganondorf than anything in C.Falcon's arsenal too.

All I really care about is a new MK trailer and a newcomer.

Well I assume we can expect a Mario Kart Direct to at least explain the online features they teased us with. MKTV we got a brief explanation of but they are claiming MK8 will have lots of features to take advantage of online and yet all they've shown recently are tracks and characters.

I've heard this misrepresentation of my idea before. You realize Sakurai can copy the B and B> moves from Samus and copy the Bv and B^ moves from Falcon right? It really wouldn't be anywhere near as hard to copy from two characters as it is to design a completely new character. Why did that idea of restriction even occur to you? Where does this mentality of limits come from? Do you think Project Sora is full of people with no imagination? Ganondorf holding a sword might require some animations from Link, some from Marth, and some could indeed come from Samus, from the forward smash for instance. These programmers aren't restricted in the way you suggest.

What are Ganondorf's attacks in the Zelda games? In Ocarina of Time he has a charged homing projectile, an electricity-based projectile, and a kick much like Wizard's Foot. In Wind Waker he has a back-hand slap and sword attacks. In Twilight Princess he uses a sword. In Skyward Sword, his predecessor uses a sword. In older games, Ganon uses a trident. Is Captain Falcon a good representation of his moveset? Clearly not.

So uh how much more powerful do you guys think Jigglypuff will get? Could you imagine if Sakurai took the Marth-shield breaker approach with her sing? Who knows how good it will actually be in the final product but imagine Jigglypuff's sing 3 or 4 times as big that guarantees the User sleeps at least as long as the attacks animation. Or better yet the sing is abled to be canceled out of.

Roll out was a blessing in Melee but she was still quite good in 64. Brawl just effed her up big time. What the devil was with the leech seed like flower on rest?

Agreed. They made a huge mistake with Jigglypuff Nerf. I really hope that they would give her rest back if it's possible.

He's a yoyo user

Maybe make his B moves more of Nintendo references

From what I see in few trailers, he only use yoyo for a swipe attack and weird dash attack to knock out the enemies. If Sakurai managed to make him playable character with interesting moveset then I'm definitely up for it.

Japanese Only refrences in Smash again?

My legit response: this is an awesome reference and hope to see more unkown Japanese characters as playable as well! :D

Interesting, Jigglypuff is my favorite Pokemon yet I never realized this.
I suspect it might have been done to differentiate between him and Kirby. Always preferred Kirby's color in Smash.

Ken Sugimori's art never followed the sprites color:

Also I always thought his blue color was Smash's take on his shiny form:

Yeah ... it is weird how Smash's oficial Jiggly has a weird eye color ... theoricaly the last one should be the neutral since it's eye color is BLUE and the "blue color" should be the shiny since it's eyes are green

By a pure eye color perspective they are all closer to the shiny's eyes

That would be nice if Sakurai put Western Only reference in Smash for once. ;)

I hated Star Tropics (I have both games from way back) but a Mike Jones would be an awesome assist trophy. Doubt he'll get mentioned since Sakurai probably has to have played the games. He also didn't even get a sticker.

I wonder if Takamaru is in. I asked him not to forget him this time and explained that I played the game and was impressed with his abilities. I think he could tell I was from the west from my profile pic on twitter too.

He did mention the fact that Link Samus and Pit were born in 1986. And people in japan seem to think that links up to Takamaru as well since he was born in that year too. They bring up that quote A LOT in regards to him from what I've read.

Go blame Japan's blue <-> green shading and confusion. At some point they even share the same word!

That depends on the animation style of the game, different skeletons of the characters and such. Smash wasn't really made for that kind of animation swap between multiple characters.

You asked why Ganondorf was made a Falcon clone in the first place, and the answer was in the official site for Melee. They had similar builds, and so could reuse animations. Reusing Samus' animations would have the problem I mentioned above regarding her lack of skeleton for one of her hands, and also even her face now that I think about it.

Now, you might question why he wasn't differentiated afterwards in Brawl, and they kept him with the same mold as in his debut, in spite of giving him unique animations, but in Melee, the main reason Ganondorf made it to the game was because they could reuse Captain Falcon's animation assets.

Little Mac is basically the Western rep. He isn't nearly as popular in Japan.

In fact the the Wii U 30th anniversary VC promotion we got F-Zero and Punch-Out while Japan got Fire Emblem and Earthbound.

I'm sorry, but this is the first thing that came to mind:

I don't remember how I felt about Star Tropics, but I know that I did played long time ago. I just would like to see Sakurai shoved a lot of franchises references in the smash as possible as he can. That's all I'm asking for. I can't really think of other western only game that were created by Nintendo other than Star Tropics.

I really hope that Takamaru is getting in the game this time, but I think he still have a chance since Sakurai expressed his feeling that he need to get in more games before he considered to add him to Smash. Takamaru already got in three different games after Brawl, so he might have a chance. Especially the fact that Sakurai is more likely to look into Captain Rainbow and noticed that Takamaru is there in the game.

Well, considering that R.O.B. was the Trojan horse that Nintendo used to get in the living rooms of America in the late 80's, it's probably not well known to many gamers unless they have an interest in the history of video games.

Fire Emblem games only started being localized on west because of Marth and Roy's fanbase on Smash Bros Meele

So .. in the west Fire Emblem was pretty much obscure ... and then Fire Emblem Awakening selling like hotcakes

Yo peeps, let's level for a sec, Rainbow is not playable character material. Assist trophy is def. a given, though. That is all. Booyah.

Despite not being a popular character, dude is so original and out there that I can't not think Sakurai hasn't at least considered him for playablity in Smash, sales of his game be darned.
