GiantBomb - TitanFall framerate in mech combat is not fixed in Xbox One retail code

Should have kept it at 720p.

I bet respawn had pressure on them to up the resolution late in development after resolution-gate and CBOAT and this is the price they pay.

The BOAT is the GOAT.

I really wish this was coming out this week on the 360. Can't figure out what to get as my second game on Gamefly. :(

It it's experiencing issues on the XBox One, what the hell does the 360 version look like?

All of the sources we've heard from say it looks good. That's kinda nebulous though.

But the one thing the 360 version has going for it is that it's on a console that's been refined over a long period of time. Devs know how to use the 360 to its full potential, and they also know its limits. The X1 is so new, it's not surprising if Respawn had difficulty developing for it. I'm sure they'll push out patches over time that will help refine that experience.

Good on GiantBomb. There's no rush to be part of the review thread hype for an online only game that can't be properly reviewed until real world servers are live.

I'm getting the feeling that this first entry in Titanfall was made primarily with 360 in mind and that the sequel will be conceived better for Xbox One/Ps4.

Time to lower the res to 720p instead.

This. To be honest though, people are giving it way too hard a time for the graphics in general. Yeah the textures may not be the greatest, and FPS drops suck, but you'd be hard pressed to find a game with more going on in such tight spaces. With so much going on, frame rate is key, so if 720p is what it takes to make that happen then I would say it's worth it.

Then again, my comp ran the beta on max at 1080p/60 without issue, so my main gripes about the frame rate would go to the Xbox One and it's underpowered hardware.

I'm gonna guess single digits is an exaggeration.

Not if it's what I experienced in the beta. Is was single digit hitching for about 2-3 seconds. Maybe mechs were running around outside while I was entering a room of Grunts or something. I still don't think it's much of an issue, though, and with the incoming possible res bump, I'm guessing other optimizations may happen.

Well Jeff does say that if the game launches well then it'll probably get a 4 out of 5 even with the frame rate issues. I'm much more interested in the reaction from GAF in general when it launches. I expect to see many GIFs.

That does not excuse it from not running smoothly and without tearing. It even makes devs look worse.

The possible resolution upgrade wouldn't be a performance improvement, though, only a different trade-off between resolution and AA, so it remains to be seen how much potential the game still has. In any case, I'd love it if they manage to eliminate the tearing.

Oh, don't get me wrong, I'm not excusing it for this performance at this resolution and with this level of detail. I'm just saying I can see why this isn't exactly "THE" Xbox One game it should've been.

This sounds like bullshit. They have an entire mode for the Titans and those seem to be the source of the problems.
Whoa whoa. I'm only trying to err on the side of caution, giving Respawn the benefit of the doubt. According to GB's story, there are a few technical issues, but they don't appear to over ride everything else that's good about the game. I'm just going by my gut that maybe this isn't as big a deal as people may think. Maybe.

Yeah, Jeff essentially reviewed it without officially giving it a score. Titanfall will get a 4/5 from him unless it has significant server problems, in which case he'll give it a lesser score.

If it's a big deal to you, there are ways you can evade it.

Play where it's uncompromised.

If you give money to them for a console version you are saying "yes I am okay with this, continue please". You have only yourself to blame if it continues and you bought it on consoles.

Another story blown out of proportion IMHOP.

I played the Beta on my PC and X1 and I had 1 scene that was clearly a Bug in the code as I ejected from my titan the framerate dropped to single and then lasted for about 5-6 seconds and then went back again.

This happened only ONCE during my about 9 hours on the beta playing so I think a little hyperbole is in play here me thinks!

Isn't this game supposed to be getting a rather large patch on day one? Any indication as to what for? Could it be for better performance?

I don't understand the (faux?) outrage in this thread. We've played the beta, we knew how the game performed, framedrops included. Why are people surprised now ?

the word of some reviewers who do this for their job, one of whom I trust very much, and plenty of other people who were in the beta, or junior neogaf member r_deckard

hmmmmmmm

who should i listen to

or i could just wait like 12 hours and let everyone find out for themselves

"No, no, don't worry guys that was a beta, we'll be fixing that right up don't worry go ahead and preorder."

I don't disagree with that. I'm not even getting this game. It's got nothing to do with the reviews, however.

Agreed. Probably many of the people complaining aren't getting the game. I didn't notice much of a framerate drop in the beta. Certainly not single digits. It played smooth for me and am happy

You have a huge exclusive release at the start of a new gen. Hyperbole will happen.

I'll make a ]new buzz acronym: SDFR - Single Digit Frame Rate

"Experience Titanfall in 792p SDFR!"

Single digit frame rate does not fall into the "polish" category. "Polish" is just minor touch ups that aren't critical for the final experience / judgement of a game. SDFR is detrimental to gameplay as well as visual presentation.

No game in any genre should have SDFR.

I learned Titanfall has colossal dino alien things though. That's cool. Giants are always a plus in my book.

"thats just beta"

"beta is beta"

"beta is not release"

"they will fix it for release"

I could go on about the standard "it's beta" excuses

So only buy absolutely perfect games?

I mean, definitely seems like PC version is gonna be the best, obviously, but if somebody has got a console and maybe some friends to play with, I don't think this would be worth boycotting over.

LOL - this is how many people will be leveling up their pilots early on - just camp a "bot spot" and watch the XP pile up.
Its not gonna be a very good way of levelling up. Its not like they just keep spawning and spawning over and over.

It is pointless to review an online-only game this close to launch. No one would dream of reviewing an MMO this close to launch. Why would anyone think this is different?

No review of an online-only game can be trusted until at least 1-2 weeks after launch. Good on the outlets (like GB) who are more circumspect.
