Super Smash Bros. for 3DS and Wii U Thread 5: Yarning for Yoshi

They're a generic stadium of what the pokemon leagues usually look like, atleast portrayed in the anime, only difference is its raised above ground but thats for the sake of smash gameplay
And that's the problem; it's more based on the anime than the actual games.

That's just something that really pisses me off; when Pokémon related things are taken from the anime when they should be taken from the games. Video Games Live pissed me off so much for that reason. Why they hell do they play music from the Pokémon anime instead of from the games?! Ugh. Anyway, lol, I feel that Super Smash Bros. should be the same way. Why take anything from the anime when you have the games?! You don't see them taking stuff from Kirby: Right Back at Ya! or Sonic X or anything like that, do you? No! Why do it for Pokémon?!

3DS stages:

Battlefield
Arena Ferox
Tortimer Island
Boxing Ring
SM3DL scrolling (?)
Find Mii II
Rainbow Road
Lumiose City
Spirit Tracks Train
Nintendogs
Kid Icarus Uprising
Underground stage (?)

Looking rather good so far.

How many stages per version are we guessing?

90 stages, 70 ATs, 55 playable characters, 300 trophies, 400 stickers.

Anything less in unacceptable.

Hopefully 20 at least.

Smash Brothers used to follow the anime instead of the games. It's why we have stages like Pokemon Stadium.

Hence why I've always supported Meowth getting in Smash. That's more unlikely than ever now.

It made some sense to take stuff from the anime originally, since it was far more rich and detailed than the 8-bit games could be at the time. And, of course, taking some inspiration from the anime for things like voices and such makes sense, too. But we're at a point where there's really no need to take anything from the anime over the games anymore... =/

and wow i just realised were at 25 stages counting both games

It'd be awesome if the mons are all groans and cries than saying their names... barring Pikachu I guess because tradition.

(And no Origins didn't "start" the trend of Pokemon not saying the names, you cunts people who didn't play post Gen 3)

On the other hand people have wondered if Dedede's & Diddy's expressions in SSB4 are at all based on their respective tv versions & Captain Falcon in Brawl had his look based off of the F-Zero anime. Smash isn't completely rid of non-game media influences.

Wow, a Lumiose City stage! Awesome. :D

Wow, we've gotten two new 3DS stage confirmations in the last three pics. Crazy! (I know Tortimer Island was technically "revealed" awhile back, but last Friday is when it was formally presented for the first time.)

And yet another cool 3DS stage! Sakurai keep making the choice easier to me.

Spear Pillar is by far the best Pokémon stage, even with the (some times) annoying hazards. The scenario and music (Dialga/Palkia's theme) is simply perfect.

Agreed.

I hate spear pillar so much but agree that the 3DS stages all seem to have much more character so far. 4 neutral looking platform stages & 8 walk offs with the series elements sewn into the form and function of the stage, like most of smash64 was. (Four of which seem like they'll be tour stages like Delfino)

So pumped

Nice pic. Until you zoom in even slightly lol (on my phone).

I'll wait till I play both versions to judge the stages. So far I feel like they're pretty even. With the Wii U stages looking better, and the 3DS stages having more interesting layouts.

It won't matter much though. Eventually you get to the point where you only pick your favorites.

In terms of creative appeal Spear Pillar was great, but it was not really fun to fight on at all, I don't mind stage hazards but it had way too much going on.

This stage is definitely a clear cut case of "Need to see more".

I like the setting & always love seeing more stages. But not a lot we can tell about layout & gameplay from this shot at all.

Pokemon Stage look fantastic. I'm surprised that they didn't reveal pokemon stage tomorrow on release date unless they are planning to announce veteran tomorrow.

That's the one. Any unlockable playable characters in the game and you win, if there are none, I not only win, but I got to lord it over the rest of you. I will add a proviso, if it's ok with you, that on the very slim chance there are DLC characters for this game they are ignored, as by their very nature they have to be 'locked', if that's cool with you.

So, essentially, I'm betting the entire on disc playable roster will be available the moment you turn on the game.

I feel that perhaps alternate costumes like Male WFT or quick and dirty clones could be my undoing

Sure, I planned to not counting on DLC characters.

The Lumiose stage looks great. Always nice to see a Poke on stage that isn't based on the anime.

Pic of the day tomorrow: Here is Garchomp, he is a stage hazard when you are on top of Prism Tower. Shit!

Really? And 25 characters too. We are getting close. Brawl had 35 characters, I don't think this one will go much more than that. And the last 5 unlockables characters will remain secret for a couple weeks after the release (like they did with Brawl). I'm starting to think June could be the earliest month possible for release.

Guys, this update obviously confirms the Stork leak:

Hey guys, I actually know someone over at japan, (trust me on this one) and he's friends with someone who is working on the game. more specifically, they got a new-to-the-industry musician to do re-makes of songs. that being said, most of the stuff he knows about are music that he's hired to re-make, but at the same time he did hear (and see) a few things. apparently he has also played with Mr. Sakuri during one or two lunch breaks, so he knows a little bit about the newcomers, as well as a couple stages. here's what he knows at this point.
-There is going to be another mario stage, but right now it's in the planning stage. it's either going to be a Bowser's castle stage, or it's going to be a Bomb-omb Battlefield stage. my friend's friend attended the meeting of the stage to discuss whether to create a new BGM for the stage or rip music from Super Mario Galaxy.
-A new Yoshi stage, based off Yoshi's New Island. it will appear on the 3DS.
-Kamek is an assist trophy, he flies across the top with magic that will randomly either grow or shrink all players.
-The Stork will appear as playable, with inspiration taken from the babies in Yoshi's Island DS
-Mona was added as a playable character. rumor that she was added just so Sakuri could see how many costumes he could fit onto one character without eating up too much development time.
-There is also a new DK stage, which is frozen DK island from Donkey Kong Country Returns. a stage for DKC is also present in the 3DS version, which can be seen in the first trailer.
-Cranky Kong is an assist trophy that serves a purpose similar to Mr. Resetti.
-Dixie Kong is supposedly in alpha stages if office chat is correct, King K. Rool is supposedly also planned, and work will begin on him shortly.
-Pokemon has a new stage, Lumoise city. My friend was asked to compose any pokemon music he would like, so he's making "The Sea of Time" from Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Explorers of Time fit the setting.
-All Pokemon veterans return. Pichu is in the background of the stage as a cameo.
-Kirby's Epic Yarn stage exists, it's combined with the Yarn Yoshi stage. it's a 50/50 chance whether the background elements resemble the yarn/fabric segments of Yarn Yoshi or Kirby's Epic Yarn.
-no info on any new kirby character, except Meta Knight has been balanced more properly
-Pyrosphere apparently has an amazing remix of Ridley's theme.
-Ridley was managed to be resized. apparently when someone came to sakuri with ridley's first model, which was based off other M, he flipped out and demanded a model based off Super Metroid's Ridley. according to my friend it was the talk of the office for a while.
-Sector Z from the first smash comes back in HD. the cast of star fox should stay the same.
-Saturn Valley is a new Mother stage.
-the Punch-Out!! stage is indeed a Punch-out stage, currently labled "Smash Circuit". It has mostly Punch-Out songs, with one Kirby track to accommodate the many wrestling rings in the Kirby games, the track is a remix of "Masked Dedede".
-Little Mac is a newcomer, and is mostly complete for the most part.
-Kid Icarus has a new character, Palutena, who was supposedly one of the first newcomers "finished".
also, he's just a music guy, so he doesn't know any of the announcment dates, sorry.

If you are looking at exclusive stages, so it might be low counts comparing to Brawl.

Smash 3DS - 24 characters and 12 stages
Smash Wii U - 24 characters and 12 stages

I think we are on good pace for informations so far, and I'm pretty sure that we will get more stages reveals in the future.

Its crazy to think we'll have more confirmed characters then Brawl's whole roster before the game is released most likely

Well, we will see about whole roster, but I'm pretty sure that it will have bigger starter roster than Melee's full roster and Brawl's starter roster if we got Pokemon Trainer tomorrow. Since Pokemon Trainer's Pokemons would be counted as 3 characters which would have bump from 24 to 27.
