I've never considered Mewtwo a "newcomer", since he's been in Smash before. He's more of a very old veteran if you ask me.
You know who I want to see in the game, but has no chance in hell? Pious Augustus from Eternal Darkness. I think he would be a really interesting character to play as.

It's just a whim, but there are a few reasons I feel that way. For one, Brawl only had 21 Melee veterans to worry about, so there was more time to spend on newcomers; this time around, there are nearly 40 characters that need to be recreated from the last game (there might be one or two cuts, but the likely addition of Mewtwo evens that out). Also, time constraints and balancing concerns will likely keep the roster in check. Even with just 10-12 newcomers, you're looking at a ~50 character roster, which is pretty damn big for a fighting game.

Okay, makes sense (especially the increase in veterans to recreate) but on this page, people are forgetting retro picks and pit-like retro picks as well as WTF picks and it is seriously Irking me

50 might seem much, but it could happen if we're lucky. My minimal expectation is 45 characters, the pattern of each Smash installment have been at least 10 more character slots on the roster. Melee had 25, Brawl had 35.

I feel Mii is a WTF type character, second retro, I don't know, I think the DKC guys (especially Krool), Super Metroid Ridley or even Palutena could count as retro.
Plus Little Mac is already there for retro purposes. As for Shulk, I don't have much hope but I couldn't think of anyone else.
I say to you and other new peeps welcome to GAF and more importantly, Smash GAF.

Little Mac definifely doesn't count w/ Punchout! Wii.. K. Rool is the only one here that could potentially count as a Retro pick since the others have all been in recent games.
Also; the Mii is far too popular and expected to be a WTF pick.

Pic of the day. Zelda's Din's Fire is now stronger in its core. The farther it's projected, the bigger and more powerful it will be, but you need to hit foes with the core if you want to make them fall.

It depends, Brawl had 15 newcomers. If that pattern were to repeat we'll see a few character cuts to make room for newcomers. No offense to the fans, but if there's going to be cuts i hope it's Snake and/or Wolf.

I really don't think the character selection process is that predictable and formulaic.
Regarding retro characters, Sakurai included the Ice Climbers because he wanted a classic character to represent the NES. He didn't arbitrarily include them on a whim to fulfill some retro requirement. Pit was a heavily requested and speculated character as far back as 2001, and even Sakurai was "well aware that Pit was a popular character in both America and Japan." Pit was included because he was wanted, not because he was old and forgotten. There are only a couple of retro characters left who would make even a tiny bit of sense in Smash Bros. (like Takamaru), but none of them are nearly as popular as Pit was prior to Brawl.
Sakurai talked about Wii Fit Trainer in Famitsu using the same language he described Mr. Game & Watch and R.O.B. with, so if we're getting a "WTF" character, it's her. I'm sure of that. I'll even do an avatar bet. Consider the historical context of Mr. Game & Watch and R.O.B.; they both represent major points in Nintendo's gaming history. Mr. Game & Watch and R.O.B. were surprising, but they were also incredibly sound and deserving choices in their own right. There is not an infinite pool of characters fitting those criteria that Sakurai can just pick form. People have been poring over Nintendo's entire catalog since last E3, and there just aren't any characters left who are simultaneously surprising and sensible.
I think it makes more sense to view the IPs introduced in Smash Bros. not as "retro" or "WTF," but as "old" and "new."

of course, it's always possible the source was partially misinformed so certainly Mii and Pac-Man should not be considered sure things yet

Granted, I'm probably wrong, but I still enjoy trying to make sense out of the senseless.
Definitely Mewtwo. All three are deserving, but I don't think Mewtwo should have been cut in the first place. It's the second or third most popular/iconic character from Nintendo's second biggest series, and it's had two feature films all to itself.
